Be On Guard

TODAY’S VERSE
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.
I Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We each have our battles. Life can be hard. Struggles can cause our faith to falter, and we begin to live as those who have no hope at all. Paul knew what it was like to have troubles; he knew hardship and heartbreak. And so, when he was finishing writing his letter to the church in Corinth, he gave them one final admonition. Like a coach before the final play of the game, Paul rallies the church and tells them to be on their guard. He wanted them to watch out for the spiritual battle. He told them to stand firm in their faith, being courageous and strong. The good news is they did not have to do this on their own. This same Paul reminds us in another letter he wrote that we can do all things through Christ who empowers us. Today, call out to God for His power, and then be on your guard. Stand firm in your faith. Be courageous today and stay strong.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, You have said that I can do all things through You because You will empower me. Help me today to be on my guard against evil and temptation. Allow me to stand firm in my faith. Encourage me to be courageous in my behavior and to be strong in Your power.
AMEN

Stand Firm

TODAY’S VERSE
It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ.
II Corinthians 1:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Standing firm is a Biblical imperative. Paul tells us why in a letter he wrote to the Corinth Church. He writes, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” The good news is that God enables us to stand firm, and Paul tells us how. He continues, “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm.” Today, suit up and be strong in His mighty power!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Almighty God, help me to stand firm and be strong in You and Your mighty power. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Have Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!”
I Kings 17:13-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you do when your back is up against the wall? It is so easy to get trapped into a “scarcity” model of living. We are so afraid of running out, being alone and not having enough that we plan, connive, obsess and protect ourself from any and all harm. On the surface this sounds suburban, smart, the right thing to do. However, if we really examine our behavior and attitudes, we will find out that we are full of worry. Worry is not faith. It is not believing that God really cares about our needs or that He is able to do anything about it. The widow only had a handful of flour left and a little cooking oil when Elijah asked her to cook his meal first. But he asked with a promise. A promise of God that there will always be flour and olive oil left for her and her son. The Bible says she stepped out in faith and believed God. The question is, “Will you?” Today, trust God for all your needs.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, it is so easy to worry about my needs. Thank You for Your promise to love me and take care of me. Help me to live a life of faith and trust in You today.
AMEN

Resilience

TODAY’S VERSE
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Psalms 94:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Resilience is the ability to bounce back from painful emotions. Every one of us has struggled in life. Where can we go to get the resilience we need? The Psalmist wrote that God gave him comfort when doubts filled his mind and renewed his hope and cheer. Centuries later, Paul wrote in the New Testament, “The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” Jesus Himself said that He would not leave us comfortless but would send us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, whose name is the “comforter,” wants to help you with every emotional struggle you face. Today come to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to comfort you. His comfort will renew your hope and cheer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, come and comfort me today. Renew my hope as I trust in You.
AMEN

Revive Us

TODAY’S VERSE
And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.
Hebrews 2:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We need revival. Never before has there been such a dismissal of the gospel. Little by little, we have seen the Church lose its influence. And yet, we can take hope from the early church. The Apostles were jailed and forbidden to share the gospel. However, they protested and said that they must obey God more than man. So that night, the church, in its infancy, cried out to God. They prayed, “Give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And that is what God did. Today God can do the same, but will we pray the same?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.
AMEN

Don’t Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!”
Mark 7:50 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus told the Disciples to take their boat to the other side of the Lake. While they were on their way, a large storm came down upon them. They were afraid enough by the storm, but then around 3:00 a.m., they thought they saw a ghost when Jesus came walking on the water to their boat! They were terrified. Jesus, seeing their fear doesn’t rebuke them but rather says to them, “Don’t be afraid. Take courage! I am here!” He says the same to you. What storm of life has you shaking in the back of the boat? What is keeping you up at three in the morning? Today, hear Jesus say to you, “Don’t be afraid! Take courage! I am here!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, You know those things that frighten me. Help me take courage today knowing that you are with me.
AMEN

You Still Belong To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant—I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.
Psalms 73: 21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever stopped to think about what our behavior seems like to God? The Psalmist did. He caught himself in a spiritually unhealthy place and saw a glimpse of what God must see. He writes, “I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.” What repentance. Oh, that I would be that sensitive. However, what really thrills me is the next part the author writes. It stands alone as today’s devotional. Read it and rejoice in the love God has for you. The Psalmist writes, “Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Today repent of any bad attitude toward life and God and know you still belong to Him!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray with the Psalmist, “Lord, I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but You Dear God remain the strength of my heart; You are mine forever.”
AMEN

Be Thankful

TODAY’S VERSE
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5:18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often, we forget how gracious God is. We forget all the good in our life. Like spoiled children, we take so many things for granted. Worse we tend to complain to God when things aren’t going our way. God abhors complaining. Paul knew this, so instead of complaining, Paul encourages us to be thankful. How different would your life be if you began to thank God in all things? What if you began to praise Him for His love, power, wisdom, majesty, and grace toward you no matter what the circumstance? What type of relationship do you think you would develop with Him? What kind of spirituality would you develop? Today begin to thank God in all things. It will change your life. Out of praise will come contentment, peace of mind, faith, and hope. This is God’s will for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for complaining. Forgive me for my lack of faith. Today I come to thank You. Might Your praise be continuously on my lips, my Lord and my God.
AMEN

How Do You Fight Your Battles?

TODAY’S VERSE
When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”
II Kings 6:15-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you fight your battles? Here we see a situation that Elisha finds himself in. The King of Aram was trying to defeat the Israelites, but God would share it with Elisha every time they had a plan, who would then tell the King of Israel. The King of Aram was sure that he has a traitor in his court, but everyone insisted that it was the Prophet, Elisha. So, the King, in his anger, sent his troops to seize Elisha. Elisha’s servant got up in the morning and had a rude awakening when he went outside. Troops, horses and chariots surrounded them. Now Elisha was already aware of his plight. Did he get his sword? Did he get the Armies? No, he had a different plan. He gave the battle to God and leaned upon him. You see, Elisha saw what the real reality was. God had already revealed to Elisha what he prayed for his servant. Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. God was in Elisha’s battle plans. He asked God to intervene and deliver him, and that is what God did. We need to bring our battles to God. Yes, a mighty army may come against us, but the real truth is that the Army of God surrounds us. Today, might we rise in faith and cry out, “The Battle is the Lords!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, open my eyes that I can see you in all my battles. You are there. You surround me with Your love and might. Help me trust in you.
AMEN

You Can Have Real Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How are you affected by stress? We all have situations that get us down, emergencies that distract us and cause us to fret. Situations that anger us, others cause us grief. We become full of worry and anxiety. What are we to do? Isaiah has a word for us. It is as if God had him look ahead to today and say, “God will help you with all your stress. He will give you peace that passes all your understanding if you do one thing. Keep your thoughts fixed on God.” What a precious promise. What love and concern for us. Today, stop and focus on the Lord. When stress comes, keep your eyes on Him. You are not alone. He will keep you in peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father. Help me keep my mind on you. I ask You to keep my heart and my mind at peace today.
AMEN
