Give God The Glory

TODAY’S VERSE
“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God – Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God.”
Deuteronomy 8:10-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have all heard stories about those that went through severe trial leaving them deeply hurt, dejected and wavering in their faith. Who of us would judge someone in such a tragic situation? Rather we pray and ask God to make Himself real to them in their time of sorrow. Yet what is far more common is the ordinary story of tens of thousands of Christians who, growing up in the faith, buy into the American dream, give in to materialism and become nominal in their faith. God warns us to be careful, very careful that when things go good that we do not forget Him. How could that happen you ask? Moses says it when we eat and are satisfied, build fine houses, settle down, earn income and end up becoming proud. We start to believe that it is our ability, our skills, our intelligence, our savvy that has produced all that we have. We fail to give God glory and soon our heart grows cold toward Spiritual things. There is hope for the wounded heart to be healed, but what hope is there for the callous, dried up heart? The only hope is to repent! Give God back His glory which you have stolen. Fall down before Him and praise Him for all that you have. Ask Him to renew your heart, to open your eyes to His goodness and give back all that you have to Him for His use. Make Him the Lord of your income and possessions. When you do, you will find that materialism will lose its hold on your heart and your soul will be free and alive with the love of God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, to think that I have created my own income, am master of my own possessions and the sole reason for my own success is to rob you of your glory. Forgive me when I forget that You are the giver of all good things. I give you back all that I have. Be Lord of everything I am and own. Help me to live my life for you and to give you praise and glory for every blessing you give me.
AMEN

Christ’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Christ’s love controls us.”
II Corinthians 5:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can let a lot of things control us. Fear, anger, lust, greed, pride are just a few emotions vying for the control of our heart. Negative emotions are powerful motivators. Regulating them is a full time job. But Paul knew the secret to returning to joy from negative emotions. He let the love of God fill his thoughts. He called upon the love of Christ for mercy and grace. Surrendering to Christ brought him peace and hope. This love of Christ is able to the same for you. Today, you can choose what will control you. Choose Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Christ, pour out Your love upon me. Fill me, guide me, direct me. Make me so conscious of Your love that I am under its control. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Heavenly Shepherd

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”
Psalms 23:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David wrote this famous Psalm from experience. As a young man, he spent his time shepherding a flock of sheep for his father. He knew the value of a shepherd to the flock. He also knew the value of knowing God. David writes that the shepherd provides all that the sheep need. David writes that God, like a shepherd, lets us rest in green meadows, leads us beside peaceful streams, renews our strength, and guides us along right paths. And like a shepherd, even in the darkest times God is right there close by our side, comforting us. With God as our shepherd, David concludes that goodness and unfailing love will pursue us as long as we shall live. I love the concept of the shepherd; it is being a sheep that I struggle with. Perhaps that is because I am not a sheep. I am human, and being so, I struggle surrendering my will to God. But even still, His love cuts through my pride. His love compels me to live for Him. It wins and woos me to surrender myself to His control. I can trust Him. I can lean on Him. I can be my needy self and know that God desires to shepherd me. It brings Him great joy. Today, respond to His love. Let Him be your shepherd.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for all Your care. Thank You for all You provide and do for You. You are my Heavenly shepherd and I gladly live for You.
AMEN

Humble Yourself

TODAY’S VERSE
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
I Peter 5:5-7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are complex beings. Behind our behavior are a labyrinth of beliefs, assumptions and attitudes. For example, if we have a need, you would think that we would automatically ask God for help. But instead, we get proud and see our need as a sign of weakness. People ask us “How are you?” and we say, “Fine!” We believe that having a need and asking for help would reduce our self image that we are fighting to protect. The Bible calls this kind of thinking “pride”. Peter writes:  “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” God knows our needs and He delights in our coming to Him. Peter verifies this when he writes, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Today, don’t let pride get in your way. Humble yourself and come to Christ with all your needs and He will care for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my needs. You are God Almighty and have promised that I can cast all my anxieties on You because You genuinely care for me. Thank You, Lord, for Your love. Thank You for Your gracious provision.
AMEN
