I Am Coming

TODAY’S VERSE
“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming.”’
Psalms 27:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. It is a relationship with a loving God that desires to fellowship with us. This was His design since the beginning. David knew this. The Bible says of David that he was a man, “after God’s own heart.” But when you consider today’s passage perhaps it would be better to say that God was a “God after David’s own heart.” David’s heart heard God saying, “Come and talk with me.” Do you hear the same? Do you sense that God is seeking you, that He desires to know you and for you to get to know Him? It’s true. God really does desire your love and affection. He desires for you to worship Him, spend time with Him and to love Him. He is seeking you out. Today, say with David, “Lord I am coming.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I desire to know You and to be known by You. Help me today to hear Your voice say to me, “Come and talk with me.” Help me to sense Your presence and spend time with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Follow Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Simon son of John, do you love me?”
John 21:17 (NLT)

“Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
John 6:67 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God created us for a relationship. Yet, how many times do we get this concept all wrong? Instead we act as if we created God. Rather than a deep relationship with Him, we act as if it is God’s role to make us happy, to serve us, and to answer our every need. We live as if God was more of a personal concierge than our Lord and Savior. Jesus felt some of this same attitude from His own followers. Many were following Jesus because of all they were receiving. One particular day Jesus decided to challenge everyone on this issue by calling the crowd to a higher life of discipleship and many of the people decided to stop following Jesus. Jesus came back to His twelve disciples and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” After Jesus rose from the dead and was ready to return to Heaven, he met His disciples by the seashore. It was there he asked Peter, “Do you love me?” Simple questions but the answers make all the difference in the world. How would you answer Jesus? What would you say? What do your actions say? Today, commit yourself to Christ. Tell Him how much you love Him and decide to follow Him in all you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus. I know I have often followed You for selfish reasons. Forgive me. I come today to follow You. To serve you. To love You. Receive my worship and humble gratitude I pray.
AMEN

Doing God’s Will

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do the will of God with all your heart.”
Ephesians 6:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You can do something half-heartedly, or you can really give yourself to it. You can do it out of sheer obedience or because of a loving heart. Paul was asking the church members to do God’s will, but not just do it, do it with all their heart. In his book, “Knowing God’s Will” David Benner writes, “Only love was capable of empowering Jesus to choose God’s will over his own when faced with the agony of death. – Spiritual disciplines that emerge simply as acts of the will are likely to be self-serving and legalistic. What God desires is external actions that spring from inner longings for relationship and intimacy, for this is His desire for us. This was what the Father found in the heart of Jesus. And it is the motive for spiritual willing that we can find in our life in Jesus as we follow Him and live in His Spirit.” Today, ask God to birth in you a fresh desire to follow Him, a deep love and intimacy with Him that directs the way you live. Today, “do the will of God with all your heart.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me know You more and more so that I develop a deeper love for You. Then help all my actions come from the love that you birth in my heart.
AMEN
