Worries

TODAY’S VERSE

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some translations say, “Give all your worries to God.” I like this version where it uses the word, “Cast”. If you picked up something that was burning hot, you do not hand it off! You cast it aside, you get rid of it. There is a sense of urgency. This is what God wants us to do with all our cares. All those things that bother us. We need to “cast it off!” Instead we worry. Worry is hanging on to them. It’s trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. It is taking on something we are not capable of handling. Instead God says, “Here I AM! Cast your troubles to me. I can handle it. I love you and will take are of you.” So today, cast all your cares on Jesus because He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your invitation to cast all my cares, troubles, concerns and worries on You. Today I give them to you. Thank You for caring for me.
AMEN

God As My Friend

TODAY’S VERSE
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
John 15:13-15
“The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.”
Exodus 33:11
“Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.”
James 2:23

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is an incredible concept that a God who created all the expanse of space; designed the most complicated systems; is beyond time and space; would create us, not as some impersonal piece of matter, but as a friend. A friend. We are fortunate if we go through life with four or five good friends. Jesus called His disciples friends. Why? Because He spent time with them. He knew them. He wants to do the same with us. If we are going to be a friend of God, then we must build a relationship. That doesn’t happen by just going to church. We need to fellowship, worship and hear the word of God but it is not enough. It doesn’t come by reciting creeds, as good as they are. It doesn’t come by reading about God, although this certainly gives us context. It doesn’t come by simply reading the Bible, although this is an indispensable part of relating to God. Friendship with God comes by spending time with Him. It comes through conversation with Him. It comes through an exchange of feelings, thoughts, concerns and aspirations. Try today to carve out some time to be alone with God. Share with Him; tell Him you want His friendship. Listen to Him, wait for Him and enjoy His presence.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know You and am known by You. We pass in life’s circumstances, but I must admit, I don’t know You well. I know in my head that You love me but I haven’t sensed a friendship with You in my heart. I want to be Your friend. I want to know You in a much deeper and more personal way. Help me to that end. Guide me into a friendship with You, I pray. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

God’s Power Is Our Strength

God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!”
Psalm 68:35 (NLT)

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of things that we need to make it through this life. Sometimes it is hard to ascertain what exactly to ask for. Today’s verse sets good guidelines to help us when we pray. First, God is awesome. We have every right to ask for His miraculous power to intervene in our situations. He is able to heal, change circumstances or to move in the hearts of people. We need to ask and expect God to be awesome on behalf of His people. And yet there is another side. Today’s verse also says that God gives power and strength to His people. Although we can ask God to show His love to others, has He not chosen you and I to be His love in this world? Paul wrote, “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” And who knew this better than David? After all, who slew Goliath? Was it David who picked up the stone and aimed at Goliath or God who directed the stone? David knew. He said to Goliath, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. – Today the LORD will conquer you and I will cut off your head.” God created you and I do be His ambassadors in this world and He gives us the strength and power to do His will. What a magnificent plan, God with His power working with and through us to do His will in this world. No wonder David ended saying, “Praise be to God!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I can’t live the life You want me to without Your power. Nor do I want to try. I come today and ask You to guide me, direct me, and fill me with Your power and strength. And may You show Yourself strong through all I say and do. To You be all the Glory!
AMEN

Forgive Me

TODAY’S VERSE
“Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.”
Psalms 65:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sin happens. Especially sin that is the result of your emotions. Your senses pick up something is wrong and a chemical reaction sparks a primary emotion in the limbic region of your brain. Before you can think about it, your secondary emotions begin to flood your mind. Worry turns to fear, fear to anger, anger to depression and on and on. Then to make it worse, your thinking comes on line and you try to alleviate all this pain by taking the easy way out. And the easy way out usually involves sin. Some use addictions, others avoidance, some lash out in anger, and some hide behind pride. Whenever our emotions start flooding our brains, we will do whatever it takes to make the pain go away. David knew what it was like. He had emotions. He became overwhelmed by his situations and like us, he reacted in ways that were not Godly. So much so, that his sins began to overwhelm him. He was on a downward spiral, spinning out of control. But David found out the answer. He turned to God. Not just for a temporary fix, but for the cure. He turned to God, confessed his wrongdoing and God forgave him for everything. God wants to do the same for you. Today, come to God. Turn over your emotions to Him. Confess your sin and be forgiven and you can shout like David, “Though I was overwhelmed by my sins, God forgave them all.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I get so overwhelmed with all my sin. The pressures, the pain, the negative critical thinking that constantly drags me down; I bring it all to You. Forgive me for all my sins. Heal me. Take away my guilt and set me free. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Forget The Past

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have not achieved it (perfection), but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
Philippians 3:13-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul started the whole “No perfect people allowed” movement! He knew the pressure that Christians were getting from the religious people. Get circumcised, follow the commandments, obey the law. Paul knew that this was a trap. He knew that there were two kinds of people that miss God’s standard of perfection. Those that say they do and those that pretend they don’t. Paul did not have to pretend to be perfect; he had a better way! He forgot his sin. Paul knew his struggle. He knew his shortcomings but instead of putting on the pretence of perfection, he focused on one thing: “Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.” How about you? There comes a time when you have to make a choice. Are you going to let the past dictate your life or your future? Follow Paul’s example, “I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, you know my past better than I do and yet You are willing to forgive. Help me to do the same. Help me to forgive and forget the past and focus on what’s ahead. Help me live in the present reality of Your love and forgiveness and then press on toward living my life for You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Wait On God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.”
Psalms 62:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so hard to wait sometimes. We are so driven. Burdens, passions, ambitions all take turns moving us from moment to moment, barely leaving us time to breathe. Even when we don’t have pressing needs, we fill our time with busyness. And when we aren’t hurried on the outside, we are spinning around and around inside, deep in the recesses of our mind. Thoughts out of control, emotions hammering us, voices commanding us to keep going, keep moving. All the while our soul is crying out for rest. And all the time God is waiting to give it to us. He desires us to stop and know Him. David knew this so he forced himself to stop and wait. He wrote, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God.” And why? Why did David do this? Because he knew God was his only hope of peace. He declared, “My hope is in Him.” It can be the same for you. Today choose to stop the madness. Stop the busyness. Instead choose to wait, wait quietly before God. Know Him, love Him, fellowship with Him. As you do, you will find your hope in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I have been so busy that I haven’t taken the time I should to be with You. Help me change. Help me as I seek to wait for You. Help me as I attempt to quiet my heart. Help me hear Your voice. Help me see Your face. Help me find my hope in You.
AMEN

Love The Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“I love you, LORD; you are my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.”
Psalms 18:1-2

TODAY’S MESSAGE
As King of Israel, David knew conflict. He knew war. He knew what it was like to be outnumbered, to face armies that had superior weapons and others that had giants. David was no stranger to danger. But David also knew God. He trusted in God and depended on Him for his very survival. In this Psalm, David says that God is his strength, rock, fortress, savior, protection, shield, power that saves and place of safety. But even more than knowing God, David loved God. Look how he starts this meditation. “I love you, Lord.” When is the last time you quieted your heart before God, rested in His arms and let Him know that you love Him? You may be facing trials, conflicts and horrific situations. If so, today you can cry out to God and He will indeed be your strength, rock, fortress, savior, protection, shield, power that saves and place of safety. But in the midst of all that is going on in your life, be sure to find time to do what David did. Tell God you love Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, “I love You.” I just want to stop everything now and say it again, “I love You, Lord.” I commit my life to You today and thank You that You are indeed my strength, rock, fortress, savior, protection, shield, power that saves and place of safety. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

A Word From God

TODAY’S VERSE

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
John 14:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get in the habit of reading the “word of God” without getting a “word from God.” There is a big difference. The Pharisees knew the word. Satan quoted it. But God’s word is meant for more than just reading. Paul wrote in a letter to Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Jesus said that He gave us the Holy Spirit in order to personalize His word to each of us. He said, “He will teach you everything.” The author of the Hebrews wrote, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” So when we come to the word of God, let us remember that we are coming to God and ask Him to speak to us, move in our heart and show us His will. Today, don’t settle for the word of God, get a word from God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your wisdom. I need Your instruction. I need Your assurances. As I come to Your word, open my eyes, open my heart that I may hear Your voice and understand what You want to say to me.
AMEN

Heal My Inner Self

TODAY’S VERSE
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7:7-11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We worship the God of the Universe. The cosmos and everything in it is under His control. But there is another universe that needs His rule as well. A universe that needs His power, His presence so desperately but can only be entered upon by invitation. It is our inner world. The world of who we really are. The world where we store our core beliefs, our inner thoughts and our emotions. It is this world that so desperately needs the touch of God. It is in our inner world that we need to ask, seek and knock for peace, joy and the filling of the Holy Spirit. It is in our inner world that we need the hope that, if we as evil parents know how to give good gifts to our children, surely God will give many more good gifts to those of us who ask. In her book, “The Healing Presence” Leanne Payne writes, “Personhood, identity, being itself come from Him as our hands and hearts are open to receive. Focused on Him, we climb up and out of the hell of self and self-consciousness. Listening to the words He speaks, we are freed from the words that emanate from our unhealed hearts, from the unhealed hearts of our fellow creatures, or from the powers of darkness: those that accuse and tempt us toward separation and death. In listening to the words that come from God, we become all we were created to be.—God the Father, who has the Power of Being, heals and affirms us. By fiat He spoke the worlds into existence, by fiat He can and does create in us a new and solid sense of being.” Today, ask God to do a work in your inner self. Seek with all your heart, to be filled with His presence and peace. Knock upon the Father’s door, seeking His fellowship, His love. May His very presence flood you with a deep sense of purpose and eternal mission.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You said that I can ask anything of You. You are the giver of good gifts and I come today asking that You would do a mighty work on my inner person. Guide me, save me, heal me, teach me, lead me. Help me today to become all that You created me to be. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love Each Other

TODAY’S VERSE
“So now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.”
I Peter 1:22

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Love is the direct result of knowing Christ. He loves us so much that loving others is a by product of His example. He paid a terrible price that we could have our sins forgiven. And what does God ask for in return? Does he ask us to swim the ocean? Walk across the longest desert? Climb the highest mountain? No, He asks that we love one another. Why would this be so important? Because our love for each other is a testimony that He is real. Our love for others proves His life changing power is real. In John 13:35 Jesus said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” The power of the Holy Spirit alive in our heart is never more noticeable then when we are loving another brother or sister in the Lord. Do you know Christ as your personal Savior? Is He the Lord of your life? If so, prove it to the world by sincerely loving those other Christians you know. Love them deeply with all your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. Help me love those others that you have around me. Might my sincere love for my Christian brothers and sisters permeate my life so that others might recognize that You are alive. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
