TODAY’S VERSE
Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.
Luke 12:21 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse is very similar to another in which Jesus says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” At first glance it would be easy to conclude that we should not seek after the riches of this world. Certainly, Jesus was an example of a person with no materialistic yearnings. Yet if we reduce these verses to a simple anti-materialism message, we lose the real meaning. The point Jesus was making is that we need to make seeking after Him our first and most important priority. Many people who have acquired wealth will tell you that it is hard work and takes every ounce of concentration and energy. Jesus knew this. He knew the zeal and passion a person needs to succeed in business. He wants us to have that same, if not more, passion and zeal for knowing and serving Him. Today God calls us to know Him. Build a deep and rich relationship with Him. That is true wealth.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I have gotten my priorities all messed up. Lord, help me seek after You. I want knowing and loving You to be the premier desire of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
