All The Strength You Need

TODAY’S VERSE
I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Strength is the energy that God gives us to complete a task. It is what helps us endure to the end. Strength is also what helps us resist negative forces. What better place to get strength than from God! He is able to provide all the strength we need to do what He has called us to do. Need to love someone who is unlovely? Ask Him for strength. Need to forgive someone who hurt you deeply? Ask Him for strength. Have to do something that seems impossible? Ask Him for strength. Is fear crippling you, depression strangling you? Ask Him for strength. Paul said, “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.” We can experience the same reality that Paul did. How? Paul answered that in his letter to the Ephesians. He wrote, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.” Today, ask Him for strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Almighty God, I need Your strength. I can’t live the life You want me to without it. Help me, Father. Give me all the strength I need to do all that You ask me to do. Today strengthen me with Your power, through the Holy Spirit I pray. In Jesus’ name.

He Is Here With Me

TODAY’S VERSE
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!
Psalm 139:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
A friend of mine, Jim, had to go and see a potential employer. What could be wrong? He thought he had the job. Now what? He fretted all day and on his way to the plant, he remembered part of a doxology that he had come to love. It says, He (God) goes before you to show you the way. He thought to himself, “God is already there!” He received peace and everything worked out. A dear friend of mine, Pastor Howard Hoekstra has been saying the same doxology for over 30 years. It goes like this. “As you go forth from this place today, may you know that the living Christ goes with you. He goes before you to show you the way. Behind you to encourage you, alongside you to befriend you. He is above you to watch over you and, inside of you to give you His power, both now and forever more.” David knew the reality of God’s presence. He wrote, “If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.” The Apostle Paul wrote, “Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Today, what fears do you have? What is worrying you? Let us quit acting like God doesn’t know. He has gone before us. He is already there!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am so thankful that nothing will ever separate me from You. No matter what my circumstance I thank You that You are already there.

Filled With God’s Knowledge

TODAY’S VERSE
We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Being filled with the knowledge of God is crucial to our Christian experience. But how does this happen? How are we filled with the knowledge of God? We gain knowledge as read His word for understanding and quiet ourselves listening to God. Dallas Willard in his book Hearing God shares, “So our union with God – His presence with us, in which our aloneness is banished and the meaning and full purpose of human existence is realized – consists chiefly in a conversational relationship with God while we are each consistently and deeply engaged as His friend and co-laborer in the affairs of the kingdom of Heaven.” This is what Paul is talking about. We listen to God, muse on His word and practice His presence as we go about living for Him. When we do, He will give us wisdom and knowledge, the fruit of good works and all the strength and power we need. Does it get any better than that?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, is it true? Can I really be filled with your knowledge and wisdom? Can my life bear good works? Can I really have Your strength and power in my life? This is what I desire. Please help me, Lord, with the discipline I need to quietly spend time listening to You and reading Your word. Help me experience Your presence. In Jesus’ name.

Re-Correct Your Course

TODAY’S VERSE
That is why the LORD says, ‘Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.’ Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Joel 2:12-13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Attitudes and behavior. How easily they can get us off course. Left unchecked, we can find ourselves far from where we wanted to be. It is like that in sail boating. You don’t get to the other side of the lake in a straight line. Storms, waves, the wind . . .  all send you off course. Instead, you have to constantly readjust your sails, re-correct your course, in order to reach your destination. In life, it is our sinful behavior and attitudes that separate us from God. It was this way in the parable of the Prodigal Son. It was the son who decided to leave home and rebel against the father. But there is hope. Jesus said that the son was at a low point, feeding the pigs and “then he came to his senses”. He thought of his father’s love and mercy and decided to go back home. God, through the prophet Joel, says that we can do the same thing. “Turn to me now,” God says, “while there is time.” Do you feel far from God today? Do you feel off course? Who moved? Come to Him, come in repentance, come in true sorrow, ask for His forgiveness, ask Him to help you re-correct your course. When you do, listen to the promise Joel makes, “He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my attitudes and behavior. You know how I have wandered off, far from You. But today, I have come to my senses. I want back. Thank You for Your forgiveness and unfailing love toward me. Holy Spirit, help me to re-correct my course. In Jesus’ name.

The Battle Is In the Mind

TODAY’S VERSE
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
II Corinthians 10:5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When it comes to the many struggles in life, the real battle is often in the mind. James writes, “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?” (James 4:1) That is why Paul tells us to demolish those thoughts that stand against what God wants for us. We are in a spiritual battle and need to take every stray thought captive and repent; correct it the way God would have us correct it. If I am hating someone, I need to capture the hateful thoughts, realize that they are wrong, ask forgiveness and choose not to hate. Paul also gives us a second way to win the victory in the battle for our mind. He says that we need to discipline our thinking so it focuses on thoughts that are worthy of praising God for. Those thoughts that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable and excellent. Anger, bitterness, hate, jealousy, fear, anxiety – these negative emotions can literally kill us. They are joy robbers. They suck the life right out of us. Greed, selfishness, pride, and thoughts that are worldly keep us from living for God. The good news is that God has not left you powerless. You have a choice. Take responsibility for your thought life. Capture the negative thoughts and focus on the good ones. Today, choose your thoughts wisely.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, so much goes on in my head. Help me today, to bring every thought captive and realign them to where they are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable and excellent. In Jesus’ name.

You Have A choice Today

TODAY’S VERSE
Choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Choose today whom you will serve. Many people treat Christianity as if it was a “once for all” decision. We decide to receive Christ as our Savior and that is it. We are “born again” and then we go on autopilot. But the term “born” indicates that it is the beginning of a life-long process, not the end! Christianity starts with a single choice but is followed by a lifetime of choosing to live for Him. The trouble is our life becomes such a routine that we make choices out of habit. Worse, we don’t even see our behavior as a choice anymore. We are just responding as if we were programmed. We need to wake up to the fact that we do have choices. If you have been going down the wrong road, you can stop today and CHOOSE to go a different direction. Have you been upset? The good news is that you can CHOOSE to return to joy. Have you struggled with the wrong choices? You can CHOOSE to come to God with your problems and He will help you make the right choices. You have a choice because God gives it to you. All the power of God is available and waiting for you to make a choice. What will you choose today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that I do have a choice. I can choose to follow You every day. Help me see all the opportunities ahead of me. Help me to see all of the hundreds of actions I make every day as choices. Thank You that with Your Holy Spirit I am not powerless, I don’t have to be the victim of negative habits. I pray that You will help me, guide me, and give me the strength to choose wisely in everything I do today. In Jesus’ name.

Trust God In The Darkness

TODAY’S VERSE
I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness, I cannot hide from you. To you, the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.
Psalms 139:7-12

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a difference in trusting God when things are going well and when everything seems to go all wrong. It can get so difficult. Sometimes we just end up in the dark. However, we are reminded by Isaiah that we can trust God in the darkness. Isaiah says even “without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.” David shares that we can never be anywhere that God is not present. He says that to God, the night shines as bright as day and that darkness and light are the same to him. Robert M. Cheyne wrote, “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies! Yet distance makes no difference. He is praying for you.” Neil Anderson has written many books on spiritual darkness and in his book Praying By the Power of the Spirit writes about his own time in darkness. He had to lean on his faith. He had to make a choice to “never doubt in the darkness what God has shown me in the light.”
Where are you today? Are you in the light? Praise God, soak it in. Be thankful, learn at the feet of Christ so you will have plenty to guide you in the dark. Are you in the dark today? Stop for a moment. Quiet yourself. Listen for His voice. He is there with you. Remember the light and walk in the darkness with the same faith. The light will come in the morning!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, it is so hard in the darkness. Thank You that nothing can separate me from Your love. Even here in the dark, You are with me. Help me to trust You. Help me not to doubt in the dark what you have shown me to be true in the light. Thank You, Lord, that even this will pass; light will come in the morning.
In Jesus’ name. AMEN
