More Than This World

TODAY’S VERSE
He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is something about this world that causes us to yearn for the next. We were never meant to live here without belief in the next. God created us for more than just this. He created us to be eternal. A soul that never dies. He has etched it deep into our hearts. C.S. Lewis wrote, “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” The good news is that Christ came to make a way to prepare for the next life. He is the only one who lived in both. He is God and human in one. He made a way, through His death, for us to co-exist with a Holy and Almighty God. So much so that we now can come to God and call Him Father. That’s what children do. They call their Father, “Father.” And they long to be home. Listen to that inner voice and respond to your Father in Heaven.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I do hear another voice. It is from a distant land, and I do long to know more about it. There has to be more than what I can see around me. I come today and ask You to make me more conscious of Your presence. More aware of Your power and mystery. I invite Your Heaven to invade my earth and help me become a citizen of both. Awaken my soul to Your heavenly reality. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

You Are His Delight

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Some thoughts are so powerful, they can change your life. Or at least they should. This passage is that way. If you can read, “He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing” and not feel special, not feel like God adores you, not be moved to gratitude and thankfulness for His attention toward you, then you need to read it again. If you can read, “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save you” and not feel secure, special and in a safe place, then you need to stop, ask God to speak to your heart and read this verse over. Today’s verse can change your life if you let it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Who am I, Dear God, that You would shower me with such attention? And yet, even with my doubt and feeble faith, today I choose to believe You. Quiet my heart with Your love, help me see with my imagination Your smile of acceptance and sense Your warm embrace of love and hear my name in Your singing. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Help Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Help, LORD.
Psalms 12:1

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Sometimes the most significant prayers are the simplest. “Help me!” It is the cry of the heart that God hears. David knew what problems were like. But he knew where to turn. In another Psalm, he wrote, “In my distress, I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” How about you. Will you cry out to God to help you? What is it that your soul needs? What is the longing of your heart? Talk to Him, pour out your heart. He will listen.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the invitation to pour out my heart to You. I cry “help me.” Help me, where I don’t even know I need help. Help me, in ways that only You can. Help me, with Your power, Your love, and Your wisdom. I commit myself to Your loving care. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Help Me Believe

TODAY’S VERSE
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Faith is not easy. If it was, it wouldn’t be “faith”. However, the more we get to know the object of our faith, the more we can “become sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”. How well do you know God? Do you spend time with Him? Do you trust Him? It’s not always what we “believe” that affects our lives; sometimes it is what we don’t believe. If you do not believe God loves you deeply, if you do not believe that He will do all He says He will, if you do not believe that He will never leave you or forsake you, then your prayer needs to be like the man who came to Jesus to see his boy healed, “I believe, Lord. Help me overcome my unbelief.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I believe but I need You to help me overcome things that I am having a hard time believing. I want to know, love, trust and believe You more and more. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love Is More Than A Four-Letter Word

TODAY’S VERSE
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
I Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
I read this list of love’s attributes and I feel so inadequate. I am guilty of using the word love so insincerely, not even close to its true meaning. Love is more than a four-letter word. I use the same word to describe both my attitude toward a sports team or favorite dessert and my devotion toward my spouse or God. Love is more than saying, “I love you.” More than a romantic feeling, love demands my doing something. It is more walk than talk. It’s the kind of love the world is dying for. Today, I invite you to join me. Let’s read the list of love’s attributes over again and make it our goal today to love those around us in this radical Christ-like manner. With His help, you and I can love the way Christ would have us love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, loving the way You love is not easy. I cannot do it by myself. I ask You to help me today love those around me with the patience, kindness, sacrifice, and dedication that You love me with. Thank You for Your love; help me to love others. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You Believe About God?

TODAY’S VERSE
And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What we believe about God makes a difference. Is He an overbearing parent, never pleased with us? Is he our celestial Genie whose purpose is to give us our wishes on command? Is he a senile old man, unable to really comprehend what we are thinking or doing? Is He sadistic, getting pleasure from making our lives miserable? Perhaps a mad scientist that started this experiment but has lost control, not able to influence any desirable outcome? If we are really honest with ourselves, we will see a little bit of our own beliefs in these scenarios. The author of Hebrews says if we want to please God, then we must believe that He is the God of the Bible, not something that we made up. Not some misconceptions that we bring with us from childhood. He is the God who created the world and loves us with a never-ending love. He is the God that rewards those that earnestly seek Him. Start to seek Him today. Study the Bible, pray, meditate on His goodness. He is the God who desires to be known.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I confess I do not really know You as I should. I haven’t spent the time it takes. I haven’t shared my real heart with You. I haven’t waited long enough to hear Your voice. Forgive me. Please reveal Yourself to me through Your word and in my prayers. Today I commit myself to know You more.
AMEN

Stop and Praise Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagles!
Psalms 103:1-5

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Charles Spurgeon wrote; “I don’t which is more incredible, God’s faithfulness or man’s forgetfulness!” It is so easy to forget all that God has done for us. We get so preoccupied. Our lives get so crazy that we can go whole days, weeks, perhaps months without thanking God for His presence and provision. But today is a new day! Today we can say with David, “Let all that I am PRAISE THE LORD!” Today we can thank Him with our whole heart. Right now we can lift our eyes to heaven and shout, “Thank You, God, for all Your blessings!” He forgives our sins. He crowns us with love and tender mercies! He fills our lives with good things. Stop and spend a moment thanking Him for all He is and has done for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I praise You today with my whole heart. Everything that is in me says, “Praise You, God!” I thank You for Your tender mercy. I thank You for Your love and provision. I thank You for forgiving all my sins. Forgive me for forgetting so easily. Truly, Father, You are worthy of all my praise. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

New Thinking Habits

TODAY’S VERSE
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
It is so easy to let our thoughts run away from us. You know, the inward chatter that goes on all day. The voice when you get up in the morning, the musing on the drive to work, the stewing over events on the way home. Inner thoughts are powerful. They create emotions, which in turn, cause actions. Paul is saying that we have to take ownership of our inner dialog. It is so easy to be negative, anxious, angry, doubtful, bitter or carnal in our thinking. Instead, we need to be responsible for what we think and deliberately focus on true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy thoughts. What a difference this discipline would bring to our life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my thought process. You know my habitual thinking patterns. I bring them to You. I ask that You help me today begin a habit of focusing on true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy thoughts. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

He’s A Good, Good Father

TODAY’S VERSE
And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”
Galatians 4:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What a tender thought. Paul was very deliberate in using “Abba Father.” This is a more affectionate term than “Father.” The real translation of “Abba Father” is “Daddy!” God invites us to call Him “Daddy.” Can you say that? Have you thought of Him that way? Paul says that as God’s children, He has given us His Spirit and the job of the Spirit is to help us fall more and more in love with the Father until we realize that He is our “Daddy, Papa, our good, good Father.” Will you let Him do that? Will you begin to meditate, to really stop and consider that He is your loving affectionate Father? Imagine His deep love for you. Imagine you coming into His presence, calling Him “Daddy”. Ask God to help you know this reality deep in your heart, that God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to call you “Daddy” or “Papa”. I hear it in my head, but it isn’t quite in my heart. I invite You, Holy Spirit, to speak to my heart, to help me feel the Father’s love, to know you like a good, good Father. Prompt me, Holy Spirit, to call God, “Abba Father.”
AMEN

Here Am I

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Matthew 9 reads like a journal on supernatural power. Jesus heals a paralyzed man, raises a dead girl and gives sight to two men. He is exhausted feeling cramped in by all the throngs of people coming to Him for help. Even after all this, Jesus goes from town to town teaching, preaching and healing every disease and sickness. But then there is a dramatic shift in strategy – Jesus sees all the people harassed, helpless and needing help and then tells His disciples to pray that God would send you and me to help Him do His work. Do you get it? Jesus didn’t come here to help and heal everyone by Himself. He came to redeem mankind, begin the process of helping mankind find the way, truth, and life and then commissions you and me to take His power and ministry to the whole world. He has empowered you and me to aid Him in bringing His message of salvation and healing to a desperate world. The world where you and I live out our existence. In the Old Testament God asked His people, who will go share with the people? Isaiah said, “Here am I. Send me!” Might our response be the same!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I thank You for Your tireless mission of love that reached out to me. Today, I hear Your voice saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go?” How else can I respond to Your love but say, “Lord Jesus, I want to join You in Your work. Here am I. Send me!”
AMEN
