I Am Loved

May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Ephesians 3:18 (NLT)

I think Paul knew how hard it is to really grasp that we are deeply loved by God. During our first year of life we build what I call, “I am loved capacity” from the interaction of loving caregivers. In our second year we begin to notice that life can become disturbing, but thanks to our capacity we can return to the feeling that “I am loved.” The trouble is many of us did not experience this kind of environment. We did not build this deep emotional safe feeling. When circumstances go awry we go into shame, anger, doubt and fear. Paul teaches that no matter what our past, we can know God’s love. God can build our capacity to know deep in our heart that we are unconditionally loved by Him. That is why Paul writes, “May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” He says it again, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.” When we do begin to understand how loved we are, Paul promises, “Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Today, may you know how loved you really are!

Dear Father, help me to really understand how deeply loved I am by You. May I return to it again and again and again. Help me to know how safe and secure I am in You so I can be complete with the fullness of You life and power.
