TODAY’S VERSE
This is what the LORD says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth.”
Jeremiah 9:23-24

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” This is one of the beatitudes that Jesus taught us. God puts a premium on humility which runs counter to worldly wisdom. In modern society, there is a premium put on “bragging rights.” Kudos are given to the person who is a success. We live for that elusive fifteen minutes of fame. Why? Because we want to feel important and appreciated. But God offers a better way. He says not to boast in our wisdom, power or riches, instead we are to boast in the fact that we know Him as our Lord. What makes this so exciting is that the very thing that we are looking for, love and acceptance, is found in Jesus Christ. We can boast in the fact that God loves us with unfailing love. We don’t have to earn it. We can tell everyone that we don’t have to perform to certain expectations. We can let everyone know that God loves us unconditionally. So today, boast about His grace and all the love He has for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for bragging about my own abilities. Forgive me for putting such high importance on my own possessions and accomplishments. Instead, I want to praise You, dear Lord, and will boast about Your unfailing love for me.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your God. Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you – Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God.
Deuteronomy 10:14-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some times we just need to be reminded. We get so busy, so crazy, so wrapped up in our own world we forget; we forget about God. And then in His mercy, He lets us come across a passage like the one today and it calls us back to what is real, back to Him and His love for us. The author reminds us that even though God made all of the universe and everything in it, He choose you and I to be the object of His love. The God of gods, Lord of lords, the Great God, mighty and awesome, chose you and I to be the object of His love. To truly know this and believe it, changes everything. No wonder the author writes, “Change your heart and stop being stubborn.” Today, turn to God, acknowledge Him as Lord of your life and thank Him for all His love, grace and mercy toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord God Almighty. I thank You for choosing me to be an object of Your love. Forgive me for taking that for granted. I come to You now and surrender my life to You, for You are the mighty and awesome God, worthy of all my praise and devotion.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Stay here for now, and may the LORD help you keep your promise.
I Samuel 1:23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live in a world that doesn’t honor its word. This is especially true of a promise that was made with the wrong motives; a promise that is more like “let’s make a deal” than it is a serious commitment. We either want something and will manipulate with a promise in order to get it; or we try to avoid certain consequences and use promises as currency to buy our way out of trouble. But this is not the way Jesus taught us. He said to make our “Yes” a “Yes” and our “No” a “No”. Yes, it is easy to fail at keeping our promises even when we have the best of intentions. There are so many distractions, so many important things vying for our attention that we can begin to serve the “urgent” at the expense of the promises we made. Integrity is key to the Christian life and we need to repent when we stray from keeping our word. Today, let us repent of our unkept promises and recommit ourself to follow through on what we say we will do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me keep my word. Help my “Yes” be a “Yes” and my “No” a “No”. Might I serve You by keeping my promises.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.
Psalms 42:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If nothing else, we are full of emotions. You can’t get away from them. But the goal is not to avoid emotions rather we need to regulate them. That is letting God, in all His power, grace and love, return us to a deep joy and peace. Psalms 42 exemplifies this. Throughout the Psalm the author shares deep emotional angst. But each time the Psalmist ends up turning to God. “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?” the author asks. But then the author writes, “I will put my hope in God!” Again, “Now I am deeply discouraged,” followed with a resounding, “but I will remember you.” Every day seemed to bring its emotional test but the author is quick to note, “Each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.” Today, life will have its emotional challenges but don’t stop there. You have a choice. Give your heart to God. Talk to Him, share your story with Him and let His love for you, His concern, His opinion of you, return you to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my emotions. You know my ups and downs. You know my hurts, my frailty, my insecurities. So I come to You. I come and ask You to speak to me, comfort me, share with me the truth of Your deep love and care You have for me. And then, in Your tender mercy, return me to joy. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love.
Psalms 51:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David didn’t try to impress God. He knew he had sinned. He knew he had wandered far from what God wanted him to be or do. And so he came. He came to God with a repentant heart and cried out to God. He knew that God would not refuse a broken and contrite spirit of humility; so he came to God and said the only thing he could say, “Have mercy on me.” Mercy. What a word. Mercy. God’s divine favor. God’s forbearance. God’s compassion. The acting out of God’s unfailing love. It is God’s unfailing love for David that allowed Him to have mercy. It was God’s unfailing love for David that restored him and brought him back from the brink of despair. This is the same love He has for you. Today, God’s unfailing love is focused on you. This is your moment. This is your destiny. This is your opportunity to have all the mercy you will ever need. Come with a contrite heart to God, His unfailing love is waiting.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, thank You that in all Your Magnificence You have ordained to have an unfailing love for me. I cannot fathom it, but today I accept it. I open my heart to receive it. Have mercy on me, dear Lord, and fill me with Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
Matthew 26:39

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Obedience is not the absence of doubt or fear. It is an act of faith and trust. Jesus was a perfect example. He knew that His purpose was to be the sacrifice for the sins of the world. He also knew that His death would be an excruciating, painful ordeal. In His anguish He came to God His Father and asked if it was possible to let the suffering that He was to face be put off. But in the next breath, He chose to exercise the gut wrenching faith that you and I are called to follow. Against His circumstantial evidence, against His desire to be free from such terrific agony, He submitted Himself to His loving Father. His Father, our Almighty God, almighty in love, in knowledge and in power. Our Lord Jesus, modeled the faith and trust that you and I need in order to live the life God has for us. He prayed, “I want Your will to be done, not mine.” That’s it, isn’t it? That says it all. Faith and obedience come together. Love and trust intersect. What is it you are struggling with? What is it that you cannot understand? What difficulties have you at your wits’ end? Come to God. Follow Christ and in faith surrender yourself to your loving Father and pray what Jesus prayed, “Not my will Lord, but Your will be done.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, there are so many times that I don’t know what to do. I am so perplexed, so troubled, but today I choose faith. I choose You. I choose to trust Your love and pray that “Your will” be done in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.
II Thessalonians 1:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This is one of those passages that really help you focus in on what’s important. What is my purpose? Why was I born? What possible significance can my life be? All these are answered in this short passage. Here we see a prayer we can pray for our life. “Oh Almighty, loving God, please enable me to live a life worthy of Your call.” And He has already equipped us to do this. In another passage Paul tells us that the fruit, or the result of living in the power of the Holy Spirit, is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Can you imagine the life we would live today, if we would ask God to produce that fruit in our life? That would be worthy of His calling on our life! Then God would give us power to do all that our faith prompts us to do. Why? Because our faith would produce desires in line with the fruit of the Spirit. Paul then assures us that the result of living this way is that the name of Jesus will be honored. So how do we know this can happen? How can we possibly think that this passage is meant for us? Because, Paul concludes this passage with this assurance, “This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ.” His grace gives you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to be filled with Your Holy Spirit, to bear the fruit of Your Spirit in my life. Help me live this day worthy of Your call. Thank You for Your grace and may Your power accomplish all the good things that You prompt in my heart through faith.
AMEN
