TODAY’S VERSE

Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. I Timothy 1:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What would it be like to be filled with faith and love? How different would your life be? That is what happened to Paul. He had experienced God’s lavish grace and if left him overflowing with a deep faith in God and a confidence in His love. Paul writes, “Even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.” He was forgiven much and therefore he could write, “Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was!” And it was the experiencing of this grace that filled him with faith and love. Today, if you desire to be filled with faith and love that come from Jesus, meditate on how gracious, merciful and forgiving the Lord has been of you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You for being so gracious and generous toward me. Thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness. Today, as I meditate on your marvelous grace, fill me with faith and love so I might live for You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

“So think clearly and exercise self-control.- Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires.”
I Peter 1:13-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to fall prey to our own desires and lusts. I know if I am not careful, I will spend time doing things that are not in my best interest. Peter is encouraging us to live a better way. Now that we know Christ we don’t have to slip back into our old habits. We can count on God to help us with new desires. As we read the scriptures, spend time with God in prayer and keep our conscience clear, He will renew our mind. He will help us “think clearly and exercise self-control”. It is this thinking clearly, this deliberate focused attention on God and His power, His strength, His love for us, that helps us align our thinking with His. It is this deliberate focus and yielding to the indwelling Holy Spirit that helps us exercise the self-control that is crucial to living our lives the way He wants us to. Today, let’s think clearly. Let’s focus on God and His will for our life, then we will exercise our self-control in living this day for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me think clearly today. Help me exercise the self-control that You desire for me. I don’t want to slip back into my old ways. I want to live for You. Help me to this end I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.
Psalms 34:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Worship lifts the soul. It is our way of connecting with God that is personal and meaningful. Exalting the name of God is giving Him the glory that He is due. Sharing with others about God’s greatness and all that He has done for us not only blesses God but it encourages our hearts, enlarges our faith and resets our path. So today find someone and tell them of the greatness of God in your life. Exalt His name before them and all that He is. Worship God and let Him revive your soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God. How I exalt Your name above all names. You are great and mighty and worthy of all my praise and thanksgiving. I worship You God for all You have done and all that You are. In Jesus’ Holy name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt like a masterpiece? There have been many times when I have felt just the opposite. There are certain times, certain people or certain circumstances that seem to just flip a switch in me and next thing I know I am down the road of self-doubt. I feel opposite of all those good things that God wants for me. Significant? No. Of value? No. Purposeful? No. And certainly not a masterpiece. But I have learned over time to realize that what I may believe or not believe in those moments of self-doubt do not come from God. They are not from a Christian world view but rather my own erroneous beliefs of how I should be or others have thought about me. I have given back to God those parts of me that I feel do not measure up and if I cannot change them, I thank Him for them. They are all part of His plan. Today I choose to stand on God’s word and believe what Paul said. I am God’s masterpiece that He created so I can do the good things he planned for me. I invite you to do the same.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that You created me as a masterpiece for Your purposes. Help me believe that You love me and see me as significant, full of value and deeply loved. Fill me with a deep self-love that gives You all the glory and lives to fulfill the work you have planned out for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

“I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.”
Psalms 40:17 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every once in a while we need comfort don’t we? The news is worst than we thought, the pain is overwhelming, the pressure is tough, the fearful thoughts are relentless. What are we to do? The Psalmist remembers God. We should too. We should remember that God thinks of us. He is our help and deliverer and even though we are poor and needy, God’s hand can still extend to our aid. In II Corinthians 1:3-5 Paul writes, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” Do you know God as your merciful Father? You can today. Come to Him, let Him comfort you. He knows your need, He will be your help and deliverer. And when He does comfort you, you can go and comfort others in the same way God comforted you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You, poor and needy. Help me today. Comfort me and help me comfort someone else in the same way You did me.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Do not stay so far from me, for trouble is near, and no one else can help me.
Psalms 22:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been full of despair? Have you been in such a state you weren’t sure how you would go on? Life is full of struggles, heartache and difficulties. But there is God. David paints this horrific picture of despair and yet in the midst of it he gives hope. Hope in God. He writes, “For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.” He confirms this when he continues writing, “The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the LORD will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy.” So today, when trouble comes, when doubt creeps in, when despair is near, cry out to God. He will hear you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You know all about me. You know my struggles and heartache. You promise Lord that You are always near so I come to You today for help. Hear the cry of my heart I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE

Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.
Psalms 23:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The poem “Hound of Heaven” by Francis Thompson depicts God as a hound that is relentless in its pursuit of the hare. No matter where the hare hides or runs the hound will not quit until the rabbit is caught. I know that the author was really trying to convey that God in His mercy pursues us even though we run from Him. However, centuries earlier David used a different metaphor that is more in keeping with Scriptures. Rather than a hunter that seeks to destroy the hare, David talked of a Shepherd that loves his sheep. Instead of a gun to kill, the Shepherd uses a rod and staff to protect and comfort. Instead of pursuing with fear and torment, David writes, “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.” Both are right, God does pursue, but rest assured He is pursuing you with His love. Today, stop running. Pursue the one who pursues you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, lover of my soul. Forgive me for running from You. I turn to You today and proclaim with joy, “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.” Help me pursue You.
AMEN
