Your Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant—I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.”
Psalms 73:21-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear of abandonment is a real issue for many people. Those of us who are people pleasers suffer with this feeling all the time. So how comforting is it when God assures us that He will never leave us? Here is the Psalmist. He was bitter, foolish and ignorant to God. But when He came to his senses he saw how bad he was before God. The amazing truth is that God did not give up on him or leave Him. Instead He forgave him, comforted him, counseled him and continued to guide him. God’s love caused him to write one of the most beautiful verses ever written about God. “Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Today, might we believe this for our own self.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I don’t always live the way I should. I know many days my attitude is all wrong. But today I know You forgive me. I know that You will never abandon me. I know that You are committed to my maturity. Help me remember this as I live out this day.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Comfort is only as good as the source the comfort. What comfort is it for someone who is in the same situation you are, powerless themselves, to tell you, “It will be okay.”? The only way you would be comforted is if they point to a greater source than themselves and encourage you to take comfort in that source. The word comfort actually means to “come next to.” It wasn’t a mental comfort; it was an actual comfort coming from someone who had the power to comfort you. Like the police officer who says, “You are safe now.” The Doctor who says, “Your test came back negative, you will be okay.” Paul is encouraging the early church to be comforted by God Himself. He writes, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles.” Are you troubled today? Come next to God, let Him comfort you. Are you weary and don’t know what to do? Move toward God, lean upon Him, let Him wrap you in His arms. He will comfort you. Are you at the end of yourself, too frozen to move? Turn your head in His direction, whisper with your thoughts, He will hear you. He is the merciful Father and the source of all comfort. Today, come next to Him and be comforted.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am coming next to You. I need Your arms, I need Your face, I need Your voice. Comfort me, dear merciful Father of all comfort. Strengthen my arms, give courage to my legs, help my head lift up toward the light.  Here I am, comfort me I pray.
AMEN

No Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Psalms 23:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear can cripple us. It is an insidious cancer of the mind that eats away at our opportunities in life. Why is this? I am convinced that it is because we fear with our inner-child or some other traumatized part of ourself. We have unresolved memories that need to be dwelt with by Christ. Now it is true that we are to have “child-like” faith, but nowhere are we taught to have child-like fear. This is an immature state-of-mine. All we see is the terror and fear that we had when we were more defenseless. Instead, we are to face our situations as mature adults looking through the eyes of Jesus. As an adult in Christ we are not defenseless. We have all the power and love of Christ at our disposal. We can trust Him and step out in faith. Today, examine your own fears. Are they the result of some left over issue from the past? Ask Christ to come and comfort you like He did David. Ask Him to renew your mind and to heal that part of you that is in bondage. Remember, He is with you, He will comfort you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know me. I come now and lay my fears at Your feet. Heal me, help me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.”
Psalms 40:17 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every once in a while we need comfort don’t we? The news is worst than we thought, the pain is overwhelming, the pressure is tough, the fearful thoughts are relentless. What are we to do? The Psalmist remembers God. We should too. We should remember that God thinks of us. He is our help and deliverer and even though we are poor and needy, God’s hand can still extend to our aid. In II Corinthians 1:3-5 Paul writes, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” Do you know God as your merciful Father? You can today. Come to Him, let Him comfort you. He knows your need, He will be your help and deliverer. And when He does comfort you, you can go and comfort others in the same way God comforted you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You, poor and needy. Help me today. Comfort me and help me comfort someone else in the same way You did me.
AMEN

Blessing

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.”
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Usually after the worship service a Pastor will give a benediction. It is a blessing pronounced upon the congregation. A blessing meant to help people have faith and hope in their Christian experience until they meet again. Of course a benediction itself has no magical powers. It is not meant to be a magic chant. Rather it is an pronouncement of God’s strength, provision and ability to guide and protect us during our mission in this world. Paul wrote many wonderful benedictions. Being so far from his churches that he loved he would write wonderful blessing in order to bring joy and hope in the Lord for all those he loved. In today’s passage, Paul is pronouncing a blessing of comfort and strength upon the church. Power and strength from God in every good thing that they will do and say. Does this sound like something you would want? Today, let God minister to your heart as you read apply this benediction to your life. “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love, grace, comfort and hope. I pray that today you would comfort and strengthen me in every good thing I do and say.
AMEN

Mercy

TODAY’S VERSE
“I cry out to the LORD; I plead for the LORD’s mercy. I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn.”
Psalms 142:1-3 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Have you ever felt overwhelmed? I talk to people everyday that feel that way. Divorce, hunger, disease, addictions, homelessness, debt, trauma, everyday people come to our church for help. And it should be that way. The church is God’s representative on earth. We should be telling everyone that God deeply cares about their personal affairs. David knew this. He was overwhelmed with life and all the challenges it had for him, yet he knew he could turn to the Lord. He cried out to God and plead for mercy. And God listened. Jeremiah attests to this. In Lamentations 3:22-24 Jeremiah writes, “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” What an overwhelming truth. God’s faithful love NEVER ends and His mercies NEVER cease. I can’t even begin to get my brain around that. And the beauty is, every morning I wake up, God is there, with all His love and mercy waiting for me. Today, when you need to, cry out to God. Pour out your complaints to Him. Tell Him all about your troubles. He has a brand new day’s worth of mercy and love waiting for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so glad I can come before You and share all my burdens. I am so grateful for Your mercy and faithfulness. Thank You that they never cease but are new every morning. Praise You Lord.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Stress is in all of our lives. There is pressure from all sides. Relationships, finances, health, how do we get any relief? Where can we go to get help? Paul knew. He wrote, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.” Paul was emphatic, God is compassionate. Not only compassionate but puts His compassion into action by comforting us. It is hard to pray sometimes. Will God heal? Will we find the answer we seek? We don’t know all the variables, we can’t always explain the way things turn out, but we can count on one thing. He will comfort! He will, in His great compassion, visit us and bring a comfort to our heart that is supernatural. More than that, God will orchestrate many of His followers to comfort us as well. That is His plan. When we are comforted by His grace and mercy, God wants us to go and comfort others that He brings our way. We are to comfort others in the same way we were helped. But somehow we have forgotten this. Somehow the church has traded our role from hospital, shelter and sanctuary for a country club? We have all sorts of programs for ourselves, but we don’t bring comfort to the world. God has commanded us to take His love to the streets. That is what He did. Today, bring your own burdens to the Lord. Let Him comfort you. And when He does, go with the same compassion He had and go comfort someone else.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that You, in all of Your compassion, would comfort me in my struggles. And as You do, I ask that You would bring people into my life that I could comfort in return. Thank You for Your love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Comfort and Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.”
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
God knows exactly what we need to make it in this life. He offers to us two indispensable tools for getting us through any of life’s situation. He gives us comfort and strength. Comfort calms us. Comfort gives us hope and encourages our faith. Comfort gives us the ability to trust God for the strength to press on. Strength to help us overcome obstacles. Strength needed for everyday life. God comforts with His hope and then He gives us the strength to press on. Today may God comfort your heart and mind and give you all the strength you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that You will give me all the comfort and strength I need for this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
