Trust God

 TODAY’S VERSE
“Trust in the LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are those times. You know, when everything around us seems to be falling apart. When nothing we do seems to be working. When even our prayers seem to be bouncing off the ceiling. It is days like this that I come to this passage and thank God that He is in control. And so we are told to trust in God. Trust Him with all our heart. It is easy to trust when all is well, but in this case, we are to trust in God even if our own understanding tells us the opposite. We are not to lean on our own understanding. Instead, we need to trust His love for us and seek His will in all we do. Then God promises that He will show us which direction we should go. Today, give your situation to God. Trust Him with all Your heart and let Him direct Your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You with my situation. You know my needs. Help me trust in You and not depend on my own understanding. Direct my path today, I pray.
AMEN

His Representative

TODAY’S VERSE
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus.”
Colossians 3:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have choices. I wish it was as easy as becoming a Christian and everything we do would be pleasing in His eyes. But it doesn’t happen that way. No more than getting married guarantees that everything we do represents what a good spouse should be like. Much of what we do is far from God’s representative. Yes, we make a choice to become a Christian and it sets our course. But then we must live it out everyday. But how? How do we live the way He wants us to? By maintaining a vibrant relationship with Him; being purposeful in the way we live; and being conscious of the love He has for us. This helps us make the daily choices we need to be His representative in all we do and say. Today, may God give us the wisdom, courage and strength to live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me filter what I say and do so that my life will be pleasing to You. Guide me by Your word. Empower me through Your Holy Spirit I pray.
AMEN

Be Amazed

TODAY’S VERSE
“All the people were amazed and said to each other, ‘What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!”’
Luke 4:36 (NIV)
“When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”’

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Are you amazed yet? Not everyone was. In today’s passage when people heard Jesus’ teaching, witnessed His miracles, sensed His immense love, they ended up saying, “What authority and power!” And before Jesus left the earth and said “All authority was given to me,” it says that some people worshipped. But it also states that some doubted. Isn’t that just like us? We worship and we doubt. We trust and we fear. We have hope and we despair. What can make the difference? What can take us from doubt to worship? Spending time with Him. It was those that were with Him, watching and listening, that experienced His power and His authority. Those that “heard” Jesus say that all authority was His, well, they just heard it. Today, let yourself be amazed; spend time with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come today to be amazed. I want to know You, know Your love, know Your power. Open my eyes, open my heart to all that You are. I come and worship You.
AMEN

Encouragement

TODAY’S VERSE
“So encourage each other and build each other up.”
I Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get up and begin our day all self indulgent. After all, we have responsibilities, deadlines and pressures. Not to mention difficulties, struggles and concerns. Life is hard and it is every person for themselves. But that is not the way of Christ. Paul wrote, “Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Christ thought of others. Even on the Cross, He encouraged the man on the cross next to Him. Likewise, we have a calling. A calling to encourage others. To get out of our own self and think of emotional needs of those around us. People need hope. Who will you encourage today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me think of others more than I do myself. Help me love. Help me be an encourager. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Will Rescue You

TODAY’S VERSE
“We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.”
II Corinthians 1:8-10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes life gets so hard. You wonder how you will make it. And then you come to a passage of scripture like today’s and become encouraged deep down in your soul. Paul was overwhelmed beyond his ability to endure but through it, he learned not to rely on himself but to rely on God; God who is so powerful that He can raise the dead! As a result Paul put all his confidence in God who he knew would rescue him again. What about you? Is there something that is wearing you down? Do you, or someone you love, need rescuing? If so, come to God today. Bring your situation to Him who is faithful. Place your confidence in Him and He will continue to rescue you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that I can come to You with my deepest sorrow, my gravest situation and my greatest fears. I thank You that I can put my confidence in the fact that You will hear my prayers and rescue me. I commit myself to You today and will rely on You to provide all my needs. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Live For Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”
I Timothy 4:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember as a young person how today’s passage shaped my life. It was exciting to be challenged to live like a believer should, even though I was young. God cared about my behavior. He did not discount me because I was young. He gave me everything I needed to live the life He wanted me to. Well, today, four decades later, God still cares about my behavior. I am not off the hook because I am older. I still need to live the way God wants me to. And how exciting to know that God still empowers me by and through His Holy Spirit. Today, let God help you be an example of what a believer should be in the way you talk, live, have faith, love and keep yourself pure.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me everything I need in order to live for You. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will guide me and empower me to live, love, have faith and live pure in a way that pleases You.
AMEN

Answered Prayer

TODAY’S VERSE
“We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.”
II Corinthians 1:11

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Prayer. How many times are we tempted to think that it doesn’t matter? How many times does it feel as if our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, not affecting any outcome? Yet, we see in today’s verse that Paul is saying, “You are helping us by praying for us.” Now Paul knew where the real credit belonged. He confesses that his confidence is in God, who continues to rescue him; but he is quick to add that praying to God is that catalyst that causes the power of God to prevail. God designed it that way. Our almighty, all knowing, all powerful God has chosen to allow His power to be used at the point of our involvement. He chose you and I to be His co-laborers, His agents in this world, charged with the responsibility of invoking His power. After all, Jesus himself taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Paul said, “Many people will give thanks because God answered so many prayers for our safety!” Let me ask you, “How many people will give thanks because you prayed on their behalf?” It’s not too late! Start praying today. Pray for your family, pray for your friends. Pray for those at work. Pray for your church. When you are done, pray some more. God desires our prayers. He desires to work out His will in harmony with our requests.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I feel like Your disciples who asked You to teach them to pray. I am so ignorant, so inexperienced, so naive about prayer. Holy Spirit, teach me, guide me, instruct me. Help me to know what to pray. Give me the faith to trust You. Today, embolden my heart to pray in a way that brings You glory and works on behalf of those that so desperately need Your touch. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Praise Him Today

TODAY’S VERSE
“I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.”
Psalms 145:1-5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever praised the Lord? No, I mean really praised the Lord? It could have been a quiet, sweet praise that brought tears to your eyes. Perhaps it was a shout-out-loud, hand clapping exuberance. If you haven’t been praising the Lord lately, today would be a great time to start. David said that he praised God everyday. Why? Because David knew that God was worthy of his praise! We, too, can praise God. Just start to think of all the goodness in your life. Think of all that you have. Think of those most precious to you. Think of the fact that today you are alive and as long as you are alive, God has a purpose for you. If that is not enough, think of the fact that God loves you unconditionally. He has forgiven you of all the wrong you have ever done through the sacrificial death of His son. Finally, think of how almighty God is. Think of how awesome He is. His wisdom, majesty, power and greatness are without limit. So what is stopping you? Right now, stop and praise the Lord. Tell Him how much you love Him. Tell Him how great and majestic He is and how thankful you are to have a relationship with Him. He is worthy of our praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Almighty, glorious, everlasting, majestic God. I come now to bow before You. I come to praise Your Holy name. I come to lift up my voice from the depth of my soul and say, “Hallelujah ” I thank You for who You are and for what You have done in my life. I thank and praise You for all that I have and for all that I am. I thank You for Your love for me, for Your death on the cross for me, and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. I praise You, God, for Your greatness. Truly, You are worthy of all my praise. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Powerful Possiblities

TODAY’S VERSE
“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 1:19-20

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How would it change your life if you really understood the power God has for you? Can you imagine someone only living on $10,000 a year when they had a million dollars given to them and placed in their bank account? It would be foolishness to have a million dollars and never understand all that you could do with it. Yet what must God think, when He has deposited into our life account His incredible power, and we never avail ourself of it; we only live on a fraction of what He has supplied us with? How different would our life be if we really begin to understand how He wants us to use His power? Pray today that God would open your eyes to all that He wants to do in your life through His powerful possibilities.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to understand all the power You have for my life. Help me see how I am a steward of that power, how You want to use Your power in and through my life. Please, Lord, give me the faith today to ask for Your power exhibited in my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hope In Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. – I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.”
Psalms 130: 1,2,5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where would we be without hope and faith? And yet faith and hope is not enough. We can have faith in the wrong thing. We can be hoping where there is no hope. But the Psalmist knew who he believed in. He knew the character and power of God, so when he was in his deepest despair, he would cry out to Him. He could count of God to hear him. He writes to Israel, “O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love.” It was God’s unfailing love that kept him going. It got him up in the morning and allowed him to put one foot in front of the other, even when he did not know where he was going. Even in his depths of despair, God’s love sustained him. Today, bring your needs to God. Call on Him for help. Count on Him to come through. Today, put your hope in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come and put my trust in You. I am counting on You, Lord, and Your unfailing love to sustain me. I have put my hope in You.
AMEN
