Remain In Him

TODAY’S VERSE
But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
John 15:7, 8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do we bring glory to God in our life? Jesus was pretty straightforward with the answer. He said we need to remain in Him and produce the kind of fruit His disciple would. Paul later explains what that fruit is. He wrote that when we follow Christ, the Holy Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our life. So how do we remain in Jesus? We do it by creating a solid relationship with Him. We spend enough time with Jesus to know what He wants. We relate to Him in meditation and prayer. We listen to Him. We make Him Lord of our life and ask Him to guide our life. As we remain in Jesus, we will see the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control more and more present in our life. This will bring glory to God

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me relate to You in a more personal way. Help me draw near to You and listen. Help me desire You above all things. Teach, guide, and reveal Yourself to me so that I may bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
II Corinthians 1:3-4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why is it so important not to fall into the trap of thinking that we must be perfect? Because there are no perfect people! Instead, God expects us to admit our struggles and come to Him for help. And then, we humbly go and help others. In his book Abba’s Child, Brennan Manning shares the insight that the late Mike Yacinelli, author and co-founder of Youth Specialties, had after he went on a spiritual retreat. Mike writes, “Finally, I accepted my brokenness. I never came to terms with that. I knew I was a sinner. I knew that I continually disappointed God, but I could never accept that part of me. It was a part of me that embarrassed me. I continually felt the need to apologize, to run from my weaknesses, to deny who I was and concentrate on what I should be. I was broken, yes, but I was continually trying never to be broken again – or at least to get to the place where I was very seldom broken. It became clear to me that I had totally misunderstood the Christian faith. I came to see that it was in my brokenness, in my powerlessness, in my weakness that Jesus was made strong. It was in the embracing of my brokenness that I could identify with other’s brokenness.” Might we learn the same lesson that Mike did. Might we cry out to God and be comforted and then invite others to experience the same comfort we received. This is the true Christian experience.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I admit that I have troubles. I bring my brokenness to You in exchange for your comfort and correction. Help me to banish any shame, embrace my humanness along with Your grace and then comfort others in the way You comfort me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Living On Purpose

TODAY’S VERSE
I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God.
Genesis 45:4-8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Joseph had a dream that God had a purpose for him to fulfill. In it, his family was bowing down to him. It was a purpose apparently with significance. His brothers were jealous of Joseph and, in a rage, sold him into slavery. He worked as an enslaved person, and later, when falsely accused of a crime, he went to prison, but everywhere he went, God favored him. He believed that God had a purpose for him, and this deep belief carried him through each day. Finally, at the story’s end, God restored Joseph to power under Pharoah and led him to store grain for an upcoming famine. As a result, when the famine came, Egypt was able to survive. Hearing that there was grain in Egypt, his brothers went to buy some. It was here that they were reunited with Joseph. When Joseph revealed himself, they were horrified. Joseph shared with them the key to his success, survival, and extraordinary life. He believed that God was in charge and had a purpose for him. He said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.” What about you? God has a purpose for you. Will you live on purpose for Him?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You have a divine purpose for my life. I ask You to guide me in the direction of that purpose. Please help me have the faith that Joseph did in trusting that you had a purpose for him when the times were good and bad. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You Treasure?

TODAY’S VERSE
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:20-21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get our priorities mixed up. It seems that people are judged by the money they earn and the things they acquire. Even criminals are honored if they have the “rich and famous” lifestyle. Fame and fortune are the goals that we aspire to. The issue isn’t whether “riches” are good or bad. The issue is that there is something more important than our materialism. There is a spiritual reality that we need to be concerned about. Jesus told us to store “spiritual” treasures in heaven. David wrote, “Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God.” Why is this important? Because what we treasure is a reflection of what we are inside. If we treasure God, it is because He has the affection of our heart. If we boast in the Lord, it is because we are pleased with our relationship with Him. Do we want to have a deeper, more satisfying relationship with God? Then we need to seek Him like we would gold. Go after Him like a lost treasure. Make Him the most valuable part of our life and our heart will follow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to treasure You more than gold. I want to love You more than my possessions. Help me to know You. Help me to experience Your love. Help me love You more and more until I understand the valuable treasure Your love really is. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Faith, Love, and Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ
I Thessalonians 1:2-3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity is more than a belief system; it is a way of life, a tour of duty. When we became Christian, we enlisted in the service of Jesus Christ. There is a spiritual battle in the world. Poverty, injustice, abuse, and hatred are all part of the human suffering around us. Depression, divorce, drug abuse, and psychosomatic disease are epidemics. In this world, God has created us to be His ambassadors of love, like the church in Thessalonica. Their seriousness and dedication blew Paul away. He thanked God for their faith, love, and hope and prayed for them. But it wasn’t what we would consider “faith, love, and hope.” Listen to what Paul wrote. He said, “your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope.” When was the last time we did something worthy of faith in a mighty working God? When did we labor in love? When have we had to endure hanging on to nothing else but hope? That is what it is to serve Jesus. You take responsibility seriously. You involve yourself in the life of others. You step out, way over your head, and know that only faith in God can get results. You take on situations that try your love beyond reason. It is hard, hard work. And when nothing else seems to be working, God comes through, and you are inspired to get up and do it all again because there is hope. We live in a hurting world. We have the answer. May we follow the example of the Thessalonians.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, give me faith to live for You today. Help me love today the way You want me to. Fill my heart with hope so it spills over onto everyone I encounter. Lead me on, dear Jesus.
AMEN

You Are A Masterpiece

TODAY’S VERSE
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
For every truth, there is a lie waiting to deceive us. Why is it so much easier to believe a lie? Why can doubt have so much impact on belief? A million people can believe the truth, and yet one dissenter will get the nation’s attention. It is that way in the spiritual realm. Paul writes that we are significant. Specifically, “we are God’s masterpiece created to do the good things he planned for us to do” and yet, what do we believe? Don’t we often think we are no good, inferior, damaged goods, and even hopeless? Where did that come from? It didn’t come from God! If we want to change our beliefs, we must renounce the lies. Do it today. Lift up your heart and say it aloud, “I renounce the lie that I am no good, inferior, damaged goods, or hopeless.” My friend, it is time to believe the truth about yourself. You are significant. You are a masterpiece made by God Himself. He absolutely loves you and desires you to accept the love He has for you. Today renounce the lies about yourself and pronounce the truth that “I am God’s masterpiece!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, my Father. I confess I have believed lies about myself. I renounce these negative thoughts and feelings and command their power over me to be broken in the precious name of Jesus Christ! I choose to accept the truth that You personally created me as a masterpiece to do the good things You have sent me here for. Thank you, dear Father, for giving me significance. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Cry Out To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Listen to my prayer for mercy as I cry out to you for help, as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary. – Praise the LORD! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalms 28:2, 7-8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David knew what it was like to be tormented. He knew the pain that comes with great need. He experienced difficulties that had no escape except by the mercy of an Almighty God. So David cried out to God for help. As David cried out to God, the Lord strengthened and protected him. David trusted God with all his heart, resulting in deep spiritual joy. You see, God did not take David out of his situation. David still faced his problems, but instead of facing his situation alone, he turned to God for strength. God protected David like a shield. Do you have a story similar to David’s? Are there times you need to cry out to God for His mercy? Rest assured, He hears you. You, too, can end up praising God, for He promises He will be your strength. He will be your shield. You can trust Him with your situation. When you do, you will experience the profound joy that can only come from God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today asking for Your mercy in my life. Thank You for hearing my cry and offering to be my strength and shield. I accept this promise and put all my trust in You. Thank You that I will not be disappointed. Fill my heart with a deep joy today so I, too will burst out with thanksgiving. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Fulfill Your Purpose

TODAY’S VERSE
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
II Thessalonians 1:11-12

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Did anyone ever ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Or have you ever taken a test to help you determine your passions and purpose in life? You could spend your whole life trying to find your purpose, that perfect job, or the fulfillment of your childhood dream and never come close to what Paul was praying for the Christians in Thessalonica. What a magnificent prayer. The good news is that you can pray the same thing for yourself. God has called you to serve Him, and you can pray with Paul “that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.” Can you imagine that? You see, this is God’s genuine desire for you to use His power to help you fulfill every good purpose of yours. The result is that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in your life! So, what good purpose do you have today? What act prompted by your faith will you engage in today? Might God empower you by His grace to do all He has called you to this day so that He will be glorified.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You can fulfill every good purpose of mine and every act prompted by my faith! What an exciting thought. Please help me understand what this really means in my life. Help me not to waste this precious life You have given me. Might I live it today for Your glory. In Jesus’name.
AMEN

The Privilege Of Worship

TODAY’S VERSE
Honor the LORD for his glory and strength. Honor the LORD for the glory of his name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
Psalms 29:1-2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why do you think God has put you and me here? You could certainly build a case for loving others. The Apostle John told us that God is love, so loving others is most certainly on God’s agenda. Evangelism must be a priority as well. Jesus left us with the great commission to go and make disciples of all nations. Personal worship is another purpose God has created us for. We were made to praise Him. What a privilege is ours to bow down before the Almighty creator of the Universe and worship Him. David said to “Honor the Lord” and “To worship Him in the splendor of His holiness.” It is nearly impossible to fathom what it is like to be before God in all His splendor and majesty, but that is what we are invited to do. Take the mountain tops, the streams, sunsets, ocean views, canyons, and any other images you have been privileged to see and let it equal one drop of water. Now put that drop in the ocean, and you will begin to see how our paltry earthly images compare to His splendor. So today, no matter where you are, stop and participate in one of the most sacred and unique purposes of our human experience. Right this moment, praise Him for who He is. Thank Him for all He has done. Worship Him in all His glory. He has invited you to come and adore Him. Don’t take His invitation for granted. It is a rare gift from God Himself. Worship Him with all your heart, soul, and mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come right now to worship You. Thank You for Your love for me. I bow before You this moment and adore You for all Your goodness. You are the true and living Almighty God, and I praise You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real Trust

TODAY’S VERSE
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
Jeremiah 17:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is one thing to say we trust someone; it is another to put confidence in them. A famous tightrope walker was going to cross Niagara Falls with a person in a wheelbarrow. He asked the crowd watching, “How many think I can make it with a person in the wheelbarrow to the other side?” Most of the people raised their hands. Then he said, “Who will sit in the wheelbarrow?” Oddly enough, no one volunteered. How often has God told us, “How many believe I can supply all your needs?” “How many think I love you and will help you overcome your struggles?” We quickly raise our hand and say, “Yes, Lord, I believe.” But when struggles come, when doubt raises its head, when God brings the wheelbarrow and says, “Jump in,” we slither to the back of the crowd. Genuine trust and true faith is acted out in hope and confidence. Might you go forth this day trusting God. Might you have all the faith you need to sit in the wheelbarrow. If anyone can get you to the other side, it is God your Father.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me put my faith in You. Help me trust You, really trust You. Help me have real confidence in Your resurrection power and hope in Your undying love for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
