Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best.
Proverb 3:9 (MSG)
We often think of giving to God through an offering on Sunday morning. Many churches advocate giving God ten percent of what we earn. This is called the tithe. However, when it comes to giving to God, there is a more profound principle of stewardship involved. If we consider it, we know that everything we have comes from God. We are not an “owner’ of anything; rather, we are stewards and have been given a charge to use what He has given us in the best way possible. We are to use everything we have for His glory. Solomon had more wealth than any other person before him, and yet he saw the wisdom in honoring God with what he had. He is the one that concluded that all is vanity, that we work all our life only to leave what we have earned to someone else. Doesn’t it make more sense to use what God has given us for His glory now before we die? Today’s verse says to honor God with everything we own. Our car, house, furniture, recreational equipment, tools, savings, all of this and more can be used for ministry in His kingdom. If you don’t believe it, ask God to show you an opportunity to use your belongings for ministering to others. God has blessed us to bless others. Today, give the ownership of what you have to God and ask Him to show you what to do with it. In return, you will get the real riches of life.
Father, thank You for all You have given to me. I give it back to You. I want to be a faithful steward and use everything for Your glory. Guide and direct me to that end.
