The Victory Is The Lords

TODAY’S VERSE
Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!
I Samuel 14:6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all have our wars to fight. Saul and his 600 men were trying to defeat the mighty Philistine army with thousands of soldiers. It was a bitter war. Saul and his 600 men were pinned down and trapped. Saul’s son, Jonathan, summoned his armor bearer and felt that they should go and fight the army. His famous battle cry was, “Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” With faith, Jonathon and his armor bearer went to the Philistine outpost and took on twenty soldiers. Then something miraculous happened. The Philistines’ vast army in the camp became confused, panicked and afraid. God added an earthquake and all the army fled, being chased by the Israelites. In the midst of difficult times, we need to be reminded that, “Nothing can hinder the Lord.” When the odds seem overwhelmingly against us, we must remember, “He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” Today, count on the Lord. Let Him help you in your own private conflict. He can win the battle!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my personal battles. You know how overwhelmed I can get. Lord, I know that nothing can hinder You. You can indeed give me personal victory whether I have many resources or only a few! Today I submit myself and my situation to You and ask that You would provide for me in miraculous ways. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Rejected Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
James 1:5-8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a bitter truth in today’s verse. The truth is often times we are just playing spiritual games with God. We come to a crossroad in life where we need to ask for wisdom. We go through the spiritual motion of wanting His wisdom, but as soon as the pressure is off, as soon as we think we are in the clear, we choose to go our own way again. Jeremiah puts it this way, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.’ But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’” Or as James suggests, we ask for wisdom but all the while we are still hanging on to what we want. We are torn between God and the world. We waver and our own worldly desire usually wins. How can we break this cycle? How can we really understand God’s wisdom for our life and then follow it? I believe it happens when we fall down at His feet, tell Him the truth, ask for forgiveness and then ask Him to direct us, guide us and empower us to follow Him. It is by spending time with God, listening to Him and accepting the guidance of His Holy Spirit. We follow Him one crossroad at a time. We live for Him, one request for wisdom at a time. We start to say “Yes” to Jesus one day at a time. Why not start today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, so often I have good intentions. I want to follow you. I ask for wisdom. I come to the crossroad with all the intentions to go down the right road and then something happens. I get torn inside and start to doubt. I start to waver, to be tempted to go another way and pretty soon I am far from the wisdom I so desperately sought. Help me, Lord to have Your wisdom and follow it. Today, Lord, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

You Have A choice Today

TODAY’S VERSE
Choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Choose today whom you will serve. Many people treat Christianity as if it was a “once for all” decision. We decide to receive Christ as our Savior and that is it. We are “born again” and then we go on autopilot. But the term “born” indicates that it is the beginning of a life-long process, not the end! Christianity starts with a single choice but is followed by a lifetime of choosing to live for Him. The trouble is our life becomes such a routine that we make choices out of habit. Worse, we don’t even see our behavior as a choice anymore. We are just responding as if we were programmed. We need to wake up to the fact that we do have choices. If you have been going down the wrong road, you can stop today and CHOOSE to go a different direction. Have you been upset? The good news is that you can CHOOSE to return to joy. Have you struggled with the wrong choices? You can CHOOSE to come to God with your problems and He will help you make the right choices. You have a choice because God gives it to you. All the power of God is available and waiting for you to make a choice. What will you choose today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that I do have a choice. I can choose to follow You every day. Help me see all the opportunities ahead of me. Help me to see all of the hundreds of actions I make every day as choices. Thank You that with Your Holy Spirit I am not powerless, I don’t have to be the victim of negative habits. I pray that You will help me, guide me, and give me the strength to choose wisely in everything I do today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hope Does Not Disappoint

TODAY’S VERSE
We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
Romans 5:2-5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Births and funerals. Health and disease. It seems that life has its contrasts. On one hand, we have the promised land, on the other, we have the wilderness. None of us go through life unscathed. We all have trials and difficulties. Some self-inflicted, others inflicted upon us. Paul knew that the temptation during difficulties is to complain and give up, so he wrote to the church in Rome to encourage them during their time of persecution. Paul admits to them that on one hand we have our hope of heaven and on the other hand we have suffering in this life, but he instructs us in both circumstances to rejoice. I understand the rejoicing in the hope of heaven, but why would Paul say that we should rejoice in our sufferings? Paul says we should rejoice in our sufferings because of “hope.” Hope is the word that makes all the difference. Our suffering produces perseverance, which produces character, which results in hope. But what really makes hope spectacular is what Paul writes next. Five words: “Hope does not disappoint us!” Hope in Christ will never fail. Today, you may have disappointment. You may have difficulties. But friend, today you also have hope!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today, where there is darkness, help me see hope. Where there is pain, help me feel hope. Where there is disappointment, help me realize hope and where there is doubt, fear and anxiety, help me know hope. Father, thank You that You promised Your hope will not disappoint us. I receive Your hope today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Lord, Renew Your Deeds Today

TODAY’S VERSE
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known.
Habakkuk 3:2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever read a passage of scripture that seems to express the longing of your heart? This verse expresses mine. Every time I read the Scriptures, I end up marveling at God’s deeds. How magnificent! How mighty! As I read the life of Jesus, I cannot help but think of how merciful and full of love He is. And yet, as I see my life, as I see the church today, as I see our country, I cannot help but pray what Habakkuk prayed, “Renew your deeds in our day; in our time make them known.” I believe God has stayed His hand. I believe He is waiting for the church to believe that He is mighty today and not just in the past. He is waiting for us to lay down our materialism, our preoccupation with success, fame, and riches. I believe He is waiting for those of us who go to church on Sunday to want His Lordship on Monday. We need the prayer of Habakkuk to flood our churches, to be on the lips of our people. It needs to be our passion, our plea, and our deepest desire. We need the Lord. We need His mighty power in our life. Today marvel at all that God has done in the past and then ask Him to do it again in your life. He is waiting for us to ask.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I marvel at Your mighty deeds. How I stand in awe of all that You have done. Dear Lord, I need Your power in my life. I come today and ask that You would again do Your mighty deeds. Make Yourself known to my world. Work in my life today that others might see and stand in awe of You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Behold His Beauty

TODAY’S VERSE
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
Psalms 27:4 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember when I first saw my wife. People had told me about her. They said that we would be a great couple. One friend, who was trying to match us up, brought me a magazine article with her picture in it. That was it. I was smitten. I beheld her beauty. It was more so when I finally met her. While we were dating, I would catch myself looking at her. Still today, I am moved by her presence. This is more than a visual experience. It is emotional and existential. Why? Because I fell in love with her. Did you know that you can behold God in the same way? You can. God has given us an “inner eye,” that spiritual ability to connect with Him in a deep and personal way. David knew this, so he made it his most passionate desire. He wrote, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; to behold the beauty of the Lord.” If you can do that, everything else in life will fall in line. Today, stop and ask God to help you “behold His beauty.” Commit yourself to spend time in His presence, read His word, meditate on His goodness and you will begin to fall in love with God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me begin to behold Your beauty. Help me know You, hear You, fellowship with You. Help me trust You, commit myself to You, and love You. Lord, I know this is a process but it is one I deeply desire. Start today, Father, and guide me into a deeper relationship with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Do His Work

TODAY’S VERSE
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When was the last time you did something for the Lord? He loves you. He cares for you. God wants to work with you to do His will. Paul reminds us, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Doing His good works, in His time and in His strength is what we were created for. It is where we will be the most fulfilled. It is where we will have the greatest peace. Today, work with God. Find out what He wants you to do and join Him. Ask God to guide you, direct you and lead you. You were created to do His good works.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I realize that so much of what I have done has been on my own. Today I realize that I am Your workmanship and that You created me to do Your good works. I ask You to take charge of my life. I invite you to guide me in all I do. I commit this day and all of its activities to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be The Light

TODAY’S VERSE
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:14-15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Light. You never really appreciate it until you are in the dark. We take light for granted. I remember one night having to hike deep in a forest on a mountainside. I had to get to a destination by morning and all I had was a dim flashlight. All night long I appreciated every ray that emanated from the head of that lifesaving light. The next day on the way back I saw that I had walked for miles along the top of a deep ravine. Without the light, I am sure I would have perished. As Christians, we are the light for the world. We are the illumination on the path that leads through the wilderness along the dangerous ravine. Jesus reminds us that we must not hide the light but instead should put it where everyone can see by its brightness. He concludes with this command, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Today you have a choice. You can contribute to the darkness of those around you or you can be the light. There is no neutral ground. When God gives us an opportunity, might we shine the Love of Christ to those around us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that today You would shine Your light through me. Guide me to the darkness that You want me to shine upon. Help me see the needs around me and respond with Your love and compassion so others will praise Your name.
AMEN

No Perfect People Allowed

TODAY’S VERSE
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
I Timothy 1:15 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“No Perfect People Allowed”. I first heard this phrase in a message by John Burke, Pastor of Gateway Church in Texas. I find it appealing because it allows us the freedom to be who we are in Christ. It is like the phrase, “Christians aren’t perfect, they are forgiven.” Yet why is it we come to church and pretend that everything is okay and never seek out the help we need? Could it be due to the fact that when someone does something wrong, they so often end up being ostracized from the rest of the fellowship? We need to work on getting rid of the stigma of falling down in our Christian walk and learn to help each other back up. People are looking for a Christianity where they can belong. Where they can be authentic and real with their life story. Paul tells us to “bear one another’s burdens,” not to pretend we don’t have any. Paul starts his spiritual journey admitting that he is the “chief of all sinners.” As he goes through his journey, he changes focus to who Christ is and what He does with sin. Christ convicts, corrects, forgives, gives grace and helps us get up after a fall and try again. We are not perfect, but thank God, He has a perfect plan. Begin today, with all your struggles and imperfections, to live for Him and rejoice in His unconditional love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I am tired of trying to be perfect. You know that I am not. I cannot do it. I humbly accept your grace, forgiveness and unconditional love for me. Help me live for You without condemnation. Guide me by the power of Your Holy Spirit I pray.
AMEN

The Kingdom Of Heaven Is Near

TODAY’S VERSE
As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.
Matthew 10:7,8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus did the will of His father. He told His disciples to do the same thing. He gives us the same commission. Jesus said it best in John 14:10, 12: “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father.” Today you and I have been called to be about the same Father’s business. We have been asked to go to the world and cry out, “The Kingdom of God is near!” We go in His power and do His will. We go in His love and heal the broken-hearted. We go in His provision and give to those in need. He has called us to do greater things. Today, let’s be like Jesus and let the Heavenly Father live and do His work through us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that Your Kingdom would be evident in my life today. Guide me, lead me, show me what You would have me do. Give me the courage and faith to trust You for mighty things and to be obedient to what You ask of me. I pray that I would honor You in all that I do today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
