Lord LORD

TODAY’S VERSE
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?”
Luke 6:46 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to speak half truths. It is easy to say what people want us to say. We are taught that truth is relative and can be bent to each situation. So how does this attitude play out when we are talking about commitment? What exactly is loyalty? Jesus asked this in His day. People were beginning to follow Him just for the miracles or food and not for the new Spiritual reality He was teaching. What was worst, however, was the fact that people said that they were followers of Christ and yet ignored His words. He compared this to a person who was building a house. Jesus insisted that if you are going to build a house, build it on a good foundation. Likewise, if you are going to build a life worth living, then it must be built on a good foundation of the teachings and person of Jesus Christ. Jesus was right. He said that you can call Him a lot of things, but if you are going to call Him Lord, you have to do what He says.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me understand more about following You. Be the Lord of my life and help me build my life on a solid foundation of Your word. AMEN

Walk The Talk

TODAY’S VERSE
“But all they gave him was lip service; they lied to him with their tongues.”
Psalms 78:36 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to give “lip service”. How often do we do it in our relationships? We say, “I love you” and then treat the object of that love horribly. James writes, “Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, ‘Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well’—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?” Likewise, it is easy to praise God with our lips but dishonor Him with our lives. It is so easy to say, “We love you, Lord” and not do what He says. Praise God for our ability to repent and His grace to forgive. His mercies are new every morning and we can come to Him with a clean slate and live this new day in harmony between our lips and our heart. May it be so.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know that there are so many times that I give you lip service only. I talk the talk but neglect to walk the walk. Forgive me for my hypocrisy. Oh Holy Spirit, help me live as Jesus lived, in Spirit and in truth.
AMEN

Remain In Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity is a way of life. It is so much more than church on Sunday and a few “quiet times.” God cares about our every moment. Our emotions, our thoughts, our actions. There is not a second in the day that God is not aware of us. He desires that we think that way about Him. He wants us to have a relationship with Him that is 24/7. In his book, “Walking With God,” John Eldredge writes about key central issues in Christianity. He believes that the heart is central to the Christian life and that we are invited into a conversational intimacy with God. This is what Jesus was talking about. We remain in Him with our heart not our head. He remains in us as we are involved with Him in conversational intimacy. It is a deep relationship, one that demands that we attune ourself to Him. He is there. And as we remain in Him and He remains is us, we will produce the spiritual fruit that we were born to produce. Why? He made us that way. Jesus said it right. He said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I realize that apart from You I can do nothing. Forgive me for cutting myself off from the deep intimacy that You desire. Revive my heart, I pray. Bring life back to my soul and help me remain in You. In Your matchless name I pray.
AMEN

Lord Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
“O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God!”
Psalms 25:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus has called us to follow Him. This is more than church attendance and weekly worship, Jesus wants us to be His disciples. David knew what this meant. He came to Jehovah God and said. “O Lord, I give my life to you.” God would ask the same of us. And it takes faith. We are choosing to take the only life we have and say, “Here, God, I know You gave me this life so I am giving it back, trusting that You have a plan for me. I believe You know best and I trust You.” That is what David did. He gave his life to God and said, “I trust in you, my God.” Today, do the same. Choose to trust God with your life. He created you, He has a plan for your life, He loves you. Make Him the Lord of your life and follow Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I choose to give my life to You. I want You to be the Lord of all I am and do. I trust You, Lord, and Your unconditional love for me.
AMEN

Lord Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?”
Luke 6:46 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a penetrating question. It is so easy to take on a role today and not have to really back it up. We can become a fan or spectator in almost anything today. With merchandizing, television and internet we can learn all about any topic we want. We can talk all about our favorite sport, even have a “fantasy team” and have never played a game. We can be a NASCAR fan and not have a drivers license. We can talk all about “curb appeal” and have the worst house on the block. It is easy today to be an “expert” and have no practical experience at all. Jesus knew what that was like. He had many followers and many of them did not really know what His real message was. They did not see the significance of what He taught. They thought they could “follow” Jesus, even call Him “Lord” and not do what He said. Jesus called them out on it and He does the same today. James said it well when he wrote, “Now someone may argue, ‘Some people have faith; others have good deeds.’ But I say, ‘How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”’ Jesus has called us to follow Him. Today, let’s not just call Him Lord, let’s live as if it is true.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I have called You Lord, and yet I know many times I have not lived the way You want me to. Help me, Lord. Help me live under the influence of Your Holy Spirit and do what Your word tells me to.
AMEN

Awestruck

TODAY’S VERSE
“When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, ‘Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.’ For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.”
Luke 5:8-9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Shocked, amazed, astonished, terrified, stunned, awestruck. When is the last time we reacted to God like that? Certainly He is worthy. It was fishing that brought Peter to this place. He was tired and frustrated because they tried all day and did not catch any fish. Yet Jesus asked Peter to go cast his nets out one more time. Peter was obedient and to his utter surprise God performed a miracle. The nets were completely full and Peter was completely undone. He could do nothing but drop to his knees and cry out before God, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” It’s that way we see the majesty of God, when we see a glimpse of His power, His love, His creativity and His holiness. But we need to be present to see it. Peter had to be in the boat. Had he not gone, he would have missed it. We need to be with Jesus if we are going to be awestruck. He invites us to come and fellowship with Him. We need to spend time talking to Him and listening for His instruction. When we focus on His constant presence throughout the day, He will guide us, He will direct our path. Today, be with Jesus. Worship Him. Listen to Him. And don’t be surprised if He asks you to obey Him by faith. When He does, you just need to obey like Peter and you, too, will end up awestruck at what He does.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank you for Your power and majesty. Thank You for Your guidance. Help me live for You today and obey all that You ask me to. I want to be awestruck by You.
AMEN

Dear Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”  Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Matthew 16:15-16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who do you think Christ was? Who do you think He is today? It matters what you think. Was He just a good moral teacher? Was He someone who did miracles back then, but not today? Is He something aloof, an object of our ritualistic worship, but not someone I can really relate to? Peter told the real story. He started as a fisherman leaving his nets behind to follow this promising teacher. It wasn’t long before He was overwhelmed by all that was going on. Jesus had incredible teachings that impressed even His biggest skeptics. No one taught with such authority. But more than the teachings were the miracles. People were rising from the dead. Blind men were seeing. The lame were walking. And the demons, they were fleeing at the mention of His name. Then there was His moral authority. No one had ever loved others the way He did. No one had ever taught about love in the way He did. Peter couldn’t help it. He had to say, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Me? I say He is my Lord and Savior, ruler of my life, redeemer of my soul, and the lover of my very being. He is my dear Jesus. Who is He to you?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for all You are. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for Your salvation. You truly are the Christ, the Son of the living God and I praise and worship You.
AMEN
