TODAY’S VERSE

God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
II Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s hard to make sense out of our circumstances. Bad things happen to good people. The Bible teaches that it “rains on the just and the unjust.” The good news is that God is a merciful Father and He comforts us. So even though we cannot make sense out of our tribulation, we can find a purpose in helping others going through the same thing. Our comfort can help others. We can empathize and come next to someone that is hurting and help them the way God did us. We can take the resilience that God gives us and help others acquire the same. Today, take comfort in the fact that you can comfort others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for mercy in helping me. Help me to comfort others in the same way You comfort me.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.
I Corinthians 16:13-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been on guard? Have you had times when you had to be firm in your faith, be courageous and be strong at the same time? Those are stressful times calling for desperate measures and yet Paul adds one more critical ingredient. He says in all your stress, in your hypervigilance, in your desperation, do everything in love. Love is doing it God’s way. Love is trusting God more than your own methods. Love is mixing grace with guardedness, favor with faith, mercy with courage and humility with strength. Today, be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, when things come against me, help me to be on guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. But most of all, help me do everything with love.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
James 3:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Apostle James reminds me of the Prophet Isaiah. In Isaiah 58 the Prophet rebukes Israel for coming to God with their sanctimonious fasting. But God wasn’t interested. Instead, God said,” No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.” Listen to James as he writes, “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” So today, let’s take James up on his challenge and prove that we understand God’s ways by doing the good works that God has called us to.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me live out my faith and fulfill Your desires, by doing the good works that you have for me to do this day.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
II Timothy 2:25-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt God nudge you? You know, the feeling in your stomach that something is not right. The twinge in your conscience that says, “This is wrong.” The circumstance that goes haywire and wakes you up from your spiritual stupor. The concern from a friend that gently warms you of impending danger. God uses these and more to help us repent. And in that single acknowledgement that God is right and we are so desperately wrong, He leads us to the truth. We come to our senses and are able to flee the trap that Satan had for us. How good God’s grace is. He saves us from the penalty of our sin and often the consequences of our sinning. Today, say with David, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, thank You for watching over me. Thank You for helping me see the error of my way and leading me to repentance. Today, help me live for You.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you asking God for and haven’t received yet? What have you been seeking and haven’t found yet. How long have you been knocking and no one has answered the door? Frankly, I have found today’s verse to be one of the most challenging in the Bible. Many times in my life I have come against a seemingly brick wall and have found myself asking God over and over again. I have tirelessly sought for an answer and have incessantly knocked on the very doors of heaven. Or so it seemed. In truth, I know very little about travailing with God. I don’t know what it is like to spend hours on end, prostate before Him, asking for His mercy and favor in a situation. Even still, the real truth about answered prayer is found in what Jesus said next. He said, “Everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” In the original language it meant, “Ask and keep asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking.” So today, what are you asking for? What are you seeking? Take comfort in these final words of Jesus and then pray and do not give up. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my discouragement. Help me not to give up. Thank You that you care for me and do answer prayers. I comitt myself to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Bend down, O LORD, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help.
Psalms 86:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How wonderful that we don’t have to go through this life alone. We were created for a relationship with God and He desires that we come to Him with our needs. In this chapter David asks God to answer him, protect him, save him and be merciful to him. Why? Because according to David, God is, “So good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.” David knew the heart of God and He trusted Him. Therefore he could finish this chapter by writing, “Listen closely to my prayer, O LORD; hear my urgent cry. I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me.” Today, take advantage of such a love. Come to God with your deepest needs. Cry out to Him. God is there and will hear your prayers.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you that I can come to You with my deepest needs. Answer me, protect me and be merciful to me I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
One of the hardest parts of following Christ is exercising our faith. It was hard for the disciples and they lived with Jesus! He had just finished feeding the 5,000 people and told the disciples to take the boat across the lake. There was a big storm and they were afraid. When Jesus came walking on the water toward them at 3:00 in the morning they were terrified. St. Mark writes, “Then Jesus climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in.” According to the author of Hebrews, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” This is more than optimism. Faith is the confident belief in the trustworthiness of our Lord. We have can have optimism because of our faith. But we exercise faith in God, even when things don’t seem optimistic. Today put your faith in the loving trustworthiness of our Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for my lack of faith. Help me to see through Your eyes and put my faith and confidence in Your trustworthiness.
AMEN
