In His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of the death and resurrection of Christ, we can come into the very presence of God and receive all the mercy, grace, and help we need, just when we need it most. What a significant truth this is! Amazingly, God allows us to spend time in His presence. What is even more amazing is how many of us don’t spend that precious time with Him. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer,” the author, Rick Richardson, writes, “My heart was receptive – As we walk the healing journey, no other single thing we can do, may have a greater impact than learning to listen to God. God’s voice is the healing voice, just as God’s presence is the healing presence. We must hear the voice of God reverberate in our soul, exposing the lies about our unlovability, worthlessness, or despair and speaking to us the truth. We must.” Christ has done everything needed so we can come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. Today, do it! Listen to Him. Be confident that He desires to speak the truth of your lovability and worth to you and make you whole. When you do, you will find all the mercy, grace, and love you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, dear Lord, for providing a way that I can come into Your presence. Thank You that Christ is my High Priest, and I can go boldy into Your presence. Thank you for the confidence I can have that You will give me all the mercy, grace, and help I need to make it through this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Show Me Your Glory

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” – Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
Exodus 33:14-15, 18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The people of God had sinned. While Moses was on the mountain top receiving the ten commandments from God, the people were rebelling by creating an idol and worshipping it. God was angry and was going to destroy the people. However, Moses pleaded with God to spare the people. Finally, God told Moses to take the people away without Him lest His fierce anger comes against them. Moses knew better than to lead these people without God’s guidance so he asked to reconsider and lead the people with His own presence. Even more, Moses asked God to show him His glory. Oh, that we would seek out and depend upon the presence of God the same way Moses did! What a difference it would make in our life. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer”, Rick Richardson writes, “Do you long to be filled at the core of your being with more strength, more substance, more hope? You may feel an urgent need for immediate help and practical steps. But I implore you to realize that knowing God, practicing God’s presence, and seeking God’s life is more important to your healing than anything else in all the world.” C.S Lewis, in his book “Miracles”, writes, “The presence of God is the most real thing we ever encounter.” Today, decide like Moses not to go any further, not to consider any new direction, without being conscious of the presence of God. Might we pray, “Lord, show me Your glory.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know so little about Your presence. All I know is I don’t want to take another step without really knowing You. Lord, help me become aware of Your Glory. Reveal Yourself to me. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

I Want To See

TODAY’S VERSE
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!”
Mark 10:51 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“I want to see.” That may be an obvious answer for a blind person who is asked by Jesus, “What do you want me to do for you?” Sight is a precious gift that we quickly take for granted. But as I read this, I thought, I too need to ask for sight. Not physical but spiritual. I am so blind to the things of God. The cry of my heart is, “I want to see.” I want to see, like the servant of Elisha, who was afraid of the enemy armies until Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The Bible says, “The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.” He saw reality with spiritual eyes. I also want to see the way Paul prayed we should see. He wrote, “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Today when God asks you, “What do you want me to do for you,” answer, “Help me to see.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me with my spiritual blindness. Open my eyes Lord, that I may see what you want me to see.
AMEN

Word And Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.”
Mark 12:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some mistakes are more critical than others. Jesus pointed out the worst. And sadly, we are often guilty of making it! There aren’t any two things more relevant to the way we should live than knowledge of the Scriptures and experiencing God’s power. Yet how many days do we live without the influence of either? Paul tells us, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” If this is true, why would we live day after day without it? And God’s power? Why would we deny ourselves of such an incredible reality? Jesus was attacking the religious attitudes of the Pharisees. They wanted to argue doctrine, law, and pretense. But Jesus didn’t see rules and rituals; He saw God’s word and power. The author of Hebrews writes, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” Jesus said, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.” Today may God help us to truly know both.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me everything I need for a Godly life through Your divine power and promises. Help me to know more about your word and power I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Word

TODAY’S VERSE
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Insight, inspiration, hope, wisdom, confidence, direction, correction all this and more is found in God’s word. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to take the scriptures and make them relevant to our life. The Psalmist experienced this living word and knew if He would learn it, meditate on it and let it affect who he was, that it would result in the kind of behavior that was pleasing to God. Today, we can have the same experience. Spend time in God’s word. Meditate on it. Listen to what God has to say and let His word sink deep into your heart. If you do, you will be able to say with the Psalmist, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, as I read Your word, help it sink deep into my heart. Help me hear You and understand how You want me to live. Inspire me, guide me, and empower me by Your word I pray.
AMEN

We Live By Faith Not Sight

TODAY’S VERSE
For we live by believing and not by seeing.
II Corinthians 5:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I sometimes wonder what was wrong with the disciples? They were with Jesus. They saw Him every day, they saw the miracles, they heard the teachings, and yet, how many times did Jesus have to say, “Oh, you of little faith!” Thomas wouldn’t believe in the resurrection until he saw Jesus and the nail prints in His hands. So Jesus told him, “Thomas, you believe because you have seen with your own eyes. How blessed are they who believe and yet have not seen?” And that is our lot. We believe without seeing. We live by faith. Paul writes, “Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.” We live in what John Wimber called the “here and not yet.” It means that the Kingdom of God has come to earth, but we are not in Heaven yet. The good news is, in this world, God has assured us that faith is enough. With faith, we can have hope and certainty. Paul concludes, “We live by believing, not by seeing.” Today, trust God. Put your faith in Him. Look at life with your spiritual eyes, and you will see that faith has a sight of its own.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my lack of faith. Today I choose to put all my trust in You. Guide me I pray.
AMEN

Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.
Ephesians 1:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Spiritual wisdom and insight. It is perhaps the most essential trait we could ask God for. It was so important that Paul constantly prayed that God would give it to the church. When God asked Solomon to ask for anything he wanted, Solomon asked for wisdom to rule the people. God was happy with this decision and gave Solomon “a wise and understanding heart.” We need no less. Every day we face circumstances and make decisions. How often have we relied on our understanding instead of seeking God and the wisdom that He has? James tells us that if we lack wisdom, all we need to do is ask God. David tells us not to lean on our own understanding but seek God, and He will direct us. Today, ask God for wisdom. Ask Him for insight and understanding. Seek Him, talk to Him, listen to Him, and He will give you all the wisdom you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You asking for Your wisdom and insight. Guide me, direct me, give me all the wisdom I need to make it through this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Alone

TODAY’S VERSE
Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.
Psalms 5:2-3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s not God plus something else. That is what happened to the children of Israel. They turned from God toward idols. Oh, they kept their form of worship but added the superstition of other religions. They needed God, but to feel safe, they added idols. How about you? What are you trusting in? Is it your job? Your education? Your reputation? Do you trust in positive thinking or some other philosophy? Have you crowded out God for some other form of comfort? David came to God each morning. When he was troubled, he cried out to God, no one else, just God. And God heard his prayers. David trusted God only and waited patiently for Him. Today, you can do the same. He is trustworthy. His love for you is boundless, His mercy is endless, and His grace is sufficient for all your needs. God is in the waiting. Might you say with David, “I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You and You alone for all I need. Forgive me when I have turned to other things. I know better. You are sufficient. I know Your love for me is boundless. So today, I come, and I bring all my requests, hopes, and dreams and wait expectantly on You.
AMEN

A Way Of Escape

TODAY’S VERSE
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
I Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How subtle sin can be. We begin to wander from the things of God, and soon our life starts to take a different course. Most people that end in some sort of addiction or negative situation never intended to get there. They didn’t wake up one day and say, “I think I will go down a road that will ruin my life.” No, it was small little navigations that got them to the foreign shore. Likewise, in the life of a Christian, we don’t wake up one day and say, “I will be far from God.” It starts with missed opportunities of fellowship, lack of discipline in prayer, Bible study and mediation, weekdays between church services without Christian influence. Little by little, we become more and more like the world around us and trade our Christian experience for a mask we wear on Sunday. What can we do? Thank God for the reality of what Paul shares in today’s passage. Paul reminds us that the temptations that you and I face every day are the same as everyone else’s, but God is faithful and will show us a way out. On every descent away from God, there is a window of sanity. There is an opportunity to repent, to turn around, to come back to God. The prodigal son found it. Peter found it. God enables us to “come to our self,” to come to our senses, and He does provide a way out. Today, if you find yourself far from where God wants you, ask yourself, “Who moved?” God didn’t. He loves you; turn around, there is a way of escape.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so easy to wander from You. Forgive me. Help me to escape today from all that entraps me. Help me break away from all that has taken my heart from You. I come to You now, dear Lord. I want to follow You.
AMEN

Help Me Know The Truth

TODAY’S VERSE
Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.
Psalms 119:29

TODAY’S THOUGHT
As humans, we are separated from other creatures in the fact that we are cognitive. We have thoughts. Therein lays our problem. Just because we have a thought, doesn’t mean it is true. Our thoughts can be influenced, manipulated or misled. We can be sincere in our thoughts but be sincerely wrong. David prays that God would keep him from lying to himself. We need the same prayer. Jesus said that Satan is a deceiver and a liar. It is his purpose to trip us up through a web of deceit. I am sorry to say, but I often don’t need any help from Satan. I do fine with deceiving my own self. So many negative and pessimistic thoughts. Negative things I believe about myself, about others, about life and even God! Instead, I need to ask God for discernment and wisdom in knowing and living the truth. Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.” As we seek the truth of every situation we are in, God will lead us. How about you? Are you living in the truth or have you set yourself up with a web of deceit? Confess it to God. Repent and choose to live in the truth. When you do, He will set you free.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, you know how easy it is for me to be deceived. You know how easily I deceive myself. Please help me today. Help me discern the truth and then live it out in my life.
AMEN
