Transformation

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we – are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
II Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God is in the transforming business. I have seen it over and over again. God transformed Joseph’s situation. Joseph told his brothers, decades after they sold him to slave traders, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” Terry Wardle, in his book “Wounded,” writes about the transforming process he went through with the Holy Spirit, “I have experienced the healing hand of God, times of sweet intimate communion, and hard days when He seemed silent and uninvolved. – But of this I am sure: God has used these events to transform my life! – I can testify without hesitation that it is true – in God’s hands the object of one’s greatest pain does become the source of one’s greatest blessing.” There is freedom in Christ and He desires to transform you and I more and more into His likeness. Today bring your cares, burdens, and situations to Him and let Him begin to transform them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I ask that You transform my bondage into Your freedom. Transform my pain into Your blessing. Transform my life into Your likeness. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S VERSE
“And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you.”
Romans 8:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some phrases have the power to change everything about the way we live. Today’s verse has that ability. Paul is saying that when we came to Christ, we became a child of God and were indwelled by the Holy Spirit. Not just any Spirit but our Almighty God’s Spirit. And when that happened, the power of this life-giving Holy Spirit freed us. The Holy Spirit frees us from eternal death, condemnation and the power of sin in our life. We are free from our own selfishness and the bondages and strongholds we find ourselves in. God’s mighty Spirit frees us from temptation, emotional distress and the pain of our past. The loving and compassionate Spirit intercedes for us, freeing us from shame and guilt. The indwelling Holy Spirit frees from the limitations others have put on us, frees us to rise above our circumstances and become all that He created us to be. Through the filling of the Holy Spirit, we are free to live the life He has called us to. So today, acknowledge your new birth right. Invite the power of the life-giving Holy Spirit to control your life. He will, and when He does, you will be free.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, how I praise You for Your indwelling Holy Spirit in my life. I ask to be filled and controlled by the Spirit. Fill me, free me, guide me and direct me I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Sin

TODAY’S VERSE
“Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.”
Psalms 65:3 (NLT)

“But where sin increased, grace increased all the more.”
Romans 5:20 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to think that the Psalmist was being presumptuous. How can we know that God will forgive our sins? Paul knows. He writes “Where sin increased, grace increased all the more.” However, the very next words he writes are, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means!” Paul was saying that God’s grace in forgiving us is not a “get out of jail free” card so we can sin anytime we want. On the contrary, Paul explains that grace has set us so free in Christ that we are no longer slaves to sin. In “True Faced” the authors write, “The environment of grace provides me with truth, acceptance, healing, safety, perspective, freedom, and the power that I did not before know; these realities are foundational to resolving my sin issues.” They go one step further in writing that God desires not only to forgive but to work on our sin with us. They write, “What if we took responsibility for the fact that we are the ones who sinned, and then with God at our side turn to trust His provision for the very sin that we’ve just committed?” God’s grace does just that. He forgives us and then helps us live for Him. Today, don’t run and hide from God. Talk to Him about sin issues in your life. Though you are overwhelmed, He will forgive. He will help you. His grace is greater than your sin.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the death and resurrection of Your son Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your forgiveness, mercy and grace. Guide me, direct me, work with me, by Your grace to help resolve the sin issues in my life.
AMEN
