Unforgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:31-32 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Forgiveness can be a difficult process. Many traumas are rife with deep emotions, making it extremely hard to maneuver our thinking into a place of forgiveness. Other situations involve long standing relationships with all its complicated nuances. Sometimes it is easier to ignore God’s commandment to forgive, hoping that all the pain will go away. But instead, the pain festers and infects our whole soul. Paul lists bitterness, rage, anger and all types of evil behavior as the diseases we contract from this spiritual infection. But there is a cure. It is forgiveness. Now forgiveness is not forgetting or living without consequences, but it is a process by which we can stop letting the pain hurt us over and over again. Forgiveness is a choice. A choice to acknowledge our emotional hurt and then choosing to forgive and not holding the offence against the person anymore. It is surrendering the offence to God and letting Him deal with it. The reason we can do this is because of Christ’s own forgiveness of us. We reap the benefit of His grace. May God help us to give this same grace to others. In doing so, we will be set free.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, show me those areas of bitterness and unforgiveness in my life. Help me to acknowledge them, own them and then give them back to You. Then Lord, in obedience and with Your strength, help me forgive each and every offense that You bring to my mind. Set me free Lord from the sin of unforgiveness.
AMEN

More Than Coping

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So many times I feel a deep need in my heart. It may be a tugging, or anxiousness. Perhaps a tightness in my neck or shallow breathing. I may give out a deep sigh. If I stop to reflect, I may be able to get in touch with the thoughts and feelings going on. If I did, I may be able to apply today’s verse to my situation. But instead of seeking comfort from God, so many times I choose to cope or escape into other things. Isn’t this at the root of lust, cravings, our drive for success and other addictions? Isn’t this why we tend to procrastinate, over compensate, or just vegetate? We want comfort. We want to know that we are okay, loved and will never be abandoned. We want that primal feeling that all is well and people are happy to be with me. And so we search, seek and try to find comfort in all the wrong places. But Praise God, Paul gives us hope. He asks God to give us what we so desperately need. Read it and receive it today. “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.” Today receive His wonderful comfort and strength deep into your inner being.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I cannot find real comfort on my own. I cannot find the strength I need in myself or the other substitutes I use. I need You. I need Your comfort and strength. Come, oh Lord, and comfort my soul. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

More Than A Baby

TODAY’S VERSE
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse encapsulates the true meaning of Christmas. Although we celebrate His birth, Jesus is so much more than a baby. He is Immanuel, God with us. He is our Savior, the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. He is our wonder counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. No wonder the Angels were singing, the Magi bringing gifts and the shepherd worshiping Him. How can we do any less? Today, come worship Jesus who was born in the manger. That same Jesus is alive in our heart and reigns on High.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to earth as a human to be my Savior. Thank You for being alive in me. You are indeed the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace.
AMEN

May You have a wonderful Christmas and a tremendous New Year!

Immanuel

TODAY’S VERSE
All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.
Luke 2:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Shepherd’s had just come from seeing the baby Jesus. An Angel had told them all about the birth so they went to worship. When it was all over they were telling everyone and those that heard the story were astonished. Now who would be more astonished than Mary? She too was visited by an angel. She too was witness to this magnificent moment. What I love is that this wasn’t just a moment in time for her. It was a moment of revelation. She of all people knew that God had performed a miracle and indeed the Son of God was born. Today’s verse says, “Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.” We need to do the same. Christmas comes once a year but the presence of Immanuel is with us every day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, what a miracle. That You would come to earth as a baby so You could grow to become Immanuel. Might I be conscious of the Immanuel truth, that you are with me, each and every day.
AMEN

May You have a wonderful Christmas and a tremendous New Year!

Filled With Love

TODAY’S VERSE
The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.
I Timothy 1:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you filled with? There is such a danger in our society to turn our Christian experience into an intellectual experience. We fill our head with facts, rules and knowledge about God. But Paul warns that there is more than knowledge. He wrote that, “some people have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions.” Instead we see that the goal of Paul’s teaching was more than giving us knowledge, it was to fill us with love. A love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience and a genuine faith. That is what good Bible teaching does. It purifies our heart and emotions, clears our conscience of all our sins and increases our faith. How exhilarating. How challenging. Today, might we know God’s word and have a grasp of its truth in a way that we become filled with love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me know Your word and sink it deep into my heart making it pure, in my conscience making it clear, and in my faith making it genuine. Lord may the result be a life full of love.
AMEN

Hope In Him

TODAY’S VERSE
From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. – I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
Psalms 130:1,2,5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where would we be without hope and faith? And yet faith and hope by itself is not enough. We can have faith in the wrong thing. We can be hoping where there is no hope. But the Psalmist knew who he believed in. He knew the character and power of God, so when he was in his deepest despair, he would cry out to Him. He could count on God to hear him. He writes to Israel, “O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love.” It was God’s unfailing love that kept him going. It got him up in the morning and allowed him to put one foot in front of the other, even when he did not know where he was going. In his depths of despair, God’s love sustained him. Today, bring your needs to God. Call on Him for help. Count on Him to come through. Today, put your faith and hope in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come and put my trust in You. I am counting on You, Lord, and Your unfailing love to sustain me. I have put my hope in You.
AMEN

Live For Him

Live For Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
I Timothy 4:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember as a young person how today’s passage shaped my life. It was exciting to be challenged to live like a believer should, even though I was young. God cared about my behavior. He did not discount me because I was young. He gave me everything I needed to live the life He wanted me to. Well, today, four decades later, God still cares about my behavior. I am not off the hook because I am older. I still need to live the way God wants me to. And how exciting to know that God still empowers me by and through His Holy Spirit. Today, no matter what your age, let God help you be an example of what a believer should be in the way you talk, live, have faith, love and keep yourself pure.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me everything I need to live for You. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will guide me and empower me to live, love, and have faith in a way that pleases You.
AMEN
