TODAY’S VERSE
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?”
Luke 6:46 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a penetrating question. It is so easy to take on a role today and not have to really back it up. We can become a fan or spectator in almost anything today. With merchandizing, television and internet we can learn all about any topic we want. We can talk all about our favorite sport, even have a “fantasy team” and have never played a game. We can be a NASCAR fan and not have a drivers license. We can talk all about “curb appeal” and have the worst house on the block. It is easy today to be an “expert” and have no practical experience at all. Jesus knew what that was like. He had many followers and many of them did not really know what His real message was. They did not see the significance of what He taught. They thought they could “follow” Jesus, even call Him “Lord” and not do what He said. Jesus called them out on it and He does the same today. James said it well when he wrote, “Now someone may argue, ‘Some people have faith; others have good deeds.’ But I say, ‘How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”’ Jesus has called us to follow Him. Today, let’s not just call Him Lord, let’s live as if it is true.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I have called You Lord, and yet I know many times I have not lived the way You want me to. Help me, Lord. Help me live under the influence of Your Holy Spirit and do what Your word tells me to.
AMEN
