Meditate

TODAY’S VERSE
I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.
Psalms 145:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our thoughts move so fast. For many of us concentration has become a lost art. Yet a deep spirituality demands that we spend time in reflection. We draw close to God as we spend time contemplating on all that is good about Him. Why? Because, knowing God, understanding the riches of His love, mercy and grace does not come from glimpses. The scriptures say that David was “a man after God’s own heart.” That meant that David spent time in God’s presence meditating on all that He is. In this same chapter David wrote, “The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.” Oh to be like David and perceive in the depths of our heart, that God is merciful and compassionate. This is our charge, to meditate on these truths till we are deeply influenced by its true meaning. Today, don’t just read about God, mediate on His majestic, glorious splendor.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for all that You are. Today help me to know You in a deep, personal, intimate way. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

My King

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!
Psalms 84:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get use to a word so that it loses some of its meaning. Look at the word “love.” We love our spouse and we love chocolate cake. It is possible to use the word “God” and not fully appreciate His majesty and the influence He should have in our life. In today’s verse the author gives us another view. He calls God the “Lord of the Heaven’s Armies.” God is almighty. He is powerful and able to deliver us in our battles. He is also a King. He is supreme. He is the ruler of everything, the sovereign Lord of Lords. But what really makes the difference is when the author says “He is MY King.” A King is one thing. “My King” makes all the difference. Today ask yourself, “Is He MY King?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Mighty God. Forgive me for diminishing Your importance in my life. Today I declare, “You are the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and My God!”
AMEN

Do It

TODAY’S VERSE
Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
James 4:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s not always what we do that gets us in trouble. Sometimes it’s what we do not do that is sin. For example, Paul instructs us not to lie but speak the truth. You may not lie but did you say what needed to be said? James tells us to be “doers of the word and not only hearers.” It’s failing to do or live out the “word” that counts against us. Often it is easier to follow rules than to follow Jesus. The rules tell us what not to do, Jesus tells us what to do. Loving others, hating evil, doing good, helping the poor and broken, sharing the gospel, living righteously – this is what we have been called to do. We know it; do we do it? Today, ask God to help you to do what you know you should do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your word. Help me to do it, not just read it.
AMEN

He Notices You

TODAY’S VERSE

Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 5:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I always loved this verse. It is so easy to think that we are insignificant, that God cares so much for others but not me; that I don’t really matter. What a lie! In this passage there were four men who were bringing a paralyzed man to Jesus. They heard Jesus could heal but they couldn’t get through the crowd into the house where Jesus was. Instead of giving up, they tore the roof apart and lowered the man right into the room where Jesus was. Now Jesus could have focused on the paralyzed man. After all he was the one who needed help. But instead Jesus noticed the four men and the faith and persistence they had. He noticed them. We know that Jesus knows all about us. We know that He is omnipresent. But have you really considered the fact that He notices you? God stops and focuses His attention on you! You are the object of His gaze. Let that sink in. He notices you and He loves what He sees.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You paying attention to me. Help me believe that You know me and are aware of who I am. Help me to appreciate that kind of personal love You have for me. Thank You Lord for noticing me.
AMEN

Close To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
James 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You can be so close to someone yet so far away! The Children of Israel had the Tabernacle of God as they went through the wilderness. They had the tablets with the Ten Commandments written on them by God Himself. They were close to God, yet their hearts were far from Him. Are we any better? We have the scriptures, beautiful sanctuaries, thousands of Christian books, an endless supply of Biblical teachers in the media and yet how close are we to God? Closeness to God is not about all the spiritual aids we have. It is not about His proximity. He is as near as our own breath. The question is how close have we moved toward Him? Where is our focus? What are we conscious about? Today, if you feel far from God, who moved? Get up, awaken your heart and move toward Him. Talk to Him, love Him, worship Him. He is there. Are you?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, today I come to draw near to You. Draw near to me I pray. Invade my heart. Speak to my inner being. Fill me with Your presence, that I may know You better. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

A Confident Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song. I will thank you, Lord, among all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations. For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.”
Psalms 57:7-10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The scriptures say that David was a man after God’s own heart. How true we see this in today’s passage. David had a confidence in God. When I read “My heart is confident in you, O God,” I knew immediately this is something I want. But what is a confidence in God? What exactly does that mean? What does it feel like? What can I imagine doing if my heart feels that way? Is this something I can experience? I must conclude, “Why not?” Why can’t my heart be confident in God? Surely, He is the same God. Surely He loves me and is my Savior. As I read the passage again, I began to know what David felt like. I wanted to sing. I wanted to say with David, “Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song. I will thank you, Lord, among all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations. For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” What about you? Where is your confidence? Where is your hope? Where is your joy? Stop today and meditate on His love for you. Stop and consider that the Almighty God cares for you! He loves you! He created you for a purpose. Right now, stop and wake up your heart. Breathe in a deep breath. Breathe in all the love God has for you, all the care, all His focus on you, all the confidence that comes from the reality of His presence. Today, be confident of God’s love and presence in your life and then rejoice with David in saying, “My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that my heart can be confident in You. I can be confident in Your love for me, in Your power to protect me, in Your wisdom to guide me. Thank You, Lord, for all You do and all You are. I praise You today from a confident heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Habitual Sin

TODAY’S VERSE
Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me.
Psalms 19:12-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are creatures of habits. That is why so many of our sins happen over and over again. Some sins we get so use to, they no longer offend us. Others drive us to our knees. We cry out like Paul when he wrote, “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” What are we to do? We can do what David did. He acknowledged his behavior and asked God to cleanse him and keep him from his deliberate sins. We can do what Paul did and acknowledge the power of Christ when he wrote, “Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” The secret is found in what David writes in this same passage. It is in our relationship with God and His word that we will find victory. David writes, “The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. – The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living.” Today, talk to God about your habitual behavior. Confess any wrong doing and accept His forgiveness. Spend time with the Lord and let His word shape your life. In Christ there is freedom!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for my habitual sins. Through the power of Your Holy Spirit and Your word, give me victory. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions?
James 2:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What kind of faith do you have? It is easy to talk about faith as a subject. Yes, we can read about faith, even study it academically, but that is only intellectual knowledge. It is not faith until we live it. James continues in this passage writing, “Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, ‘Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well’—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?” He goes on to say, “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” Faith is more than believing in God and His word. It is the living out of that belief. Today, ask yourself, “Do I have a deep faith in God?” The answer will be in the choices you make and the way you live.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for saying I have faith and then living like I don’t. I believe in You, Father. Holy Spirit, help me translate that belief into action.
AMEN

Trust

TODAY’S VERSE
They did not believe God or trust him to care for them.- Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him.
Psalms 78:22,32 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You cannot live off yesterday’s trust. Each day is new and you must make choices all day as to whether or not you will put your trust in God. Fear, doubt, sadness, disgust; our emotions can skew our judgement and set off a wildfire of inner dialog challenging our faith in the Lord. Sunshine yesterday, cloudy today, our faith changes with the weather. But God is not the weather. He is never changing. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The ability to remember God’s faithfulness will feed the flame of faith and allow us to trust Him over and over again. This is why Paul wrote, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Today, tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your faithfulness to me. I come in faith believing that as You have done mighty deeds in the past, You will meet my needs today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Mercy

TODAY’S VERSE
Yet he was merciful and forgave their sins.
Psalms 78:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We take God’s forgiveness for granted. We don’t fully appreciate His mercy. Why? Because, we don’t see our behavior from His point of view. If we did, we would be utterly amazed at His grace. Listen to what the Psalmist wrote of the children of Israel in today’s passage. He wrote, “Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him. All they gave him was lip service; they lied to him with their tongues. Their hearts were not loyal to him. Oh, how often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved his heart in that dry wasteland. Again and again they tested God’s patience and provoked the Holy One of Israel. They did not remember his power and how he rescued them from their enemies. They did not remember his miraculous signs in Egypt.” How much of this could be said of us? And yet, in the midst of all this rebellion is today’s verse, “He was merciful and forgave their sins!” Today, marvel in His love, mercy, forgiveness and grace He extends to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I have rebelled against You. How ungrateful I am of all You have done for me. How easily I have forgotten Your mercies. Forgive me! Today, I come with thanksgiving for Your love and grace toward me. I exalt You, Lord, for Your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
