Heal My Inner Self

TODAY’S VERSE
“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.”
Psalms 27:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live in a fallen world and many of us suffer from early childhood trauma that has left us emotionally immature. It seems that we are constantly using negative ways to regulate our emotions. But we don’t have to be victims of our past. In His wisdom and grace, God has provided us with the ability to overcome childhood attachment issues through new adult relationships with Him. God designed us with the ability to bond with Him; whether it is in the moment of abandonment or decades later, when memories rise to the surface, He is able to hold us close and heal our broken hearts. Today, we don’t need to suffer from a painful past. We have the presence of the Holy Spirit, the forgiveness of Christ and the love of God the Father. As we spend time with God and develop a deep relationship, we will find ourself creating a new and liberating bond with God. This healing relationship with the Father will renew our mind and heal the negative memories that lead us to despair. Today, come to God. Let Him hold you. Allow His love to do a deep work in you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your loving commitment to me. Thank You that You have not abandoned me but instead You love me and hold me close to Your heart. Do a deep work in me. Heal me deep in my inner self and give me the joy and peace that only You can give.
AMEN

Unforgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
“People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.”
Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a price to pay for concealing our sin. A guilty conscious can lead to a downward spiral of fear, anger or shame. Unforgiveness can result in a bitter and hardened heart toward God. Soon we find ourselves ignoring the tug of the Holy Spirit calling us to repentance. But for many of us, the thought of others knowing about our sins is terrifying. We don’t even want to go to a counselor or Pastor. Fear of abandonment; the need to please others; a deep sense of shame, can keep us from dealing with our sin. Oh, we know it is there, but the thought of others knowing is too much to bear. So we slowly die, day by day our sins hidden from others, or so we think. Is the alcoholic that is in denial really fooling anyone? Is the person that is acting out in anger in danger of being mistaken for a saint? No, but if we think no one knows that is good enough. There is a way out. We need to lean on the love of God. We need to see that His love is greater than all our sins. That His love and power can free us from the fears that plague us. That He will never leave us or turn His back on us. When we really know the love of God, then we can confess our sins to Him and turn from them. And we will receive mercy. Mercy for our tired soul — tired from the entire masquerade. Mercy for our hardened heart. And where there is mercy, there is grace. Today, confess your sin. Turn from it and give it to God. He is waiting with open arms.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I have deep rooted sins. Sins I have been ashamed to admit. Sins I have been hiding from You and others. Today, I come and confess them. Be merciful and forgive me, I pray. Thank You for Your grace. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Never Abandoned

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD will not abandon his people – for it has pleased the LORD to make you his very own people.”
I Samuel 12:22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I don’t know how it could be any clearer, yet if you struggle, as I have, with issues of shame and abandonment, this verse will seem like some vague concept you can’t quite get your thoughts around. However, I have come to believe that even in the most fearful of us, the Lord can meet us, open our eyes to the truth and give us hope and peace. “The Lord will not abandon His people.” Don’t just read these words, feel them. Drop your guard, relax your shoulders, exhale and let the emotion of this tremendous promise sink deep into your chest: “God, our Father, will not abandon you.” And if that is not enough, hear the author say, “It has pleased the Lord to make you His very own people.” And that you are. Today, know deep in your heart, “You are God’s child and He will never, never, never abandon you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for my fears of your abandonment and a lack of trust in Your love. I renounce this, Lord. Today, I accept the fact that it pleased You to make me Your child and that you will never abandon me. I praise You, Lord, for this.
AMEN

Your Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant—I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.”
Psalms 73:21-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear of abandonment is a real issue for many people. Those of us who are people pleasers suffer with this feeling all the time. So how comforting is it when God assures us that He will never leave us? Here is the Psalmist. He was bitter, foolish and ignorant to God. But when He came to his senses he saw how bad he was before God. The amazing truth is that God did not give up on him or leave Him. Instead He forgave him, comforted him, counseled him and continued to guide him. God’s love caused him to write one of the most beautiful verses ever written about God. “Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Today, might we believe this for our own self.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I don’t always live the way I should. I know many days my attitude is all wrong. But today I know You forgive me. I know that You will never abandon me. I know that You are committed to my maturity. Help me remember this as I live out this day.
AMEN

Inseparable

TODAY’S VERSE
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.”
Romans 8:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems we start out believing by nature but soon become skeptical by practice. How many “guarantees” have you really experienced as true? We have been lied to, taken advantage of, and let down so many times we don’t know what to believe. But Paul knew one thing he was sure of. He was “convinced!” that nothing could separate him from the love of God. How many things are you convinced of? And what a difference being convinced can make. If you were convinced that you could invest $10,000 in a stock and get back $1,000,000, how long would it take you to get the $10,000? Paul had that same attitude toward the love of God. He was convinced that he could invest in God’s love and get back a peace that passes all understanding; God’s constant provision; the fruit of the Spirit; eternal life and so much more. Look over Paul’s check-off list. He was convinced that “nothing could separate us from God’s love. Not death nor life, angels nor demons, our fears for today or our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—or nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Today become convinced. God loves you and nothing will ever separate you from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I believe, help my unbelief. I want to be convinced of Your love. Speak to my heart, move me, help me really understand how trustworthy You are and how spectacular Your love is for me.
AMEN
