Gently Restore

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:1-2 (NIV)

There are many sins that we can fall into. Many habits, addictions, and sins that are hard to break. That is why we need each other. There is so much talk about accountability. But we need something more than a watchdog. We need someone who knows our struggles and loves us, even when we fall. Someone who is there for you. There is no judgment for they understand about “slips” and are there to lift you up when you fall. Their goal is to restore, not scold or shun. God has called us to carry each other’s burden. He has asked that we “restore” someone gently, not reprimand or ostracize them. Today, let’s follow Christ and help carry someone else’s burden.

Father, forgive me for judging others. Instead, help me gently restore those in need and bear their burdens. Help me to remember my own sins and how You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
