Burden Bearer

 TODAY’S VERSE

“I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn.” Psalms 142:2-3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Why do we keep things from God? We hurt, we reel from painful situations and so often we bear them alone. Worst we are tempted to ignore our pain, mask our real feelings or compensate with our busyness. David suggests another way. He says when we are overwhelmed, we should come to God and pour out our complaints. I love the metaphor. God invites us to come and dump out our problems before Him, not worrying about the messiness. And David knew what it was like to be burdened. He wrote today’s verse while he lived in a cave running from King Saul. Perhaps he remembered what he wrote at another time. He wrote, “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” There was his secret. He knew that God would daily bare His burdens. He knew God was the one who knew the way he should turn. And that same God, the God of David, will do the same for you. Today, come to God. Let Him bare your burden. Share your complaint with Him. Bring to Him all your cares and worries. Let Him show you the way to peace and joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Father, You know my complaints. You know my worries and cares. I bring them to You today. Take them Lord. I come, in the name of Jesus, asking that You would show me the way to go.

AMEN

TODAY’S MEDITATION & AFFIRMATION

I give my burdens to God

In meditation go to a quiet place. Be at peace knowing you are there to meet God. Next to you sits all your complaints, cares and burdens. See yourself crying out to God and watch as He approaches. You know He is coming to check on you and to help you with any burden you may have. You wait until you know feel safe and then in faith you pour all your cares, complaints and burdens at His feet. You watch as He picks up each one. He reads them with love and empathy. You sense how deeply He cares as He lovingly consoles you and shows you what to do next.

Rest For The Weary

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get weary. There are so many demands on your life. You live at such a fast pace, burning the candle at both ends. The result is that you end up tired much of the time. Where do you turn? Where do you turn for relief, comfort, and escape from all the pressure? If not careful, you can find yourself victim to addictions, unhealthy relationships or negative emotions. But Jesus has a better way. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” More than that, Jesus invites you to learn from Him. His teaching is easy, and His burden is light. So today, turn to Jesus. Bring your weary soul to Him. Give Him your circumstances and your emotions. Surrender yourself to His care. He promises that you will find rest for your soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my condition. I am weary and in need of renewal. I am so glad that You have invited me to come to You for rest. I know that You are gentle and humble in heart and will give me rest for my soul. So I come to You even now, Jesus. I put my soul into Your capable hands. Help me and heal me even now. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

No Burden

TODAY’S VERSE
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love this passage. The Lord bids us to come and rest. How different is that? It is the complete opposite of striving. You know striving to “earn” God’s love, or worst “keep it” as if God is some fickle tyrant. Nothing could be farther from the heart of God. Jesus knew we would be weary and carry heavy burdens. It is part of living in this world. But He never meant that living for God would be the cause of the burden. No, He said if we would take His teachings and live them, we would find rest for our soul. In “Desiring God’s Will” Dr. David Benner writes, “Hearing the invitation, everything within me wants to draw near and receive the gift of love that Jesus represents – not out of obligation but out of a soul-aching desire. And each time I do, my heart is slowly but progressively more aligned with the heart of God – God’s desires becoming my desires and God’s will becoming my will.” So today, quit trying to earn His love. You already have it. Don’t strive to please Him so He won’t abandon You, He will never leave you. Today, rest in His love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for all the times I strive under rules and regulations trying to earn Your love. Forgive me for making a mockery out of Your unconditional love for me. Thank You that your love is not a burden. Thank You that Your teaching shows me how to get rest for my soul. Give me that rest today I pray.
AMEN

Bear Each Other’s Burdens

TODAY’S VERSE
“Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2 (NASB)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
If I was asked to describe Christianity using only one word, I would choose the word, “love”. John tells us that God is love. It is His love that makes mercy and grace possible. Is it no wonder then, if we are really going to fulfill what Christ wants us to do, we must bear each other’s burdens? Bearing a burden means to take that burden on as if it was your own. We are called to help the wounded, love the hurting and to do whatever it takes to help those that are overburdened. If we don’t, who will? Who else is called to do this? It is this love of Christ, lived out by us in community, that is the mark of true Christianity. And if community is going to work, then each of us must prefer others to ourselves. We must put the needs of others above ourself. Jesus set the example. His whole life exemplified sacrificial love. So must ours. Today, ask God to help you sense when someone needs help. Ask Him to help you bear their burden.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so grateful that You have borne every one of my burdens. Give me a heart like yours and the filling of Your Spirit so I might love in the way You have loved me.
AMEN
