What Do You Expect?

TODAY’S VERSE
But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
James 1:6-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Expectations have a lot to do with outcomes. What is faith if it is not an expectation that God is going to do what He said He would do? What is hope if it is not an expectation of good things to come? What are you expecting from God? What are you expecting your life to be like? The answers to these questions make all the difference in the world. The Bible gives us many reasons to expect great things in our life. We have a great God with a great love for us who has a great plan for our life. This should influence what we expect today. We should go forth today expecting God’s favor on our life. We should expect God’s love to shine in our hearts. We should expect He to listen to our prayers and grant our requests according to His will. We should expect Him to act in love on our behalf. We should expect God to be compassionate and forgiving toward us. So let me ask, “If you are a loved child of the King of Kings, what are you expecting today?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I say I trust You, but often my expectations betray me. I don’t act as if I believe You love me. I don’t act as if You are determined to bless me today. Forgive me, Lord. Please help me to live in the expectation of Your love and blessing in my life today and every day.

My Generation

TODAY’S VERSE
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
Psalms 78:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How personal is God to you? How have you applied faith to your own circumstances? Are you living with a vibrant, relevant trust in God for your own personal circumstances or are you simply involved in a passed down religious experience. Now it is true that God is the same yesterday, today and forever, but each generation has a new set of circumstances, and we must appropriate faith to our own unique situation. We can’t live off the faith of previous generations. True, we must not forget the great deeds that God has done in the past, and we must keep His commands and teachings, but now we have to take all we have heard and know and make it true for us. This is our time to step up and trust God. So today, as different as this time is from all other times before, know that God is with you and set your hope on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You and put my faith in You. I need You for such a time as this. I need You for specific needs in my life. I ask You to be the Lord of my life in this generation. Help me to live for You today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Worship Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
Luke 7:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What if we understood how much love the Father has for us? The woman in today’s passage did. They identified her as an “immoral” woman, yet she came and worshipped Christ in a way I will never know of. She knelt, putting perfume on the feet of Jesus, all the while crying, so much so that she had to wipe her tears off His feet with her hair. She knew what the Psalmist knew. With all her heart, she knew that God is a God of compassion and mercy. He is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. How touched Jesus must have been to see such an outpouring of gratitude, such unbridled thankfulness, and worship. Today, might we pause and let Jesus know how much we care. Might we worship Him for His compassion and mercy toward us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I come today with a heart full of love and appreciation for the compassion and mercy You have shown me. You have been slow to anger and have shown me unfailing love and faithfulness. How I thank You. How I love You. I worship You in the matchless name of Your Son, Jesus.

Believe

TODAY’S VERSE
So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Romans 5:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There comes a time when you must choose whether or not you are going to believe. There are many things that you can strive for in life. There are many goals you can live for. There are many lofty positions you can aspire to. But in all your striving, there is one most important attribute you dare not ignore. God has created you to be more than a creation. He has created you to be His friend. Do you believe this? As hard as that can be to grasp, it is true. God will even help you understand it more thoroughly if you let Him. He gave you the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with His love. So today, you need to listen to His voice. Let today’s verse penetrate your heart. “So now you can rejoice in your wonderful new relationship with God because the Lord Jesus Christ has made you a friend of God.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, creator of all things, Almighty God, how thankful I am that You have called me Your friend. Holy Spirit, help me understand what this means. Please fill my heart with the knowledge of your love. Help me to know and rejoice in this new relationship with You.

Grace and Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.
Acts 6:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If given a choice, which would you rather be filled with? God’s grace or God’s power? At first, it seemed obvious that I would choose God’s power. His mighty power can do more than we could ever imagine. With this power, Stephen did amazing miracles and signs among the people. Oh God, fill me with Your power! But upon second thought, what good is the power of God without His grace? His grace is what guides the power. It is His grace that forgives, sets free, and loves. It is very possible to know about God’s power and grace and not live for His glory. However, if I were filled with God’s almighty grace, I am convinced His power would follow. Grace is the power of God to change lives. Grace is the power of love. Grace is the vessel that God’s power chooses to flow through. So today, let us pray that God would fill us with His grace so His power will work through us in amazing miracles and signs.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Jesus, fill me with Your grace. Not a small part of me, all of me. Help me be completely led by Your grace. I pray that Your power, led by Your grace, would flow through me to those in need. Lord, You did it in the early church. Bring revival again today. Rain down your grace and power, I pray. Begin it in me.

Fear No More

TODAY’S VERSE
I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear comes in different shapes and sizes. To be sure, there are full-blown phobias and crippling fears that can interrupt our life, but for most of us, fear is more insidious. Fears of rejection, insignificance, and abandonment may not interrupt our lives, but they can influence how we think and act. You see, either faith or fear constantly shapes our thoughts, motives, and behaviors. The Psalmist found the secret. He said that if we seek the Lord, He will deliver us from all our fears. Turn on the light of faith, and the darkness of fear will dissipate. Decide to seek God today. Move away from fear toward faith.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I want to trade my fears for faith. Today, when fear comes to my attention, I will seek You. I will seek You with all of my heart. Thank You for promising to deliver to me from all my fears.

Nothing Can Seperate You From God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
If God is for us, who can be against us? – Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? – For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:31, 35, 38 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse is one of the most significant promises in the Bible. It is true for every child of God. Nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing can separate you from the love of God! You may feel like His love is distant, you may have doubts, you may be in circumstances where it seems like God is nowhere near, but the truth remains. His love is with you, and He is conscious of you right now! Stop and recognize His presence. Be still and know that He is your God. If you feel far from God, ask yourself, “Who moved?” It wasn’t God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Almighty God, my Heavenly Father. I renounce all negative beliefs that lead me to think that You do not care or have abandoned me. I pray that You will, this very moment, make me conscious of Your presence. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and help me to understand that nothing has or ever will separate me from Your love. Thank You for Your great love for me.

We Need To Walk The Talk

TODAY’S VERSE
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
James 2:14-18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a world in such need, but we are so busy we don’t see it. We are so inwardly focused, so concerned about our welfare we don’t stop to help others. That is not the way of Christ! Our churches should be making huge differences in our communities, but we don’t. Often, we are trying to be the best church in the community. But the author, Eric Swanson, challenges us and says that we should try to be the best church for and with the community instead. That is Christ’s way. When will this change? It can change TODAY if you and I decide to do something. Today, we can make a difference in someone’s life by opening our eyes and hearts. We can encourage others in our church to make a difference. May God help us to “walk our talk.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me see other peoples’ needs with Your eyes. Bring someone into my life today who needs help. Give me the mercy to stop, the wisdom to know what to do, and the love to do it. Thank You, God, for all You have done for me; help me do for others.

What Are You Remembering?

TODAY’S VERSE
I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:19-23 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHTS
What we choose to dwell on impacts our thinking and eventually our actions. Jeremiah had plenty to lament about. God’s mission for him was difficult. He had to wander about the land with a thankless job. If he dwelled on it, he became bitter and downcast. But Jeremiah had a choice; he could also remember God’s faithfulness. When he did, it lifted his spirits. Jeremiah learned the secret to abundant living. He discovered how to have hope. He decided to meditate on the fact that God was not finished with him yet! That God’s compassion toward him NEVER fails. He recalled how God’s compassionate thoughts toward him were new every morning. Jeremiah concluded that God’s faithfulness is indeed great! How about you? When you start your day, what do you think about? What do you remember? Is your soul downcast, or are you excited about God’s love for you? Today, choose to dwell on God’s great compassion and let it give you the same hope that it gave Jeremiah.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for dwelling on the negative. I stop now to give You thanks. Thank You that You have compassionate thoughts about me. Please help me understand and believe that. Let it shape my thoughts today. Thank You for Your great faithfulness. In Jesus’ name.

Never Forsaken, Never Alone

TODAY’S VERSE
God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Loneliness, abandonment, alienation, separation, betrayal, and desertion are words that cut right to the heart. Because of our human relationships, all of us, to one degree or another, have experienced these negative emotions. The great news is that when you become God’s child and are born again, you enter into a permanent relationship with the almighty God. He becomes your loving Father who loves you (yes, you!) so much that He has made a tremendous promise. God has written, for all to read, that He will never, never, never, never, never, never leave you or forsake you. Never! Why? Because when He choose to love you unconditionally, it was settled, end of discussion, no changing His mind, ever. You are His child forever. The trouble is we find it hard to grasp. That is why Paul wrote, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Today, experience the fact that He loves you and will never leave you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, is it true that you love me unconditionally? I want to believe it with my mind and with my heart! Give me the power to understand your great love for me and believe your promise that You will never leave or forsake me.
