TODAY’S VERSE
Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me. I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.” – “Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged. For the LORD hears the cries of the needy.
Psalms 69: 1-3, 32-33 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all go through struggles and hard times. Life is not fair. There are times of sadness, despair and regret. The Psalmist paints a picture of someone trapped in an emotional downward spiral. Everything seems overwhelming and yet in the end they were able to say that there is encouragement in seeking God’s help. Why? Because God hears us. In the book, “Living From The Heart Jesus Gave You” the authors talk of two types of trauma that brings the kind of despair that we read in today’s passage. There is the trauma of “not getting what we need” and then there is the trauma of “getting something that we should have never received.” The first is the result of neglect and abandonment, the second from abuse. But the good news is that God hears us in our despair and He can help us. The authors write, “Life brings each of us inescapable traumas that block maturity. God’s redemptive activity comes to us in two ways: He brings healing to our traumas, and adopts us into His family. Both ways boost us through our blocks to maturity, along the way to wholeness. With these boosts, we will be able to live from the hearts He gave us, our true identities will emerge, and our relationships with family and community will be characterized by joy.” Today, praise God for His grace and power that is able to heal your emotions. It is there for you as you bring your pain to Him. Be encouraged the LORD hears your cries.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for hearing my cries. Thank You for Your desire to heal me from my traumas. Thank You for making me part of Your family where I can experience the love and fellowship that will bring me into maturity. I commit myself to You for my complete healing. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.
II Corinthians 6:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul was sharing about all the hardship and suffering that he and the church was experiencing. Even though the times were rough, he writes that the Holy Spirit that still produced the attributes that God desired in their life. Attributes like purity, understanding, patience, kindness and love were able to get them through the hardest times. In another passage Paul writes, “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” How is this done? Paul answers, “Let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” Today, commit your way to Him. Ask for the leading, direction and influence of the Holy Spirit in all that you do, think and say. When you do, He will produce the desired effects in your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, lead me today. I desire Your fruit to be evident in my life. Guide me, direct me, influence everything I do.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
Colossians 3:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul starts this passage by writing, “But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.” What a list. And how many times have we tried to do this? The only way we can successfully get rid of these negative characteristics is by getting rid of our old sinful nature. However, the best way to “put off” our old nature is to focus on “putting on” the new! But how? By getting to know our creator God and become more like Him. God has put in us the capacity to know Him. His Holy Spirit inside us guides us and as we attune ourself with Him, the renewing of our mind takes place. Today, spend time with God. Get to know Him, experience His presence and His immense love for you. Let Him speak to your heart. As you do, you will experience yourself becoming renewed.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You more. I want to experience Your presence more. I want to be renewed more and more so I can be like You.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.
Psalm 27:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
At first glimpse this verse may not seem like it has much depth. But if we really understand its meaning, it can change our lives. In his book Experiencing Healing Prayer Rick Richardson shares, “From our mother we get our sense of being and well being. From our father we get a sense of blessing.” The trouble is that none of us go through our childhood unscathed. No parent can completely meet all our needs. If our mother or father is controlling, absent, abusive, distant or exhibits any number of other negative traits, it can result in a struggle with affirmation and self esteem. But what can we do? Do we have to be a victim to a fallen world? Today’s verse gives us the answer. “Even if our father and mother abandon us, the Lord will hold us close.” When we understand our true relationship with God, we will be able to receive our sense of being and well being from Him. When we really comprehend how much He loves and approves of us, we will live our life from a deep sense of blessing that He has for us. Celebrating who we are in Christ can help us rise above our circumstances and go beyond the limits of our childhood.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for Your deep, deep love for me. I thank You that You created me for a purpose. I thank You that I am not a mistake. Thank you for holding me close. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
James 1:19, 26

TODAY’S THOUGHT
James doesn’t pull any punches. He knows how easy it is to pretend we are living for Christ. We have all the right outward behavior. We know the right phrases, go to the right programs, and do the right ministries. But James doesn’t talk about any of that. Instead, he gets right to the heart of Christianity. He says that we MUST be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. How different would this world be if all would heed what James has said? How many fights, feuds and even wars have been fought because people would not control their tongue or emotions? How worthless has our Christianity seemed to others because we did not allow James’ admonition to permeate our behavior? If Jesus would be Lord and Master of our life, then He must be Lord and Master of our tongue and temper. If this has been a weakness, confess it to Christ and ask for the help of His Holy Spirit. He will guide you. Today, might we give our emotions to Christ. When given an opportunity, might we be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how many times I have been so swift to speak and get angry. You how I have not listened to others the way I should. I confess my poor habits and ask, dear Lord Jesus, that You would forgive me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Give me the discipline I need today to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why is it so important that we do not fall into the trap of thinking that we have to be perfect? Because, there are no perfect people! Instead God expects us to admit our struggles and come to Him for help. And then, we humbly go and help others. In his book Abba’s Child, Brennan Manning shares the insight that the late Mike Yacinelli, author and co-founder of Youth Specialties, had after he went on a spiritual retreat. Mike writes, “Finally, I accepted my brokenness. I never came to terms with that. I knew I was a sinner. I knew that I continually disappointed God, but I could never accept that part of me. It was a part of me that embarrassed me. I continually felt the need to apologize, to run from my weaknesses, to deny who I was and concentrate on what I should be. I was broken, yes, but I was continually trying never to be broken again – or at least to get to the place where I was very seldom broken. It became clear to me that I had totally misunderstood the Christian faith. I came to see that it was in my brokenness, in my powerlessness, in my weakness that Jesus was made strong. It was in the embracing of my brokenness that I could identify with other’s brokenness.” Might we learn the same lesson that Mike did. Might we cry out to God and be comforted and then invite others to experience the same kind of comfort we received. This is the true Christian experience.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I admit that I have troubles. I bring my brokenness to You in exchange for your comfort. Help me to banish any shame, embrace my humanness along with Your grace and then comfort others in the way You comfort me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
Psalms 103:11-13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Guilt is an insidious emotion. The Psalmist knew this first hand. He wrote, “”I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.” His sin had caused him much grief. It affected him emotionally and physically. Our misbehavior, our rebellion toward God, does the same to us today. Hundreds of studies have linked toxic emotions to physical disease. But it doesn’t have to be that way. God has provided a way for us to have freedom from guilt. It is through the forgiveness offered by the death of His son, our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle John wrote, “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins-and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” Do you know this same Jesus as your personal Savior? Have you accepted His death on the cross as the penalty for your misdeeds? If so, you can say with the Psalmist that as high as the heavens are above the earth so your personal history, with all its pain and regret, is removed from God’s sight. They are as far as the east is from the west.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for my sins. Thank You that when I confess and renounce any wrong doing, that You are swift to forgive and cleanse me. I thank You for Your unconditional love that takes all my guilt and casts it into the deep sea. I praise You for Your unbelievable grace You give to me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
