TODAY’S VERSE
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalms 37:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you desire? In his book “Desire” John Eldredge shares how we often confuse our “heart’s desires” with pleasures. His concern is that we have replaced deep seated needs of our soul with short term pleasures. Pleasure has become a false God, an idol. He writes, “Wal-Mart is open twenty-four hours a day now, with a dozen restaurants nearby. Next door, a multiplex theater with thirty-seven screens. Or stay home – we have more than a hundred channels on the TV. Then there are computer games and the internet. We’ve discovered gourmet coffee, gourmet jelly beans and popcorn. We’ve nearly perfected our little pleasures. But they are all imposters—every one. We are so taken by the dizzying array of choices, we never have to stop and take a good look at what we are doing.” He then brings up an interesting point. “Pleasure isn’t nearly so much about satisfying our desires as it is about anesthetizing ourselves. Think about the relief your pleasures provide: Is your desire truly and deeply satisfied, or does the relief come more through the temporary absence of desire?” You see, God knows the desires of your heart. He knows what you are lacking and He has promised that if you delight yourself in Him and His ways, He will give you what you really need. No worldly pleasure can do that. Today delight yourself in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, only You can really satisfy the desires I have deep in my heart. Only You know me intimately and have a plan for my life. Forgive me for having my idols of pleasure. I renounce them and will delight myself in you. Thank You that You will give me the desires of my heart.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What we think can dictate the way we feel. Then our feelings effect our thinking and so the spiral goes. So much of what we think at a rudiment level is false. Often what we worry about, the self talk we have, how we view ourself, our core beliefs about life, are based on lies, half-truths or erroneous assumptions. They enter our minds in stealth mode and before we know it, we are feeling down. These lies go unchallenged and cause all sorts of havoc in our lives. Paul says that there is a better way. He says to pray. Talk to God about our thoughts, expose them to the light of the Holy Spirit and the word of God. They are able to guard our hearts and minds. William Backus in his book, “Learning To Tell Myself The Truth” shares “Feelings follow your thoughts. Untruthful, negative thoughts lead to unpleasant feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration, while truthful, positive thoughts create corresponding pleasant and upbeat feelings.—Your feelings can serve as an alarm to remind you to question your thoughts and beliefs. Are they negative or positive? Are they true or false? Once you’ve begun to identify the underlying thoughts and beliefs, you are on your way to healing, wholeness, and happiness.” Today begin to follow Paul’s advice. When negative feelings come, “fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my inner person. You hear my self talk better than I do. By the power of the Holy Spirit please alert me to my negative thinking and help me fix my thoughts on what is true. Help me think with my faith in Your love and power, not with my feelings. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.– They did not remember his power.
Psalms 78:42

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is worry other than forgetting the power and promise of God? The legacy that the Jews, who fled from Egypt, left for their children is that they forgot about the power of God. All the miracles, all the provisions they had experienced and yet they were guilty of murmuring, complaining and idolatry. They lived as if God did not exist. Jesus came many centuries later and still found the same lack of faith. He was born amongst a people who did not know the all powerful God. So He showed them. He taught them not to worry about their needs because God would provide for them. He taught them to seek Him first and everything they needed would follow. Jesus lived among them for three and a half years. They saw the miracles, they heard His teachings, they experienced His power and yet like the Jews in the wilderness, “They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them. They did not remember his power.” What about you? When situations come today that force you to take pause, will you fear or have faith? Will you remember all that He has done or will you worry in unbelief? Today remember that the God of all power and provision is the same yesterday, today and will be tomorrow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You that You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. I thank You that Your power continues today as it has in the past. I know that You are able to provide, protect and keep me from falling. In faith, I give my life to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Moment in the Word - FB (jpeg)TODAY’S VERSE
How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Psalm 84:1-2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God never intended to confine Himself to a temple made by human hands. He had a better plan. He created man as a vessel for His very presence by placing a vacuum into the human heart that could only be filled with His presence. The Psalmist illustrates this when he writes, “My heart and flesh cry out for the living God.” Paul makes it crystal clear when he shares, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?” What a wondrous concept. So when we read, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD,” we can literally superimpose that image to our very body. His dwelling place, the very courts of the Lord, has found their new home, through the presence of the Holy Spirit, within our own body. Today you don’t have to go anywhere special to worship God. You don’t have to make a pilgrimage or look for lofty cathedrals. His presence abides in you. He who you come to worship is alive in your heart. Bow before Him, enter the gates of your heart with thanksgiving and worship Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating Your new temple within my own body. I bow before You as my Lord and Savior. My soul yearns, even faints to be conscience of Your presence. I worship You today in Spirit and truth. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have the live the Christian life by yourself? Isn’t it exciting that God Himself is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a rich business person calling you and saying that they are giving you a business. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, business equipment and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it, that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says that He is going to produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him! God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need for doing His will! So today you can go about your day knowing that everything you need in order to do God’s will is already provided. You can know that God is more interested in producing every good thing that is pleasing to Him in your life than you are. Rejoice, God is committed to equipping you with everything you need for doing His will. Truly, all glory goes to Him forever and ever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need for doing Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate, I do.– What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 7:15, 24-25 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times have we found ourself in this dilemma? We sit in the aftermath of some mess we have just created and wonder, “How in the world did I get here?” Paul knew what it felt like to utterly fail at trying to change his behavior. Who can’t relate to this passage? At the end of the day we have all felt like the “wretched man” that Paul is writing about. Dr. William Backus, in his book, “Learning To Tell Myself The Truth” explains it this way, “The sinfulness of human nature, man’s deepest spiritual disorder, involves a quarrel with God. Springing from this rift are underlying false beliefs about God and His attitude toward us (Spiritual misbeliefs), which in turn lead to untruthful thoughts, thoughts that affect our feelings and behavior and created difficulties in our relationship with others.” Out of these core misbeliefs come all sort of evil. But Paul doesn’t stop there. He asks, “Who will rescue me?” Then he gives a resounding answer, “Jesus Christ our Lord.” Backus says it this way, “The reality of sin and its effects in our daily lives is not the final word. As Christians we have the ultimate good news, the key to a healthier spiritual core.” Today, come to Christ for cleansing. Accept His total forgiveness. Ask Him to point out any Spiritual lies that are dragging you down. Throw off “wretched man” thinking and accept His grace, love and forgiveness.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, You know my temptations, struggles and failures. I confess I have believed lies about You that I need to get rid of. Help me know what they are and begin my inner cleansing. Thank You that Jesus Christ has rescued me.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt.
James 1:5-6 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever had people you are close to make a decision, a decision about something you know a lot about, yet they never asked your opinion? Have you ever been asked your opinion and then totally ignored? Have you ever been asked to “weigh-in” on a decision only to have to “buy-in” to a decision you disagree with? It is hard when you are ignored or when decisions are made that you think should have been different. What about God? How does He feel about people who go through life never asking for His opinion on anything? How about people that pray a desperate request never really intending to listen? Or worst, what about those that ask God for wisdom and treat His answer as simply a “weigh-in” deciding later to ask God to “buy-in” to the decision they made contrary to what God suggested? What about you? Do you ask God for wisdom or do you go about your life without His opinion? If you do ask God for wisdom, do you listen to it or are you off to something else not really listening for an answer at all? Finally, if you do ask for wisdom and hear God’s voice, do you “obey” it or do you “weigh” it. James tells us to ask God for wisdom and then believe God will give it to us and not doubt His answer. Today, when you need wisdom, ask God, really ask Him. Then, listen to what He says. When you hear, follow His path. It is like the old Hymn says, “Trust and obey, for there is no other way. To be happy in Jesus, just trust and obey.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know that I don’t ask You for wisdom like I should. And when I have asked, I have often ignored You. Forgive me Lord. I know I need Your wisdom for this life and I ask that You would give it to me. Then, Holy Spirit, guide me, direct me, empower me to do what Your wisdom dictates. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN
