I Will Be With You

TODAY’S VERSE
And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:20

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When God says, “I will be with you,” it is not a religious phrase, it is a reality that brings us comfort, strength, and hope. When there was a famine in the land, God told Isaac to stay in the land for “I will be with you”. When Jacob was in danger, God told him to return to his homeland and said, “I will be with you”. When God commissioned Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses shared how he felt that he was incompetent. God said to do it anyway because “I will be with you”. When God asked Joshua to take over for Moses and lead the people into the Promised Land, He told Joshua, “As I was with Moses so I will be with you.” God asked Gideon to lead His people into battle and Gideon was afraid and asked God, “How can I rescue Israel?” God said, “I will be with you.” When Jesus was leaving earth to return to God’s right hand and commissioned the church to make disciples, He promised, “I will be with you always.” Life has its trials. God has commissioned you and me to serve Him. The tasks may be difficult. We may face trials, temptations, and struggles but take comfort in this, even today, God is with you. He will never, never, never leave you or forsake you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your ever-abiding presence. Thank You for the comfort I find in the fact that You are with me. Today, make me keenly aware that nothing can separate me from You. Help my heart be filled with faith in the reality that You will never leave me or forsake me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Fulfill Your Purpose

TODAY’S VERSE
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
II Thessalonians 1:11-12

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Did anyone ever ask you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Or have you ever taken a test to help you determine your passions and purpose in life? You could spend your whole life trying to find your purpose, that perfect job or the fulfillment of your childhood dream and never come close to what Paul was praying for the Christians in Thessalonica. What a magnificent prayer. The good news is that you can pray the same thing for yourself. God has called you to serve Him, and you can pray with Paul, “that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.” Can you imagine that? You see, this is God’s true desire for you, to use His power to help you fulfill every good purpose of yours. The result is that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in your life! So, what good purpose do you have today? What act prompted by your faith will you engage in today? Might God empower you by His grace to do all that He has called you to this day so that He will be glorified.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You can fulfill every good purpose of mine and every act prompted by my faith! What an exciting thought. Please help me understand what this really means in my life. Help me not to waste this precious life You have given me. Might I live it today for Your glory. In Jesus’name.
AMEN

Praise God

TODAY’S VERSE
Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us celebrate, let us rejoice, let us give him the glory!
Revelation 19:6-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How excited are you about knowing God? You would think we would be ecstatic, but instead our joy is minimal. I have seen sports fan get more excited about their teams wining a championship than most churches do during worship. This is because in reality most of us only know about God. Sure, we have asked Him to be our Savior, but we haven’t taken the time to really know Him. We know nothing of His power, wisdom or glory. How then can we say with John, “The Lord our God, the Almighty reigns”? If we are going to celebrate God, if we are going to rejoice because of Him, then we need to know God in a deep and personal way. This will only happen if we spend time in His presence. In His presence He will reveal Himself to us. In His presence we will learn of His power, wisdom and His glory. In His presence we will learn to praise, celebrate and rejoice in Him. So today stop everything. Stop and for one moment become conscious of His presence and consider who He is. Sense that He is the Almighty one. Feel how worthy He is of all our praise. For just a moment consider how great He is and then know this; He loves you! The Almighty One loves you, so go ahead, celebrate, rejoice and give Him the glory!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for not appreciating You enough. You are the Almighty One and You reign on high. I rejoice that I know You and come to You with joy and celebration. You are worthy of all my praise and I give You all the glory.
AMEN

Everlasting Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Long ago the LORD said to Israel: ‘I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.
Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to accept God’s love. We are taught from a young child to do good. If we do good, if we get good grades, make sports teams we will be liked by people. It sets us up to believe that love is “earned,” not given freely. Worst, some learn that love can be taken away. Is it a wonder that the love of God gets lost in the translation? In his book “The Deeper Journey”, author M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “We fear that we might not be valued. If our false self’s identity is rooted in our performance, then our value must necessarily be rooted in how well we perform. Consequently, our false self attempts to perfect our performance, at least in our own estimation.” Is this not where fear and anger rise up amongst us? We are afraid that someone else’s success will rob us of value. Does not anger rise up inside us when we find something getting in the way of what we think we must have or do in order to be appreciated and loved? Instead, God has told us Himself that He has loved us with an everlasting and unfailing love. Everlasting in that it never ends. It is unquenchable, unconditional, and undeserving. It is unfailing because nothing will stop it from reaching its objective. We are the object of God’s love and nothing will stand in the way of Him expressing that love to us. So today, rejoice in the love that God has for you. Let the joy of His undying love for you cast away all of your fear and anger.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that I am valued and loved. Thank You that I do not have to earn it. Help me today to really get my thoughts around Your unconditional love for me. it.
AMEN

Your Testimony

TODAY’S VERSE
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
I Peter 3:15 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is something about a testimony that touches people deep in their heart. It is a powerful spiritual force. Sure it is important to share the scriptures. We need to tell the gospel story. But we also need to share with others the reality of Christ in our life. You may think, my story is not as dramatic as, “I once was blind but now I see.” Yet has not God allowed you to “see” peace in the midst of despair? Has not God provided the food that you eat? Has He not given you another day to live? People are looking for a God that is alive. A God that is relevant to everyday issues. Issues like the ones you face. Today witness with the love you have to those around you, and when you can, share how meaningful prayer, the scriptures and God is to the many different facets of your life. Many will come to know Christ better as they see the gospel according to your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me share today with someone who needs to know You. Help me share how You effect my life. Help others see in You in the way I live. Help me be ready to give to anyone who asks, the hope I have in You.
AMEN

Fear Not

TODAY’S VERSE
But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!”
Mark 7:50 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus told the Disciples to take their boat to the other side of the Lake. While they were on their way a large storm came down upon them. They were afraid enough by the storm, but then they thought they saw a ghost when Jesus came walking on the water to their boat around 3:00 am! They were terrified. Jesus, seeing their fear doesn’t rebuke them but rather says to them, “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!” He would say the same to you. What storm of life has you shaking in the back of the boat? What is keeping you up at three in the morning? Today, hear Jesus say to you, “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, You know those things that frighten me. Help me take courage today knowing that you are with me.
AMEN

God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Ephesians 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“The Grand Canyon is not such a big hole!” Who would say something like that? A person who has never been there. Pictures don’t do it justice. Even though it is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide and over a mile deep it is hard to comprehend for someone who has never been there. Paul is saying the same thing about God’s love. How do we get our heads around it? What if we know very little about feeling loved? What if we have a hard time believing we are lovable? We have never been there so how big a deal can it really be? That is why Paul prayed for the Ephesians. He prayed that they could have God’s power to understand how massive God’s love really is. And truthfully, the only way you will comprehend the vastness of it is to visit it. The word that Paul uses for “understand or comprehend” means to grab a hold of it really tight. Paul is asking us to come to this Grand Canyon of God’s love and soak it in. Walk around. See it, smell it, hear it, know it. And the best way is to do that is with a guide. Today, ask the Holy Spirit to help you on this quest. Ask Him to help you comprehend how wide, how long, how high and how deep the Holy Father’s love for you really is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please give me the power to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love really is.
AMEN
