Imitate God

TODAY’S VERSE
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us.
Ephesians 5:1,2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We tend to complicate things. We can take a simple message and make it complex. Isn’t that what we do with Christianity? We add our rules, traditions, and cultural nuances, and soon we have nothing that represents what Jesus had in mind. We end up worshipping in Country Clubs and live our self-centered lives as if Christ never existed. But that is not what Paul taught. He shared a simple message. One that cuts to the core of the way we should live. His straightforward message is that we should imitate God like a child does their parent. To make it more straightforward, Paul then writes, “We are to live a life that is full of love just like Christ did.” And why? Why should we live a life full of love? Because Christ loves us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us. It doesn’t get clearer than that. He loves you. He sacrificed Himself for you. Go and do likewise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me imitate You in all I do. Help me to love others as You did and follow Your example of sacrifice for others.
AMEN

Hard hearts

TODAY’S VERSE
For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes—so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.
Matthew 13:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God wants His word to penetrate our very being. We are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” and this includes the way we comprehend truth. Jesus took the writing of Isaiah and applied it to the people of His day. He warned them that their “eyes” were not seeing the truth, their “ears” were not comprehending the truth, and their “hearts” were not sensing the implications of the truth. It was a result of hardening themselves toward God. Turning away from Him, they ended up ignoring God’s truth. How often have we done the same thing? But it is not too late. It is through self-reflection, repentance, and being purposeful in believing in God’s word, that we can turn this around. Today, might God help you, and I read the word, hear the word and most of all, believe the word with our whole heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for the times I have hardened my heart toward You. Help me today to see Your word, hear Your word, and most of all apply Your word to my life. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Perfect peace

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every day is a new day. It is a do-over. That means that today you can choose to move toward peace. You do this by trusting God, trusting that no matter how you feel, no matter what the circumstances that God can still give you peace. He promises. Now peace may not take away the problems you are facing. Peace may not change any consequences you have or change the events of the past. But the peace that God offers passes our understanding. It keeps our hearts and mind. It supersedes our circumstances. It brings hope where there seems to be no hope. Today, come to God, fix your thoughts on Him, trust Him, and He will fill your heart with peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, you know my heart. You know my circumstances. You know my needs. I come to You today and am fixing my thoughts on You. I ask for Your peace to fill my heart and mind. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN

Understanding His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Trying to experience the love of God is like trying to experience the ocean or a beautiful mountain vista. You can hear about it, see beautiful pictures, but nothing can replace being there first hand. Even then, it is impossible to take in all of the beauty and meaning in one visit. It takes time and experience to appreciate the magnitude and majesty of God’s nature. How much more to truly understand God Himself and His great love for us? This experiential knowledge only comes with time spent in His presence, experiencing His love first hand. As we come to God humbling ourselves and admitting our needs, He comes to us with His love and grace. It is spending time with God with openness, trust, and faith that allows us to truly experience and understand the greatness of His love. Today, may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You admitting that I need more understanding of Your love for me. Help me to experience it deep in my heart. Help me live in the full awareness of the love and grace You have for me.
AMEN

Love and Obey

TODAY’S VERSE
Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you.
Romans 16:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
At first glance, we skip right to the word obey. So often, our emphasis is on obedience to God’s word. But Paul added another word. As a Pharisee, he knew what obedience to the law was. He also knew that Jesus was not satisfied with compliance alone. That is why he added the word “wholeheartedly” to obeying his teaching.” Paul was emphasizing the fact that they were following God with their whole heart. Surrendering to God’s love and having a deep relationship with Him leads to obeying His word. In his book, “Surrender To Love,” David Benner writes, “By contrasting obedience and surrender, I do not want to put too much distance between them. Those who surrender obey. But not all who obey surrender. – Christian obedience is more like what lovers give each other than what soldiers give their superiors. Lovers demonstrate their love by doing what each other wants. And so it should be with Christians and their God.” Today surrender to God’s love. Build a deep relationship with Him. When you do, you will find obedience to be a natural outflow of your love for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to surrender to Your love. Help me know You, spend time with You and learn to trust You completely. Help me love You, so I will naturally obey.
AMEN

A Fruitful Life

TODAY’S VERSE
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live so much of life as if it all depended on us. We must achieve. We must make people happy. You know, “If it’s going to be, then it’s up to me!” mentality. Now, I believe in personal responsibility and accountability, but we need to realize that we cannot live the kind of life Christ wants us to without Him. He is the one that came to give us a full life. It is “with” Him. We need to add faith to whatever we do by bringing God into the picture. We do this by changing “me” to a “we.” It is “Christ in me” that makes all the difference in the world. Jesus said that He came to give us a life that is to the full. He didn’t come to make us busy, or famous, or rich, or any other obsession that we may have. He came to give us the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This is what He wants our life to be built on. This is the life He desires for us. Today, let’s quit striving and start living. Come to Jesus and let Him fill you with His Holy Spirit. Ask Him to produce the “fruit of the Spirit” in your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask that You would produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit in my life. Help me live for You in Your strength and Your power.
AMEN

Significance

TODAY’S VERSE
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where do we get our significance from? Is it the accolades for the skills that we have? Is it praise for our achievements? Perhaps it is our job, money, or notoriety in some field of endeavor. Maybe we get significance from those we align ourselves with, those teams that we cheer, or the position we have on specific topics. These all can manufacture some kind of significance. But the most striking significance of all is that which comes from the way God created us, our very innateness. Our significance comes from being chosen as a specific creation of God that He loves unconditionally. He created us to be holy and without fault in His eyes. In his book, “The Deeper Journey,” M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “Here is the ultimate ground of our identity. You are a beloved child of God, spoken forth out of the heart of God’s love before the foundation of the world. The union of a man and woman that brought about your physical conception is only the secondary cause of your being. The primary center of your identity is the heart of God’s love.” So today, if you start to doubt yourself, if you begin to buy the lie that you are anything less than a loved child of God, remember this, God loves you and chose to make you His child before the world was ever created.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating me before You created the earth! Thank You that I am part of Your plan and dearly loved by You. Thank You that in You, I have all the significance I will ever need.
AMEN

Surrender To Love

Surrender To Love

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is no greater occupation for the Christian than to know the love of God. Paul prayed that we would be gifted with the power needed to understand it fully. He prayed that we would be able to experience God’s love, even though it is way beyond our comprehension. Why? Because that is the only way, we will ever be complete in Him. It is in truly knowing God’s love that we are endowed with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. In his book, “Surrender To Love,” the author David Benner writes, “The Christian spiritual journey consists of more than surrender to love. But it contains nothing more important. Surrender to God’s love involves confession, repentance, obedience and service. But as I have noted, for surrender to be transformational, it must be surrender to love. And for it to lead to union with God, it must be surrender to perfect love. Christian spirituality begins with love and ends with love.” Today God will provide all the power you will ever need to understand His love, but you must surrender. Come, spend time with Him and begin to know how wide, long, high, and deep His love truly is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I long to know You and all the fullness of Your love for me. I surrender to it. I need it. I come humbly before You and ask You to show me the mystery of Your love for me.
AMEN
