Your God Is Too Small

TODAY’S VERSE
“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.” Psalms 36:5-6 “May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3:18-19

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How big is your God? In 1952, J.B. Phillips wrote a book called, “Your God Is Too Small.” It shook the Christian world. His theory was that many believers had misconceptions about God that were no more than superimposed human characteristics. God was a Santa Claus, a stern father, an impersonal clock maker, a kill joy. His book begged the question of how big was the God we visualized as we worshiped. In today’s scripture, David paints a picture for us to imagine when we think of God. He writes that God’s unfailing love is “vast as the heavens”, His faithfulness “reaches beyond the clouds.” He compares God’s righteousness to “mighty mountains” and His justice to the “ocean depths.” Even with David’s help, Paul knows that we cannot begin to understand how magnificent God really is by ourselves; so He prays that we may have power from God to really understand how wide, long, high and deep His love is. How can we begin to know how vast God is? How do we keep from making God too small? Paul shares the secret. He writes, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ask God to help you experience His love today. To really know it, feel it, sense it, see it. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you right now in ways you have never experienced Him before. If you do, what does God promise? He promises, “Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father. Can it be true? Can I really experience your love today? Can I begin to know how deep, high, long and wide it really is? Pour into my heart a sense of Your presence. Help me imagine who You really are. Forgive me for making You so small. Enlarge my vision today, I pray.
AMEN

Supernatural Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity is so much more than a religion. It is a Holy calling. But contrary to so many images of religious zealots, we are not called to violence; we are called to a radical life of love. Jesus made this clear in His example and Paul in his teachings. We are His holy people and He has asked us to permeate our life with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. And not just with each other. We are to love the world in the same way He does. We are to love the unlovely. We are to love the needy. We are to love those that despise us, those that use us, those that come against us. We are to love those that disagree with us, those that are different than us, those that hurt us. This is a calling and He who called us is able to empower us. It is His Holy Spirit that lives in us to do His good pleasure. So today, call upon God to help you live a life of love. “Clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You have called me to be Your ambassador of love. I confess I cannot do this in my own power. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and empower me to see with Your eyes and to love with Your heart. Because of Jesus.
AMEN

His Power

TODAY’S VERSE
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”
Ephesians 6:10 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
There is no doubt, in this life we need to be strong! How many times are we gripped with uncertainty, fear and doubt? How often are we attacked by rouge thoughts that would take us captive and leave our souls barren?  How weak can we get and still have more room for weakness? But today’s passage says, “Finally, be strong.” And would we try! But our strength just doesn’t seem to be enough. That is why I rejoice in the rest of the passage. When we read the rest we see that we are not alone in this spiritual battle. No, the verse reads, “Finally be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” What a difference a few words can make. We are to be strong, but not in our own power. Rather we are to lean upon the generosity of our Lord Jesus Christ and His mighty power. Today, take a few moments and meditate on what “His power” really means. Consider what it can do, think about your life and how different it would be if indeed God unleashed His power in it. This is what He offers. He says, “Come today and use my power. Don’t try to do it on your own. Lean on me. I give you my power to use so come be strong in me.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today teach me about Your power. Show me how strong You are. Open my eyes to the possibilities before me as I choose to trust You and Your mighty power.
AMEN

Majesty

TODAY’S VERSE
“We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”
II Peter 1:16 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
The Bible makes it plain that there is a spiritual battle going on for the souls of mankind. It is more that good verses bad. Part of the satanic plan is to imitate God’s plan. We are warned that Satan often comes as a “angel of light.” For century’s fiction has imitated the Supernatural. Fairytales, myths, folk stories with magical powers and super heroes not only imitate the supernatural, they plant a seed of doubt in actually believing that the Bible is true. After all a fairytale is make believe so why believe the stories told in Scriptures. Peter knew this was happening. That is why he insisted that we know that he and the other disciples were not following some clever invented story. Instead they were sharing about what they actually witnessed. But what makes this so special is that they witnessed more than events. They witnessed the very power and majesty of Christ. Majesty, that splendor of character, greatness, authority and sovereign power that Christ exhibited in the way He lived. What if you and I could say with Peter that we were eyewitnesses of this same power and majesty today? We can you know. No, we may not see Christ in the flesh, but we can see Him the way Paul did. We can experience the real, living Christ today, just like the disciples. Ask Christ if it is true? Go ahead. Talk to Him about His power and majesty. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Today begin a deeper walk with Him. If you do, you too will join Peter and the millions of others, who through the centuries, have known His power and majesty.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You in all Your power and majesty. I want to be an eyewitness of the same kinds of things that Peter experienced. Help me believe. Increase my faith. Make Your supernatural presence a reality in my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
