TODAY’S VERSE

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
I Peter 5:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems so counterintuitive. Give your worries and cares to someone else? That is exactly why you are worrying. You don’t have anyone to give your cares to! Who do you trust, really? Who is able to take all your cares, all your concerns, everything you worry about and “Poof!” they’re gone? And yet Peter comes along and says that you can give all your worries and cares to God! More than that, Peter gives you two reasons why you can trust his advice. First, it is God he is talking about. It is nothing for Almighty God, the Master of the Universe to handle your situations. But the second reason is just as convincing. Peter insists that you can bring your cares to God because He lovingly cares for you. What a glorious gift. What a tremendous blessing. So today, come to God and give Him all your worries and cares. He really does cares for you!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, I come to You with all my cares. I bring all my worries to You. Today, I put my full trust in You, because I believe You care for me.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.
I Timothy 1:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When is love not love? When it is done with the wrong motives, wrong means, and wrong rationale. There have been all sorts of corrupt, devious and unsanctified behaviors done in the “name” of love. How many have been lured down a wrong path because of promises of love that never came to fruition? How may fights and wars have been in the name of love when really it was about power, revenge or some other motivation? Paul knew that “love” is complex and when it comes to community, we need to love with pure motives, upright behavior and for the glory of God. We need to let our “love” really be His “love.” So today, let us love one another but let’s love with a love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to love others the way You do. Fill me with Your love so I can love with a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity.
Luke 8:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus told the parable about the farmer that planted some seed. Some of the seed fell on the footpath and the birds came and ate it. This represented Satan who comes and distracts and discourages us with doubts right from the start, stealing the seed that was planted. Some seed landed on stone. It sprouted fast because of the warmth and some moisture trapped in the rocks. Everything seemed right until the roots tried to grow. They couldn’t because the rocks were in the way. The rocks represented temptations that keep us from following Jesus. Perhaps the illustration that is most prevalent for us today is found in today’s verse. This is the seed that was cast into the weeds and thorns. The weeds represent the cares, riches and pleasures of this life that come and choke out our spiritual growth. How is the seed that was planted in your heart? Is it being nourished and cared for through prayer, the scriptures and a personal relationship with Christ? Today, examine your spiritual life. Get rid of anything that is impeding your growth and let the seed grow in the deep rich soil of your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for letting doubts, distractions, temptations and cares for this world impede my spiritual growth. Today I rededicate myself to You and open my heart to receive deep spiritual growth. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Ephesians 5: 15-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, “Think before you act.” Paul knew that our human nature, left unattended, can shipwreck our life. That is why he was careful to give us instruction on our thinking. He wrote that we need to be wise, not foolish in the decisions we make. He emphasizes the fact that we need to seek God’s will for our life and make every effort to understand what He wants us to do. Paul then sums all this up instructing us to be “filled with the Holy Spirit.” Filled with the Spirit means to be under the control or total influence of the Holy Spirit. It is a Christian mindset that totally directs our life. So today ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and live every moment for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me understand Your will for my life so I can make the most of every opportunity to live for you.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus desires to be at home in your heart. It is possible to live in a house and not feel at home. Likewise, Jesus yearns to be more than a houseguest in our life. Therefore, God, in His wisdom, and with all His glorious resources, empowers us with the spiritual inner strength we need to live the kind of life that Christ would be at home at. This inner strength helps us align our attitudes, beliefs and personal life with His. The result is a richer spiritual relationship with Christ. We will feel our Spiritual roots growing deeper and deeper into His love. So today, ask the Holy Spirit to empower you in your inward being. Then you will make Christ more at home in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Christ I ask You to empower me with Your Holy Spirit so I can have the strength to make my heart the kind of place You will feel at home at. Help let my roots grow deep into your love.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.
Colossians 3:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever met a sports fanatic? Try to talk about anything else other than their favorite team and see what happens. They are consumed by their passion for the sport. But it begs the questions, “What are we passionate about? What do we meditate on?” Paul encourages us to let the richness of Christ’s message fill our heart. It reminds me of an old hymn that says, “I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love. I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true; It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.” If a person can become a fanatic about sports, science, food, music and thousands other things, how much more should the love of Christ consume us? Today let the message of Christ, in all its richness, fill your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for letting so many other things fill my life. Today fill my heart with your love. Fill my life with the richness of Your story that I might worship and honor You in all I do. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
Luke 6:41 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Way before Freud ever came up with the term “projection” Jesus was teaching on interpersonal relationships. Who has ever created a better behavioral principle than, “Do to others as you would like them to do to you?” Another principle Jesus taught us was to be responsible for our own behavior rather than worrying about what others are doing. Jesus elaborated on today’s verse saying, “How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” Today, may the Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit, help us take care of our own behavior and not judge others for theirs.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for obsessing over everyone else’s sins and not taking care of my own. Today, help me with my own behavior. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN
