Our Deepest Longings

TODAY’S VERSE
“His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist.”
Acts 17:27-28 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God’s purpose has always been that we fellowship with Him. He has built us with what Anne Halley calls our “Core longings for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance and belonging.” We all need to have these fulfilled and we were made to have them fulfilled in fellowship with God. The people of Athens were searching for truth. They had a temple filled with a multitude of gods and yet they asked Paul to come and share about Jesus. Paul’s message cut to the heart and exposed their deepest longings. He shared that these longings could only be met in God for in God, “we live and move and exist.” It is coming to God, fellowshipping in His presence, feeling safe enough to be vulnerable and expose our lack of fulfillment and let Him fill the deep core longings of our heart. We must come to a place where we believe the TRUTH- that when we cry out to God and move toward Him, He hears and responds and meets us and fulfills our need for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance and belonging. Today, come to Him, fellowship with Him. As Paul said, “He is not far from any one of us.” Bring Him the deep longings of your heart and find your place in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come today and lay before You my deepest longings for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance and belonging. Thank You that in Jesus Christ all my longings are met. Come fill my heart and help me live, move and exist in You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

True Significance

TODAY’S VERSE
“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”
Psalms 139:17-18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Significance. How do you find it? The story goes that a man travels all around the world looking for treasure and at the end of his life comes back to his home village to die. After he dies, the next person buys his house and finds diamonds in the back yard. He had a diamond mine in his back yard all the time. We look all around our own world to find love, acceptance and significance. The truth is right in front of us. We are significant because God created us and loves us, period. David really believed that God thought about him. You can, too. How? By believing today’s passage with your heart, not just your mind.  Read the words again and this time picture God feeling this way about you. “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You have created all things, and yet, out of all that You have created from before time, You think about me. More than that, You love me. I am significant to You. Thank You Lord! Help these thoughts fill my heart and shape my behavior today so I might return to You all my love and adoration. I praise You! In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Purpose

TODAY’S VERSE
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.”
Psalms 57:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
I can understand God’s purpose for Michael the Archangel. I understand when God chooses a Moses, Abraham or David to do His will. I can comprehend Jesus picking twelve disciples to follow Him and God choosing Paul to be a great missionary. What completely mystifies me however, is that God has a purpose for me! Not only does God have a purpose for me, His purpose is to fulfill that purpose. Now you try. Read today’s passage and put yourself in the picture. God will fulfill His purpose for you! Can you get a sense of what that means? Perhaps you are thinking, “I’m nobody special.”  Sorry but God thinks you are! “I don’t have special skills.” You have exactly what God wants you to have. “I have done too many wrong things.” God’s grace is greater than all your wrong doing. “I can’t do anything out of the ordinary.” All God asks you to do is show up and be willing to live for Him. He will do the rest. Stop and hear God saying to you, “I am so glad I created you! I am so excited about you living out your purpose.” Today, cry out to God surrender yourself to Him. Purpose in your heart to live out the purpose He has for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I surrender my life to You. Use me, live through me. Guide me and help me fulfill Your purpose for my life.
AMEN

Life of Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.”
Ephesians 5:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
We spend so much of our life looking for a cause to believe in. Something that we can excel in by using our gifts and passions. Something that will give our life significance. And yet, as we search for that certain mission, the answer lays right before us. Paul writes and says, “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.”
What better cause is there? What could give us so many options and allow us to use our own giftedness and passion? What could possibly give more significance to our life than loving the way Christ did? There are so many people that need love. There are so many people that your presence in their life would make all the difference in the world. Paul said it this way in I Corinthians 13. “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”
Today, ask God to help you love those that He leads you to.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live a life filled with love. Thank You for Jesus who loves me so much. Might I follow His example in loving others.
AMEN

God Has A Purpose For You

TODAY’S VERSE
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me. He will send help from heaven to rescue me.”
Psalms 57:2-3 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
So many times in life we find ourself looking for significance. What is my purpose? Why am I here? Does my life really matter? We see the vastness of the universe and wonder, “Can I really matter that much?” The good news is that God is keenly aware of who you are. The answer to the questions above is a resounding, “Yes!” You do matter, God does care and you are significant. Like the Psalmist, when we feel overwhelmed, when we doubt whether we matter, we can cry out to God who will fulfill His purpose for us. Did you get that? God has a purpose for you and He will fulfill it. Because of His purpose for you, God is committed to do whatever it takes to fulfill that purpose even if it means sending help from Heaven itself to help you. So today rejoice in your significance. God loves you. God is vitally interested in you. God will fulfill His purpose for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that You have created me and know me intimately. Thank You for creating me for a purpose. I pray that You will give me the wisdom to know Your purpose for me and the courage to live it out. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
