Praise God

Praise God

TODAY’S VERSE
“With all my heart I praise the LORD, and with all that I am I praise his holy name! With all my heart I praise the LORD! I will never forget how kind he has been. The LORD forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, and protects us from death.”
Psalms 103:1-4 (CEV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get wrapped up in our everyday situations that we take all that God is doing for granted. Our hearts start to shrivel at the lack of praise in our life and then we read a passage like todays. You can sense how David’s heart was full of praise toward God for all His love and kindness. When I read, “With all my heart I praise the LORD, and with all that I am I praise his holy name! With all my heart I praise the LORD!” it was like air to the lungs of a suffocating person. I could feel my soul gasp for the spiritual air just like a person does when they are resuscitated. My heart longs to worship Him, to sit in His presence and remember how kind He has been. To muse on all the forgiveness He has showered me with. To praise Him for healing and protecting me. It is not too late. Today, I can remember. Today, I can praise Him with all my heart. And so can you. Today, let us praise Him together.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I praise You for all Your kindness. How I praise You for forgiving me. How I praise You for Your protection. You are worthy of all my praise. I praise Your Holy name.
AMEN

A Word Of Encouragement

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes we are tempted to forget. Perhaps it is the darkness; life’s circumstances with its mystery that causes our lapse of memory. Could it be our haste, all the interruptions, deadlines and pressures of everyday life that crowds out our remembrance? Whatever the reason, today cast your eyes upon this treasure. Feast your senses on this thought, “The Lord, YOUR God, is with you!” Not only that, comfort yourself with the fact that “He is mighty to save you.” But what should radiate joy deep in your heart is the fact that “He takes great delight in you!” Finally, if you still aren’t moved, meditate on this truth, “He will quiet you with His love.” What peace He offers you this moment. And if you quiet yourself and use your imagination, you can picture the magnificent conclusion that Zephaniah offers, “God, our own Heavenly Father, is right this moment singing and rejoicing over you.” Believe it, it is true.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh, my dear Lord and Father. Who am I that You would rejoice over me with singing? That you take delight in me is so much to comprehend. But You have said it and now I choose to believe it. Thank You, dear Father. Thank You for Your love for me. Help me live today in the reality of this truth. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Who Have You Been With?

TODAY’S VERSE
“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
Acts 4:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever noticed how deeply influenced we can be by those that we spend time with? Reading books by the same author will deeply influence you to their way of thinking. People who have been married for a long time become more and more alike. A student becomes much like their favorite teacher and a disciple of martial arts much like their sensei. Today’s passage tells us that those that were arresting Peter and John were astonished at how much influence Jesus had on these men. How about you? Can your family tell who you have been spending time with? Who do those at your work believe you are inspired by? Today, start to build a deeper relationship with Christ. Spend time with Jesus and let Him influence your mind and behavior. Let Christ teach you, guide you and direct your path. When you do, others will be astonished and be able to tell you have been with Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I want to spend time with You. I want my life to be permeated with You so that others may recognize it and desire the same thing for their life. Teach me, guide me, mold me I pray. In Jesus name. AMEN

The Journey

TODAY’S VERSE
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:27 (KJV)

“Peter asked Jesus, ‘What about him, Lord?’ Jesus replied, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”’
John 21:21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Life is a journey with many twists and turns. And it is different for each of us. None of us travel the same road. If we are going to live the way He desires, we have to be willing to follow Him. Now Jesus could have easily waved His hand and turned everyone in His presence into drones so we could live out prescribed actions. But instead, God desires us to use our own free will and follow Him day by day. In his book “Sacred Companions”, David Benner writes, “It is impossible to specify precisely the route that has to be followed in a soul’s journey of transformation. This is because rather than following a map, in this journey we follow a person – Jesus. Jesus does not tell us where to go; He simply asks us to follow Him.” Jesus compared us to sheep. He said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” When worried whether John’s journey was going to be similar to His, Jesus rebuked Peter and said, “What is that to you? As for you, follow me.” It is the same for us today. We don’t need to be concerned with others and what God has for them. All we have to do is get to know God, try to understand the purposes He has for us and begin to follow Him. Today, obey His command to “follow me” and seek God’s direction for your journey.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me follow You. Give me the wisdom, courage and understanding I need to participate in the journey You have for me.

AMEN

Seek His Kingdom

TODAY’S VERSE
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 14:17 (NIV)

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get trapped into this world’s system. Look at all the stress that comes because of the pressure to succeed, to be seen as significant, to be accomplished according to the world’s standard. Where did that all come from? When did we let ourselves get so duped into following such a ridiculous system? Paul says that the Kingdom of God is not a matter of this world system but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. I could write more but I would rather Jesus say it. Might God bless the reading of His teaching, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? – But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, forgive me for serving two masters. I say, “I love You” and yet I live as this world is all that really matters. I worry so much about things. Please help really understand what You mean to live in Your kingdom. Help me not to worry about this life but choose to love You instead. In Your name, Lord Jesus.
AMEN

Be Filled With The Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”
Ephesians 5:15-18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We don’t know much about the Holy Spirit. We get saved, understand that we have the Holy Spirit and then get busy with life. We never take advantage of the relationship that we have with the Holy Spirit. But we cannot afford to be passive any longer. We were not meant to function without the aid of the Holy Spirit. Paul says we should be “filled” with the Holy Spirit. What does this mean? The key is in the comparison to being drunk on wine. There is only one way to get drunk. You get drunk by being “filled” with alcohol until the amount that you consume has you under its influence. This is not a casual drink that is in moderation. This is in excess to where you become drunk. So what is he saying about our life in the Spirit? Paul says let us have the same insatiable appetite for the guidance and fellowship of the Holy Spirit that a person does that chooses to get drunk on wine. When we meditate on God’s word, pray and commune with the Holy Spirit, we will begin to be “filled” or “under the influence” of the Holy Spirit’s leading in our daily living. It is interesting, however, that the tense is not a “one time” filling, but actually means “be filled and keep on being filled.” You do not get drunk on wine once for the rest of your life. The effect of the wine soon dissipates. To continually be drunk you have to continually drink the wine. Although the Holy Spirit does not leave us, in order to stay “filled” or influenced by the Holy Spirit, we need to continually stay in communication and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Isn’t it time that we begin to experience all the ways that the Holy Spirit wants to help us?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, please forgive me for ignoring Your presence in my life. I ask You to guide me, lead me, commune with me and to fill me so that I am completely influenced by Your presence. I invite You to take control of my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Mind and Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:15-16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
William Backus, in his book “Learning To Tell Myself The Truth” writes, “Sadly, misbeliefs, whether verbal or visual, are the direct cause of emotional turmoil, maladaptive behavior, and most self-destructive behavior, such as overeating, smoking, lying, substance abuse, or adultery, to name a few. The consequences of misbeliefs do, indeed, lead to “Despair, and other great shame and vice.” Because of the power of verbal and visual misbeliefs, we need to protect our heart and our mind. Paul shares how can do this. First he says that we are to let the peace that comes from knowing Christ rule in our hearts. The heart is where our emotions, imagination, visualizations, dreams and aspirations come from. We need to let Christ rule in each of these areas. He should fill our imaginations, dreams and visions with His peace. Satan sure uses our imagination. Have you ever noticed that you fear in technicolor, surround sound and 3-D? It is the same with anger, hopelessness and any other of our negative emotions. Our imagination goes wild. Instead, we need to let Christ’s peace fill our hearts. We need Him to be the Lord of our imagination. Second, Paul writes, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” It is the word of God that challenges and help correct any negative core beliefs. As His word dwells in our minds we begin to see it spill over into our belief system. This happens through admonishing one another with all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Today give God both your heart and your mind. Let Him be the Lord of your thoughts and imagination.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please let Your peace rule in my heart. Also, let Your word dwell in my mind. Help me admonish others with all wisdom, and sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in my heart to God. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Help Me Rejoice

TODAY’S VERSE
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What qualifications do you put on happiness? So many times it seems as if we put conditions on whether or not we are going to rejoice. We must be liked. We must be successful. We must have the admiration of others. We have to have the right kind of car, house, clothes before we can really find happiness. But what if things were taken away from us? We lose our job. A friendship tanks. We face bankruptcy. Then what happens to our peace, joy or happiness? Somehow Habakkuk found the secret. It was in his relationship with God. He was able to trust in Him no matter what. He had trust in God and when troubles began to brew, he was able to trade trust in for hope. Finally, when times were at its worst, hope was exchanged for joy. Listen to what he said, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” This didn’t happen by accident. Habakkuk had a deep relationship with God. Today begin with trust. Trust Him with everything you have and everything you need. Trust Him with today, tomorrow and the future. Then over time your trust will turn into hope. Then when you need it, just like Habakkuk, you will find that your hope will turn into joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to trust You in all things. Help me to put my hope in You. Help me to rejoice in You no matter what happens. I pray this in Jesus name.
AMEN

Seek Him With All Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever lost something of great importance to you? This is different than looking for something that you don’t care much about. When it is important to us, it is amazing to see how focused we can get. This is how it is with God. He spoke to His people through the Prophet Jeremiah, admonishing them that the only way they would really find God was when they involved their heart. Notice, Jeremiah did not say, “when you seek him with your whole intellect.” It is not  knowing “about” God; it is about “knowing God” in a deep and intimate way. God is saying that if you would get passionate about Him, then you will begin to find Him. How intent are you on knowing God? Begin today by seeking Him with your whole heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today. I really do want to know You. I want to have a deep intimate relationship with You. Help me discipline myself to take the time to know You. Take the time to hear You. Take the time to tell You my thoughts, hopes and dreams. To share with You my fears, apprehensions and doubts. As I seek You this way, that is with all my heart, I pray that You would reveal more and more of Yourself to me.
AMEN
