He Cares For You

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
Mark 4:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How often do we think the same thing the disciples thought? It was storming, and they thought they were going to die. So they came to a sleeping Jesus and asked Him if He cared that they would drown. Now I understand their concern, but why question Christ’s love? Instead, they could have asked Him to simply calm the storm. The trouble was, deep in their heart, they didn’t think that was an option. We see this when moments later, Jesus did calm the storm. They were terrified with amazement and said, “Who is this man that even the sea and winds obey Him?” Isn’t that like us? Not only do we doubt that God can help us so many times, we doubt that He wants to! The truth is, He cares. An old hymn says it best, “Does Jesus care when my way is dark with a nameless dread and fear? As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near? O yes, He cares, I know He cares, His heart is touched with my grief; when the days are weary, the long night dreary, I know my Savior cares.” Today, know He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, how often I am in that boat. Trouble comes, and I doubt Your power and Your love. Forgive me. Today, I rebuke the lie that You do not care for me and choose to believe the truth that You love me and care for me deeply. For this, I give thanks.
AMEN

True Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation.
II Thessalonians 3:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
True peace comes from God. We all long for it, but how does God give us “His peace all of the time in every situation?” Paul tells us how. He writes to the Philippians, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” If you trust in God, He will give you peace that passes all your understanding. He said it this way to the church in Rome, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him.” Today, stop being anxious; instead, trust in God. Quit worrying and pray joyfully about your situation. If you do, you will experience God’s deep, satisfying, enduring peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, God of all peace. Please fill me with Your peace today as I trust You.
AMEN

Tell Someone

TODAY’S VERSE
So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them.
Mark 5:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Do you tell people about Jesus? What if someone asked you, “What has Jesus done for you?” what would you say? Many of us can talk about Christ. We know all kinds of facts. We can talk about creation, prophecy, and proof of the credibility of the Bible. But we have a hard time telling someone what God has done in our life. A testimony is someone’s account of what happened to them, not some historical facts about the Bible. Today’s verse is about a man that was demon processed. Jesus came to his town and healed him. Jesus set him free, and he wanted to leave and follow Jesus, but Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” And that is what the man did. God wants to be merciful in your life. Today begin a deep and significant relationship with Christ. Love Him, talk to Him, and depend on Him. As you do, you too will be able to tell others what Christ is doing in your life. When you do, they too will be amazed.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, come to my house. Please help me. I want to know You and Your power in my life. I want to live for You and share everything You have done for me with others.
AMEN

You Were Made For Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy.
Psalms 43:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We were made for joy. That is because God created us to fellowship with Him, and it is in this relationship we find real lasting joy. The deep realization of how much He loves us and delights in us causes us to spend time with Him. Like David, we will run to the altar, not an altar of brick and mortar but the altar of our heart. In this “remaining in His love”, we have a joyful fellowship with God. Jesus said it this way, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” The secret is remaining in His love. So today, come to the altar of God, come in joyful anticipation. Come with the full realization that He loves you like the most loving Father in the universe would love their child. Rejoice, be glad, remain in His love, and let your joy in Him overflow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear loving Father, how I thank You for Your deep love for me. I come today to Your altar to worship and spend time with You. Today, help me remain in full awareness of Your love, so that my joy will be full.
AMEN

Pray

TODAY’S VERSE
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Colossians 4:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to over-emphasize the importance of prayer. That is why Paul models for the Colossians a deep, sincere, focused prayer life. He writes, “We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Prayer is essential to our Christian experience, so Paul insists that we devote ourselves to prayer. Devotion is a serious commitment, but like Jesus, Paul was not talking about a vain repetition of prayers or an insincere ritualistic routine. No, he asked that we be earnest with a Holy intent and focus. And then, he adds that we need to pray with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the relational part of our prayers. To be thankful to God means that we genuinely acknowledge who He is and what He has done. Thankfulness kindles love in our hearts for God and allow us to receive the same from Him. So today, devote yourself to pray with a thankful heart, keeping alert and earnest in your conversation with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I need to pray. Forgive me for my lack of focus and thanksgiving. Help me as I devote myself to prayer, stay alert and thankful, and develop a deep relationship with You.
AMEN

Living For Him

TODAY’S VERSE
We think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do people think about when they consider your life? Is it your skill, behavior, appearance, or accomplishments? Is it your failures, tragedies, or misdeeds? None of that really defines you. You are defined by God and His love for you. Paul confirms this when he continued to write about the Thessalonian church. He wrote, “We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people.” God has done the same for you. He loves you, chose you to be His child, and has filled you with the power of the Holy Spirit. It is this that defines you and the outcome of this calling is a life pleasing to Him. So today know that He has called you and will empower you to be faithful in your work for Him. He will help you be loving in all you do and He will fill you with enduring hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for all You have done for me. Help me live for You and be faithful to You in all that I do. Help me to be loving in all my deeds and to endure in the hope I have in You.
AMEN

Comfort, Hope, and Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt like giving up? Have the pressures of life ever overwhelmed you to the point that you were full of fear? Have you ever found yourself on a merry-go-round of quiet desperation? All of us have had those kinds of times in our life. We all have a story. But here is the good news, Paul wrote a benediction that you can claim as your very own. He wanted you to know that your Lord Jesus Christ and God, who is your loving Father, loves you very much and has been gracious to you, giving you comfort and hope that you can claim as your very own. Also, He has promised to comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing that you do and say. Today, take joy in His promise. Come to Him and claim your comfort, hope, and strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus and God, my heavenly Father. Today I come to claim what You have promised me. I ask that You bring me comfort, a sense of hope, and all the strength I need for this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEM

Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
Romans 12:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Be at peace with everyone? How hard is that? Nevertheless, you are commanded in scripture to love others. Jesus went farther and said you are to love your enemies! His message was and always has been revolutionary. The good news is that Paul doesn’t leave you helpless. He writes in this same passage some practical instructions on how to be at peace with others. Listen to what he wrote, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! Never pay back evil with more evil. Never take revenge.” Today, may God help you do all you can to live in peace with everyone.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me today to do all I can to live in peace with everyone.
AMEN

No Shame

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Ephesians 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Shame keeps so many of us from understanding how much we are loved by God. In her book, “It Wasn’t Your Fault,” Beverly Engel explains what shame is like. She writes, “When we feel guilt, we feel badly about something we did or neglected to do. When we feel shame, we feel badly about who we are. Guilty people fear punishment, shamed people fear abandonment. When we feel guilty we need to learn it is okay to make mistakes. When we feel shamed we need to learn it’s okay to be who we are. Internalized shame is experienced as a deep sense of who a person is – the feeling that she is defective or never good enough.” Paul speaks to this internalized shame when he writes, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Oh, my friend, rebuke shame today. It is a lie! Instead, may God, in all His grace, help you understand today how wide, how long, and how deep you are truly loved. God has taken all your guilt and has left you with no shame!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, my normal posture is to look down in shame. But today, You have lifted my head. You have looked into my eyes and have whispered, “No shame!” Bless You Lord! I receive it in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be An Example

TODAY’S VERSE
Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
I Timothy 4:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul originally wrote this to Timothy, telling him not to let anyone despise him because he was young. Paul encouraged Timothy to be an example of how a believer should live. I started full-time in the ministry when I was twenty and remember how relevant this passage was to me. I wanted to be diligent and conscientious about the way I lived. But when does it stop? Each decade is a transition with a new set of issues and problems. Shouldn’t an older, more mature believer be an example to the younger? Shouldn’t someone in midlife be an example of a mature believer to those who are elders? No matter what age, we all should be an example of what it means to follow Christ. Today may your Christian maturity be evident in what you say, the way you live, and your love, faith, and purity.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me be an example to those around me of how a Christian lives. Today help me live the way You want me to, with my love, faith, and purity.
AMEN
