Comfort and Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
Psalms 10:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are times when we feel helpless. But it doesn’t mean we are hopeless. David shared that God can give us hope no matter how helpless we feel. He hears our cries and will bring us comfort. That is why Abraham kept hoping even when there was no reason for hope. Even when circumstances did not make any sense, it was the comfort of hope that allowed Abraham’s faith not to weaken. Paul shared that “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.” Why did his faith grow stronger? Because He knew God and “he was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” How my heart yearns for that kind of faith, that kind of trust, that kind of hope. Today, may we know God like David. May we believe God like Abraham. May our faith grow stronger. Today, let us keep hoping.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me know You better. Increase my faith. Help me to trust in You and be comforted and full of hope. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to feel that we are all alone. No one understands us. Life gets hard and we feel we have no one to go to. Ah, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Zephaniah knew what it was to live in darkness. He was a child during the rain of the evil king Manasseh, and his son, the evil King Amon. There was idolatry, child sacrifice, murders and other evil throughout the land. But he grew up to know and trust in the Lord. He shares that we are never alone, that God is living among us. God is our mighty savior. He writes that God takes delight in you with gladness. He shares that God will calm all your fears with His love. In fact, he shares that God is rejoicing over you right now with exuberant joy! Today, know that you are not alone. God, who is love, loves you more than you can imagine, and He is ecstatic with joy to have you as His child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear father, thank You so much for being with me, saving me and protecting me. Most of all thank You that you are glad to be with me and rejoice in who I am and what I mean to You. Help me Lord to fully understand this.
Amen

Lord Of My Life

TODAY’S VERSE
You must worship Christ as Lord of your life.
I Peter 3:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We talk so much of Christ as our Savior. And certainly, He is. He came to seek and to save those of us who were lost. His purpose was to be a sacrifice for our sins. But we must remember that before He was our Savior He was and always will be God. The Alpha and Omega, Lord of Lord, King of Kings. We give Him praise as our Savior but Peter says, “We worship Christ as our Lord.” Has there been a time in your life when you have made that distinction? Has there been a moment when you realized that more than your Savior that Christ was asking for your allegiance as Lord of your life? It begins as a recognition and then becomes a commitment. Today, settle it with God. Submit to Christ everything that you are and have. Allow Him full reign in your life. Make Him the Lord of your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus. Thank You for being my Savior. I acknowledge that You came to earth as God in the flesh and now are ruler over all things. Therefore I surrender myself to You and ask You to be the Lord of my life. Guide my life, lead me in the way I should go. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Awe

TODAY’S VERSE
They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear.
Mark 10:32 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you feel? Jesus had an influence on those around Him. He taught with authority. He healed the sick, cast out demons, fed thousands with a few loaves of bread and fish. He made the waves of the sea calm down. He challenged the religious and inspired the pagans. Who was this man? People had never seen anyone like Him. Jesus predicts His death and resurrection and on their way to Jerusalem it says that the disciples were filled with awe. The people who were following were afraid. So here we are, centuries later. You know about Him. You’ve heard the stories, read His words, know about His death and resurrection. What do you feel? Today, might your heart be stirred. Might joy well up inside you. Might you be filled with awe over who He is and how He loves you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, make me conscious of Your presence. Forgive me for my apathy. Instead, today fill my heart with love for You. Ignite my soul I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Thoughts

TODAY’S VERSE
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.’ Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What thoughts do you fix your mind on? It is so easy to believe negative things. We have a negative bias. Negative thoughts give way to more negative thoughts. Paul know how to put a stop to it. Think about it. He was beaten, shipwrecked, stoned, put in prison. If anyone could have had an excuse to feel negative it would have been him. Instead he tells us to think on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise! What a litmus test. Today, check you own thoughts. See if they past the test. If not stop! You can’t help what thoughts come into your mind, but you can do something about them once they are there. May God help us think on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me renew my thinking. I need your help to so I can focus my thoughts on that which is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise!
AMEN

Lead Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
Psalms 24:4-5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to lose our way. If not lost, then we just aren’t sure which way to go. Direction is so important. I think I can make it down most paths if I was sure it was the one God wanted me to take. There is an assurance when you know He is directing you. There is a peace when you know that He knows exactly where you are and what lies ahead. There is a hope in the midst of each step when you know that God has said, “This is the way, walk in it.” So today pray with the Psalmist. Cry out to God and say, “ Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, please show me the right path to go on. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for I put my hope in you.
AMEN

Worries

TODAY’S VERSE
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
I Peter 5:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you do with your worries? We all have them. We can’t help what comes into our head but once there, we have choices. The trouble is worry feels productive. It feels like we are attempting to solve something. It feels like we are getting close to resolution but all we really are doing in ruminating over and over again all these negative scenarios in our head. Situations can cause us to be concerned, shocked, apprehensive, cautioned and even horrified. But after our initial reaction we can reflect, review the situation and take action. Worry however just worries. It doesn’t stop, it goes on and on, unless we do something to make it quit. We need something bigger than our worries to take care of them. That is why Peter says you can give all your worries and cares to God. Why? Because He is God, He is big enough! And because He cares about you! Can you feel your body relax? He cares for you. Can you feel the worries leave? How wonderful. Today, don’t hang on to your worries one more second. Give them to God. He cares about you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God. Thank You for caring so deeply for me. I am bringing all my worries and cares to You. Help me to leave them there.
Amen
