He Is Alive

TODAY’S VERSE

I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.
Revelation 1:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“He’s Alive!” Those two words can make all the difference in the world. So many people talk about a God of their choice. They say that we should be in touch with an energy, a force, or one with the universe. But the God of the Scriptures is so much more than that. We serve an entity. A true living God, not of our choice, but one that chooses us. A God who is there and is active in His creation. A God who united with us through His son, Jesus. Jesus came as a baby, lived among us, and then died to be a sacrifice for us. He took the penalty for our sins so we could be right with God. And then, as a result of His very Deity, Jesus rose from the dead. He is alive! What does that do for you? What reality does that speak into your life? Our God is real, and He is alive. He is all-knowing and all-powerful. And most of all, God is vitally interested in your life! Do you know Him as your Lord and Savior? If not, today you can invite Him to be your God and give Him complete control of everything you are. When you do, He will not only be alive, He will be alive in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I thank You that You are alive. I need to know that You are alive in me. Forgive me of all my sins. I accept the death of Jesus Christ as the payment for all my wrongdoing and ask You to become alive in my heart. Make me a Christian right now. I pray this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN

Trust God

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverb 3:5-6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We never seem to run out of opportunities to “trust” God. That doesn’t mean we choose to trust Him. If we were honest with ourself, we would admit that most of the time we choose to fear, run, hide, get mad, pout, strike out at others and a myriad of other reactions to the many stresses in our life. But this is not what God wants. God wants us to trust Him. Solomon knew this and shared his secret to trusting with us. Trusting is the result of drawing near to God with your heart. Trust is choosing to move from fear to faith, anger to peace, and doubt to certainty. Solomon warned about depending on our own understanding only. He encouraged us to move toward God, seeking His will in everything that is going on. It is in “trusting God with all of our heart” that we find Him near, showing us which way to go. Today, when you find yourself in a quandary, stop! Draw near to God, seek His will, and trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come to You, drawing as near as I can. Here is my heart. I come seeking Your will and will trust in You.
AMEN

The Lord Bless You

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often we put the emphasis on us “following” God when we would be better off “responding” to God. We worry so much about how to love God when we all we really need to do is truly understand His love for us. If we knew what today’s verse really meant, how could loving God ever be an issue? How could we ever be worried about following Him? But do we really believe that God desires to bless us and keep us? Do we see God as a loving God that turns His face toward us with such a focus that it is as if His face is shining right on us? It is this daunting attention from our loving God that causes us to love Him. It is this knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that His intention is to bless us and keep us, to be gracious with us, and give us peace that causes us to follow Him without reservation. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, said it best, “We love Him because He first loved us.” Today know that God has blessed you and kept you. Understand that He has turned His face toward you and has shined it upon you. Finally, receive the peace that comes from knowing His unconditional love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your awareness of me. Thank You for shining Your face on me. Thank You for turning Your face toward me and giving me peace. Today, Lord, help me live in this reality.
AMEN

Word and Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.
Matthew 22:29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Oops! How many times has that happened? We live under a particular assumption, do all kinds of things, only to find out that we have it all wrong! Assumptions do that. They can lead us down the wrong road. A road full of wild emotions and deep regret. Not just assumptions, misguided beliefs can also take us on the wrong journey. So it was with those who were trying to debate Jesus and trick Him into contradicting their traditions. Two things Jesus pointed out were both mistakes. One, they did not know the scriptures. They thought they did. They knew the words but not the intentions. They knew the law but not the grace. They knew the letter but not the spirit. God’s intention has always been to bring life, love, and grace to humankind. If you do not know that, you do not know the scriptures. Secondly, they did not know the power of God. They knew the stories in the scriptures, but not the reality. They knew about God but not the power of God. They believed in death, but not in God’s power to give eternal life. Don’t make the same mistake. Today, choose to believe. Get to know the reality behind every page of the scriptures. Get to know God and all the power He has for your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me get to know You. Help the scriptures come alive in my life. Help me live in the power of Your resurrection. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Worship Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”’
Revelation 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is it about God’s Holiness that moves me so much? Holiness, I can’t comprehend it. I try to put my mind around it, but it is too vast. When I sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty,” the fact that this Holy God allows me to adore Him and worship Him is humbling and very moving. It is mind-boggling to be in His presence and sing about the very thing that would generally separate me from Him. His majesty, His power, His might, His Holiness; who am I that He would allow me to sing His praise? And yet He desires my praise. And He desires yours! He rejoices in our worship. He invites us to say with all of Heaven, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Today, worship Him. He is Holy. He is worthy of all our praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I adore You. How I worship You. Thank You for Your Holiness, majesty, and power. Thank You for Your grace and love. Indeed, You are worthy of all my praise.
AMEN

Surrender To Love

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is no greater occupation for the Christian than to know the love of God. Paul prayed that we would be given the power to understand it fully. He prayed that we would experience God’s love, even though it is beyond our comprehension. Why? Because that is the only way we will ever be complete in Him. It is in truly knowing God’s love that we are endowed with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. In his book, “Surrender To Love,” the author David Benner writes, “The Christian spiritual journey consists of more than surrender to love. But it contains nothing more important. Surrender to God’s love involves confession, repentance, obedience, and service. But as I have noted, for surrender to be transformational, it must be surrender to love. And for it to lead to union with God, it must be surrender to perfect love. Christian spirituality begins with love and ends with love.” Today God will provide all the power you will ever need to understand His love, but you must surrender. Come, spend time with Him and begin to know how wide, long, high, and deep His love truly is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I long to know You and all the fullness of Your love for me. I surrender to it. I need it. I come humbly before You and ask You to show me the mystery of Your love for me.
AMEN

Come In, Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
Revelation 3:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I have always loved this metaphor. Here is Jesus coming to the door of my heart and knocking. What a deliberate move. Jesus is so vitally interested in me and you that He comes to us, knocks on our door, waiting to come in. And to do what? Investigate every nook and cranny in order to scorn and shame us? No, He knocks so we can invite Him in because He wants to “share a meal together as friends!” In his book, “The Deeper Journey,” M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “God comes into the core of our being. God comes to bring light into darkness, cleansing into our sin, life into our deadness, healing into our brokenness, and liberation into our bondage; to nurture us there into wholeness in the very image of God.” And so today, Jesus knocks. Now, a door can be a considerable barrier, but to a friend, it is an entrance into a wonderful relationship. Listen, can you hear His footsteps? Quick answer the door, Jesus, your friend is here.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, thank You for knocking on my door. I hear You and open up my heart. Please, Jesus, come in and fellowship with me today.
AMEN

His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light. Psalms 56:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to be Adam and Eve? They had a personal relationship with God. They met with Him every day and lived in His presence. Though they disobeyed God and changed the world forever, we still have an opportunity to fellowship with God. David knew this. As a shepherd boy, he would spend his nights under the stars and sing to God. As he grew, he became “a man after God’s own heart.” David knew what it meant to walk with God. He admitted, “Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.” He realized that there was nowhere he could go, no situation he could be in that would take Him outside of God’s presence. We, too, can have that same reality. God bids us come and fellowship with Him. He desires for us to live in His life-giving light. Today, stop and realize that you are in the very presence of God. Better yet, remind yourself that His presence lives in you! Rejoice and walk with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your abiding presence. Today I choose to walk in Your life-giving light.
AMEN

Right With God

TODAY’S VERSE
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.
Roman 3:22-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an incredible plan. What an invitation. God allows us to be fully forgiven and made right with Him by believing in Him. I cannot make it any clearer than Paul. He writes, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus, who freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” In God’s plan, we become right with Him by placing our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receiving His crucifixion as the punishment for our sin. Have you done that? Have you come to Him and accepted Him as your Savior? If not, you can do it today. As Paul wrote, “This is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your excellent plan of salvation. Thank You that the death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, paid for my sin. I put my faith in His death and accept Him as my Lord and Savior.
AMEN

Convinced

TODAY’S VERSE
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.
Romans 8:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems we start out believing by nature, but soon become skeptical by practice. How many “guarantees” have you experienced as no guarantee at all? We have been lied to, taken advantage of, and let down so often that we don’t know what to believe. But Paul knew one thing he was sure of. He was “convinced!” He was convinced that nothing could separate him from the love of God. How many things are you convinced of? And what a difference being that sure of something can make. If you were convinced that you could invest $10,000 in stock and get back $1,000,000, how long would it take you to get the $10,000? Paul had that same attitude toward the love of God. He was convinced that he could invest in God’s love, which will never leave him, and receive back a peace that passes all understanding: God’s constant provision, the fruit of the Spirit, and eternal life. Today, become convinced. God loves you, and nothing will ever separate you from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I believe, help my unbelief. I want to be convinced of Your love. Speak to my heart, move me, help me understand how trustworthy You are and how spectacular Your love is for me.
AMEN
