The Lord Almighty

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
Psalms 46:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is amazing to see the difference one sentence can make. Especially when it carries such an important message. But if this passage is such a revelation, why do most of walk around discouraged, overwhelmed and stressed out with life issues? What does it take to make a sentence go from the head to the heart? How can focusing on the reality of Almighty God in our life make a difference? How would waking tomorrow morning, conscious of what David is expressing in this verse, change our plans or behavior? What would you do different knowing that the Lord Almighty is right there with you? The reality is that God is with us. He is our fortress, He is Almighty. Might this truth sink in and cause us to live accordingly.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me aware of Your presence. Help me to see You in all Your power and glory. Help me trust You for everything I do this day. In Jesus name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I am aware of God’s presence.
Quiet your heart before God and pray, “Lord, I come to sense Your presence. Draw me close to You.”
You may want to close your eyes, or lift your hands or put your hands in front of you with palms facing upward. This “open” stance sets your mind to a readiness of acceptance.
Quietly whisper again, “Your presence Lord, let me sense Your presence.”
Now meditate on who He. He is love, goodness, truth, power and knowledge. Muse on each of these attributes and let the presence of God fill your heart.

What Do You Treasure?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God.”
Psalms 20:7

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:20-21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get our priorities mixed up. It seems that people are judged by the money they earn and the things they acquire. Even criminals are honored if they have the “rich and famous” lifestyle. Fame and fortune are the goals that we aspire to. The issue isn’t whether “riches” are good or bad. The issue is that there is something more important than our materialism. There is a spiritual reality that we need to be concerned about. Jesus told us to store “spiritual” treasures in heaven. David said not to boast in our earthy positions and pleasures but to “boast in the Lord.” Why is this important? Because what we treasure is a reflection of what we are inside. If we treasure God, it is because He has the affection of our heart. If we boast in the Lord, it is because we are pleased with our relationship with Him. Do we want to have a deeper, more satisfying relationship with God? Seek Him like we would gold. Go after Him like a lost treasure. Make Him the most valuable part of our life and our heart with follow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to treasure you more than gold. I want to love you more than my possessions. Help me to know you. Help me to experience your love. Help me love you more and more until I understand the valuable treasure your love really is.
AMEN

Our One True God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Israel is full of silver and gold; there is no end to its treasures. Their land is full of warhorses; there is no end to its chariots. Their land is full of idols.”
Isaiah 2:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This is one of the saddest passages in Scriptures. Think about it. Here is a picture of God’s people. They were blessed beyond belief. They had gold, silver, and more treasures than they could ever use. They had mighty armies. They had everything they could possibly want. And yet the passage says, “Their land is full of idols.” What was that about? How could they be so blessed by God and yet wander so far from Him? They wandered from God in the same way we do, one idol at a time. It comes in the form of small compromises in their spirituality. They didn’t give up their religion, instead they added to it. At least that is how they saw it. As they mingled with other nations, they began to let other influences creep in. Many, who were nominal in their allegiance to God, were easily swayed. Who said that a medium couldn’t speak for God? Who were they to say that the other prophets were wrong? Surely all roads led to a universal enlightenment and eventually to God Himself. Sound familiar? Today we have just as many influences. Our land is full of idols. Look around us. People are hungry for spirituality and there are all kinds of religions, mediums, magic, witches, spirit guides, mysticism, meditations and practices that try to fill that void. Examine your own heart. Are you dependant on the Holy Spirit and the word of God for your spiritual nourishment? Or have you let other influences creep into your spiritual life? Today, let us repent of any “idols” and live for and worship the one true God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for allowing other influences to come between me and You. You are the true and living God and there are no others. I come and pledge my worship and allegiance to You.
AMEN

His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.”
Psalms 42:8 (NLT)

“Either way, Christ’s love controls us.”
II Corinthians 5:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you passionate about?  What consumes you? What forces do you allow to shape your everyday experience? You have a choice you know. You can decide what you are going to allow to guide you. The Psalmist chose to look at life through the lens of God’s almighty love. His love is there everyday waiting for your discovery. Jeremiah said that God’s mercies are new every morning. Here the author says that every day God pours His unfailing love upon him. He couldn’t help but sing songs of praise and share life with Almighty God who gave him life. Paul shares how the “love of Christ” controlled him. Likewise, God’s love for you is unlimited. It is unfailing. His grace is sufficient for all you need in this life. Don’t go another day without it. How sad it would be to live your whole life in paradise and never go outside. Stop today, acknowledge His love, give Him your praise. Spend time with God and let His love control your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You for Your love. I thank You that Your love for me is unfailing. I ask that Your Holy Spirit would guide and direct my life and that the love of Christ would consume and control me. Thank You, Father, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Live For Him

TODAY’S VERSE
May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
II Thessalonians 1:11-12

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who are we that the almighty God of the universe would allow us to serve Him? Yet, that is what God has done. He specifically created us to love Him, worship Him and serve Him. But what is so amazing, is that He did not create us like robots and program us to serve Him or beat us down and force us to live for Him. No, He has drawn us toward Him by His grace. Grace, that mixture of His love, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, concern and favor, all rolled into one. It is His grace toward us that encourages our faith and compels us to live for Him. God pours His love into our heart and then empowers us to do whatever our heart desires. What has your faith in God prompted you to do for Him lately? If the answer is vague, it is not too late. God has grace enough to forgive you. He has grace enough to encourage you. He has grace enough to empower you. Come to God today and may your faith prompt you to accomplish good things for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You Lord for Your grace in my life. I pray that You will prompt me to do great things for You and then give me the power to do them. Father, might You be honored today in the way I live for You.
AMEN

Filled with The Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power.”
Luke 4:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I read today’s passage I can’t help but think, “If Jesus needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit, shouldn’t I be?” Paul writes about this very thing. He writes, “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” What does this mean? The key is in the reference to being drunk on wine. There is only one way to get drunk. You get drunk by being “filled” with alcohol until the amount that you consume has you under its influence. This is not a casual drink that is in moderation. This is in excess to where you become drunk. So what is he saying about our life in the Spirit? Paul says that instead of getting drunk with wine, let us have the same insatiable appetite for the guidance and fellowship of the Holy Spirit. When we meditate, read, pray and commune with the Holy Spirit enough, which is more than a casual occurrence of reading a few verses of scriptures, we will begin to be “filled” or under the influence of the Holy Spirit’s leading in our daily living. It is interesting, the tense is not a “one time” filling, but actually means “be filled and keep on being filled.” You do not get drunk on wine once for the rest of your life. The effect of the wine soon dissipates. To continually be drunk you have to continually drink the wine. In order to stay “filled” or influenced by the Holy Spirit, we need to continually stay in communication and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Today, recognize the work of the Holy Spirit and ask Him to fill you and guide you throughout this day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I recognize that it is Your desire to fill me and completely guide my life. I give You control. Come Holy Spirit, fill me I pray.
AMEN

Follow Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Simon son of John, do you love me?”
John 21:17 (NLT)

“Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
John 6:67 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God created us for a relationship. Yet, how many times do we get this concept all wrong? Instead we act as if we created God. Rather than a deep relationship with Him, we act as if it is God’s role to make us happy, to serve us, and to answer our every need. We live as if God was more of a personal concierge than our Lord and Savior. Jesus felt some of this same attitude from His own followers. Many were following Jesus because of all they were receiving. One particular day Jesus decided to challenge everyone on this issue by calling the crowd to a higher life of discipleship and many of the people decided to stop following Jesus. Jesus came back to His twelve disciples and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” After Jesus rose from the dead and was ready to return to Heaven, he met His disciples by the seashore. It was there he asked Peter, “Do you love me?” Simple questions but the answers make all the difference in the world. How would you answer Jesus? What would you say? What do your actions say? Today, commit yourself to Christ. Tell Him how much you love Him and decide to follow Him in all you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus. I know I have often followed You for selfish reasons. Forgive me. I come today to follow You. To serve you. To love You. Receive my worship and humble gratitude I pray.
AMEN
