Servanthood

TODAY’S VERSE
And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.
John13:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Humility is an essential part of our Christian experience. Christ has called us to follow Him in love and selflessness. Paul wrote, “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” Jesus said it best after washing His disciple’s feet, “And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.” Today, humble yourself and be the servant Christ has called you to be.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, I want to be Your servant. Help me have the same mindset of humility and servanthood that You do.
AMEN

Imitate God

TODAY’S VERSE
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us.
Ephesians 5:1,2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We tend to complicate things. We can take a simple message and make it complex. Isn’t that what we do with Christianity? We add our rules, traditions, and cultural nuances, and soon we have nothing that represents what Jesus had in mind. We end up worshipping in Country Clubs and live our self-centered lives as if Christ never existed. But that is not what Paul taught. He shared a simple message. One that cuts to the core of the way we should live. His straightforward message is that we should imitate God like a child does their parent. To make it more straightforward, Paul then writes, “We are to live a life that is full of love just like Christ did.” And why? Why should we live a life full of love? Because Christ loves us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us. It doesn’t get clearer than that. He loves you. He sacrificed Himself for you. Go and do likewise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me imitate You in all I do. Help me to love others as You did and follow Your example of sacrifice for others.
AMEN

Servanthood

TODAY’S VERSE
Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.
Mark 10:43 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some of Christ’s teachings were counterintuitive to what we learn in this world. A leader, we think, should be assertive, take charge, and rule with a “my way or the skyway” attitude. But this is not the type of leader Jesus advocated. When discussions of leadership came up amongst the disciples, and they were vying with each other to see who would sit on Christ’s side in glory, Jesus reminded them of His kingdom values. In the Kingdom of God, you see it is of supreme importance to be kind, prefer others over yourself, serve, and love. Jesus said it this way, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” A servant makes sure that the needs of the person that they are serving are met. They care for the other person. They are genuinely concerned for the other person’s welfare. Jesus wants us to be that kind of leader. A person who cares about those they lead that puts love in action and people above the process. Today, when you are asked to lead, remember whoever wants to be a leader must be a servant.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me lead through servanthood. Help me follow the example of Jesus by loving others and serve them with all my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
