“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:9-13 (NLT)
When Paul decided to write about love, he didn’t mix words. He starts out by telling us to quit being phony and really love each other. We are to hate what is wrong and do good. We are to have a true genuine affection for each other and not fake it. We are to delight in honoring each other! This kind of love Paul is writing about is not lazy. It serves others. And what is love without encouragement? Paul, who knew real hardships, modeled encouraging love and asked us to do the same. Love helps us to rejoice in hope, be patient in trouble and pray when things aren’t going our way. Finally, when those we are suppose to love are in need, than love insists that we help them. Love is eager to practice hospitality. Today, let’s commit ourselves to real love, the love Paul is writing about. Let us love those around us the way Christ would love.
Dear Jesus, help me love the way You love. Help me love with action not just words.
