Core Beliefs

TODAY’S VERSE
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Does it seem hard to believe some of the Scriptures? We read today’s passage and if we listen closely, we can hear an inner dialog start to deny whether it is true or not. It may be, “Why should God help me?” “God didn’t help me last time.” It could be a muffled sound from a deeper level saying, “I don’t deserve His help.” “It will never work out.” These are lies that keep us from believing the truth of God’s love for us. I wish I could simply say, “Hey, stop believing a lie and believe the truth” and everything would work out. But it isn’t that easy. You see, the core lies we believe about ourself are believed emotionally and are hard to overcome. We have made agreements with them. Simply pointing out the lies we believe will not change anything. I need Jesus to tell me the truth about myself. He needs to help me hear the truth emotionally with authority, then I will be free to destroy the lie and embrace the truth. Today, ask Jesus to point out destructive lies that you are believing about yourself. Bring those lies to Jesus and ask Him for the truth. The truth will set you free. Free to believe all that He has promised.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am often hampered by lies I believe. I have wounds, hurts, scars that have left me believing the wrong things. I need you to show me the lies and then speak truth to my heart. Set me free Jesus, to believe the truth of who I am in Your eyes.
AMEN

Trust In God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.
I John 4:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Trust is a beautiful word. According to Merriam-Webster, it means, “Assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.” Now put the word “trust” with the word “love” and you really have a concept. John did just that. He wrote, “We have put our trust in his love.” When is the last time you put your assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of God’s love? John could have suggested putting trust in God’s strength or His power. How about His wisdom? The truth is, when we get God’s love, we get everything else. We get all of God wrapped in His amazing unconditional love. So today when you are tempted to go to no ends to try to solve everything your own way, when you are slipping into anxious thinking or fearful apprehension, stop and trust in His love. Simply trust in all that He is, loving all that you are.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to really put my trust in Your love.
AMEN

God’s Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
Answer this question: Does the God who lavishly provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you? Galatians 3:5 (The THOUGHT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How is it we come humbly to Christ for the forgiveness of our sins and then later think that we have to earn His favor? Paul reminds us that Christ has lavishly provided us with His own presence and works things out in our lives that we could never do by ourselves. And He does it because He wants to! We live under the grace of God. We live because He has given us everything we need for the Godliness He requires. God has already changed us into His likeness. His Holy Spirit has given us His Spiritual DNA. All we have to do is grow in Him. Today, accept the fact that when you received Christ as your Savior, He became alive in your heart and there is nothing else you have to do to make that a reality. It already is. All you need to do now is to love and trust Him. Accept His deep, deep love for you and completely trust the fact that you are His child and He is pleased with you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the reality of Your love. Thank You that I can live in the full knowledge that there isn’t anything I need to do or could do to get You to love me anymore than You do right now. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

His Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
Ephesians 6:10 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is no doubt, in this life we need to be strong! How many times are we gripped with uncertainty, fear, and doubt? How often are we attacked by rouge thoughts that would take us captive and leave our souls barren? It seems no matter how weak we get, we still have more room for weakness. But today’s passage says, “Finally, be strong.” And we try! But our strength just doesn’t seem to be enough. That is why I rejoice in the rest of the passage. When we continue to read we see that we are not alone in this spiritual battle. No, the verse says, “Finally be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” What a difference a few words can make. We are to be strong, but not in our own power. Rather we are to lean upon the generosity of our Lord Jesus Christ and His mighty power. Today, take a few moments and meditate on what “His power” really means. Consider what it can do, think about your life and how different it would be if indeed God unleashed His power in it. This is what He offers. He says, “Come today and use my power. Don’t try to do it on your own. Lean on me. I will give you my power to use so come, be strong in me!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today teach me about Your power. Show me how strong You are. Open my eyes to the possibilities before me as I choose to trust You and Your mighty power.
AMEN

Receiving His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way.
Colossians 1:10 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a fine line between doing good to earn someone’s affection and doing good because you already have it. Take God. He created us out of love. He has redeemed us out of love. We don’t have to earn His favor. It is through the acceptance of His finished work on the Cross that we become His child. From then on it is love and gratitude that should motivate us. But some of us have a hard time receiving that kind of unconditional love. What kind of marriage would it be if we had to constantly earn our spouse’s love? Wouldn’t it be a shame to have a spouse who loves you so much and yet, because you couldn’t receive that love, you constantly feel as if you must earn it? It is the same way with God. Yes, Paul asks us to “live a life worthy of the Lord” and to “live in a way that pleases God.” But nowhere does it intimate that we should live this way to earn His love. No, instead the Apostle John wrote that we should love God because He first loved us. Today, rejoice in the love that the Father has for you. Love God because His love for you is secure.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love. Thank You that I don’t need to earn it. I don’t have to live under fear and condemnation, but rather I can simply enjoy Your favor. Help me to truly receive Your kindness and Your abiding love.
AMEN

Eyes Open

TODAY’S VERSE
My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber – The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
Psalms 121:2, 3, 7, 8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I once saw a little boy crying hysterically, afraid that he was abandoned by his father in a large crowd of people. I remember thinking how odd because his father was standing right next to him. Something had frightened the son and, in his despair, he closed his eyes. As he cried, with his eyes shut, he was not aware of his father’s presence. It was not until the father picked the child up that he opened his eyes and returned to joy. How often are we like that little child? Something frightens us. It could be a confrontation, an anxious thought or worst, some dread of things to come. When our mind gets in that state, faith seems to go out the window. It is as if we stepped out of the presence of God, when in reality what we did was shut our eyes. The Psalmist decided to go into his day with eyes wide open. He writes, “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble!” He then affirms his faith by believing, “The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Today open your eyes. Wipe away your tears. Look up, the Lord is here! He will watch over you and keep you from harm. Put your trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me conscious of Your presence so I will put my faith in Your precious promises. The promise that You will watch over me and protect me. The promise that You will keep me from harm. Help me today, to open my eyes to Your power and love.
AMEN

God’s Provision

TODAY’S VERSE
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Self-reliance. Isn’t that the modern-day dream? Actually, it has been that way since the beginning of time. And “faith” seems to go right along with it. We have all sorts of faith when things are going well. But is it faith in God or self-reliance? The answer comes when money, health or relational situations start to falter. When things start to fall apart, do we? Does our “faith” go south, and fret, worry and fear start to occupy our minds? If so, listen to what Paul is saying. “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” We have a God who loves to provide all our needs. He wants to lavish us with His loving provision. So today, when we feel threatened, when we consider bad news, when something comes up that goes straight to the pit of our stomach, let us stop and consider what Paul wrote, “God will supply all your needs from His glorious riches.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father forgive me when I become self-reliant and forget that it is You that provides everything I need. I need You Lord and I thank You that You will supply all my needs today from Your glorious riches.
AMEN
