Choose The Light

TODAY’S VERSE
So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.
Psalms 56:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How often do we think of light as being life-giving? It is when all there is, is darkness. Without the light we would be in peril. Without light how would we avoid pending danger? But the word “light” in today’s verse is only a metaphor. It is walking in the presence of God that the Psalmist is really talking about. It is being conscious of God and letting Him lead us in everything we do that guides, sustains and protects us. Today we have a choice. We can choose where we want to walk. Will we walk in the darkness or will we choose the light?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to live in awareness of Your presence. Help me to walk in your life-giving light.
AMEN

Servanthood

TODAY’S VERSE
Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.
Mark 10:43 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some of Christ’s teachings were counterintuitive to what we learn in this world. A leader, we think, should be assertive, take charge and rule with a “my way or the skyway” attitude. But this is not the type of leader Jesus advocated. When discussions of leadership came up amongst the disciples and they were vying with each other to see who would sit on Christ’s side in glory, Jesus reminded them of His kingdom values. You see, in the Kingdom of God it is of supreme importance to be kind, to prefer others over yourself, to serve and to love. Jesus said it this way to the disciples, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” A servant is one who makes sure that the needs of the person that they are serving are met. They care for the other person. They are genuinely concerned for the other person’s welfare. Jesus wants us to be that kind of leader. A person who cares about those that are following. A person that puts love in action and people above the process. Today, when you are asked to lead, remember whoever wants to be a leader must be a servant.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me lead through servanthood. Help me follow the example of Jesus by loving others and serve them with all my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Spiritual Battle

TODAY’S VERSE
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Ephesians 6:10-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We need to remember that we are in a spiritual world and there is a war going on. We have an enemy of our very soul. But unlike a regular war, in this war we have an incredible advantage. Though there are powers against us, Paul tells us that we have the mighty power of God to help us every step of the way. Though we are in a fight, God has given us all the armor we need to be victorious. In actuality, it is not our war, it is God’s and as we trust in Him, put on His armor, use His might and not ours, He assures us that when it is all over, we will be standing firm. Today, put all your trust in Him. Put on His armor and live today by faith; for this is true, the victory is ours.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I cannot win this spiritual battle in my own power. I ask for Your guidance to guide me and Your might to be my strength. Today I put on Your armor of righteousness, truth, the word, faith, the message of Your grace and gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. Lead me in spiritual victory today I pray.
AMEN

Wait On God

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
Psalms 62:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so hard to wait sometimes. We are so driven. Burdens, passions, ambitions all take turns moving us from moment to moment, barely leaving us time to breathe. Even when we don’t have pressing needs, we fill our time with busyness. And when we aren’t hurried on the outside, we are spinning around and around inside, deep in the recesses of our mind. Thoughts out of control, emotions hammering us, voices commanding us to keep going, keep moving. All the while our soul is crying out for rest. And all the time God is waiting to give it to us. He desires us to stop and know Him. David knew this, so he forced himself to stop and wait. He wrote, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God.” And why? Why did David do this? Because he knew God was his only hope of peace. He declared, “My hope is in Him.” It can be the same for you. Today choose to stop the madness. Stop the busyness. Choose to wait, wait quietly before God. Know Him, love Him, fellowship with Him. As you do, you will find your hope in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I have been so busy that I haven’t taken the time I should to be with You. Help me change. Help me as I seek to wait for You. Help me as I attempt to quiet my heart. Help me hear Your voice. Help me see Your face. Help me find my hope in You.
AMEN

He Is Our King

TODAY’S VERSE
But though I have rescued you from your misery and distress, you have rejected your God today and have said, ‘No, we want a king instead!
I Samuel 10:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How much do we really rely on God? How much do we really commune with Him and depend on Him for wisdom and direction? Think about it. We have pastors, radio preachers, counselors and bookstores full of books and magazines. That’s not counting conferences, colleges, Bible studies or Sunday School classes. With all this help, with all this representation of God, why would we ever need God at all? The people of God wanted a King. They wanted a physical representation of God, instead of God Himself. Now there is nothing wrong with having Pastors to teach and equip us. Participating in small groups or enjoying Bible Study is a needed thing. The point however, is this. In all our searching, in all our seeking for answers, for all the comfort we are looking for, let us not forget to seek God Himself.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so sorry for putting other things above You. You are all my heart really needs. I come to You, my Lord and King, and ask that You would guide and direct me throughout this day.
AMEN

Power and Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!
Psalm 68:35 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of things that we need to make it through this life. Sometimes it is hard to ascertain what exactly to ask God for. Today’s verse sets good guidelines to help us when we pray. First, God is awesome. We have every right to ask for His miraculous power to intervene in our situations. He is able to heal, change circumstances or to move in the hearts of people. We need to ask and expect God to be awesome on behalf of His people. And yet there is another side. Today’s verse also says that God gives power and strength to His people. Although we can ask God to show His love to others, hasn’t He commanded you and I to be His ambassadors of love? Paul wrote, “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” And who knew this better than David? After all it was David who picked up the stone and aimed at Goliath but God directed the stone. David said to Goliath, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.” God created you and I do be His ministers in this world and He gives us the strength and power to do it. What a magnificent plan, God with His power working with and through us to do His will in this world. No wonder David ended saying, “Praise be to God!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I can’t live the life You want me to without Your power. Nor do I want to try. I come today and ask You to guide me, direct me, and fill me with Your power and strength. May You show Yourself strong through all I say and do. To You be all the Glory!
AMEN

Love and Good Works

TODAY’S VERSE
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When you became a Christian, you became a follower of Christ. You became part of a world-wide fellowship of believers. This is more than a fraternity, it is a fellowship. But more than a fellowship, it is a mission. Our mission is to share the message of Christ to the world. It is also to love others and to become involved in doing good. Love and doing good? It sounds too simple and too humanistic. Instead, we want to preach and teach and tell others about the love of God. While teaching and preaching is crucial, we miss the point. It is not an either/or it is both. God has chosen some to teach, some to preach, but He has chosen us all to love. Why? Because our preaching and teaching will never be accepted by the world if it isn’t backed up with real living proof? And the proof that Christianity is real is in our actions, not our words. So, if we want to see others around us come to know Christ, we must tell them, but we must also love! Today think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live for you. Help me tell others about your love. But also help me think of ways to motivate others around me to join me in performing acts of love and good works.
AMEN
