What Do You Desire?

TODAY’S VERSE
I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead.
Philippians 3:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you aspire to? What desires do you have? It is an important question, but the answer is more important. The best desires are the ones that result in many benefits. What if you were granted a wish? Wouldn’t it make sense to ask for unlimited wishes? Paul’s desire was similar. He wanted something that would have a continuous impact on his life. He wanted to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead! He wrote, “Yes, everything else is worthless compared to the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake, I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with Him.”
Today, desire what can change and guide all of your life, knowing Christ and the His resurrection power.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, please help me. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead.
AMEN

All I Really Want

TODAY’S VERSE
Then I pray to you, O LORD. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.”
Psalms 142:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s not just what you pray that counts. The reason you pray is just as important. God loves you and knows your need before you pray. Listen to David’s despair and emotion when he prayed today’s verse. He was hiding in a cave and wrote, “I cry out to the LORD; I plead for the LORD’s mercy. I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought!” God heard more than David’s words. He felt David’s needs, and David knew it. That is why David could write, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.” The question is, “What do you want?” Today, know that God is your place of refuge. He knows your circumstance; turn to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I sometimes feel like no one gives me a passing thought. I start to despair, but You gently bid me come, and I come to You. Truly, You are my refuge. Today, I can say, “You are all I really want in life.”
AMEN

Don’t Pass By

TODAY’S VERSE
Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
Luke 10:36-37 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus answered with the story of the Good Samaritan. The story was about a man that was robbed and left for dead. Jesus told of a priest and a Levite, who because of their love for God and a fellow Jew, should have stopped and helped the wounded person. Instead, they both decided to pass by on the other side of the road. He then said that a Samaritan, an enemy of the Jews, stopped and took care of the situation. Jesus then asked, “Which one of the people was a neighbor to the victim?” The answer was, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus then commanded us to “Go and do likewise.” The questions for us are, “Who will we pass by today?” And, “If they are wounded, will we show mercy?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You care for the wounded. You desire mercy. Help me not to pass by those hurting on my path. Help me to help others as Jesus did.
AMEN

True Satisfaction

TODAY’S VERSE
Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.
Psalms 90:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How we start our morning can affect our whole day. Many suggest that we start our day with a regiment of Biblical reading and prayers. This is wonderful and will lead us into deep Spiritual understanding. But God is looking for more than understanding. He is looking for devotion. This is more than knowing His word. It is knowing Him. The Psalmist asked God to satisfy him with His unfailing love every morning. What if that was your desire? What if that was your accomplishment? Imagine getting up every morning and experiencing His love till you are deeply satisfied. Today you can. Stop and let your heart meditate on God’s unfailing love for you. Let it put a song in your heart and sing for joy over the fact that you are His and His love for you is unfailing.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, satisfy me every morning with Your unfailing love. May it cause my heart to sing for joy all my days. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Heaven and Earth

TODAY’S VERSE
Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.
Philippians 1:27 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get so involved in the minutia of this life that we forget that we have been born again into a new family. We forget that we have a whole new existence. We are now Heaven’s citizens, which should affect everything we do here. Paul tells us that above everything else, we must live as people of Heaven. We have dual citizenship! This should change the way we look at this world, the way we interpret events, and the way we live out our faith. Paul says it should result in living a life worthy of Christ’s grace and mercy toward us. Today, rejoice! You are a child of God and a citizen of His Kingdom! Let this reality shape the way you think and act.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for making me a citizen of Heaven. I am Your servant and pledge my allegiance to You and Your Kingdom here on earth. Help me live in a manner worthy of this Good News. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Pursue God

TODAY’S VERSE
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.
Psalms 23:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The poem “Hound of Heaven” by Francis Thompson depicts God as a relentless hound in its pursuit of the rabbit. No matter where the hare hides or runs, the hound will not quit until the rabbit is caught. I know the author was trying to convey that God, in His mercy, pursues us even though we run from Him. However, centuries earlier, David used a different metaphor more in keeping with the Scriptures. Rather than a hunter that seeks to destroy the hare, David talked of a Shepherd that loves his sheep. Instead of a gun to kill, the Shepherd uses a rod and staff to protect and comfort. Instead of pursuing with fear and torment, David writes, “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.” Both are right, God does pursue, but rest assured He is pursuing you with His love. Today, stop running. Pursue the one who pursues you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, lover of my soul. Forgive me for running from You. I turn to You today and proclaim with joy, “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.” Help me pursue You.
AMEN

Share Your Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
I Peter 3:15 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hope is looking at circumstances with desire, belief, and trust. It is having confidence in what you believe is going to happen, will happen.
The Bible is full of hope. Hope for God’s goodness. Hope in God’s love and mighty power. Hope in our eternal life with Him. We are to live in God’s glorious hope. And if we do, it makes sense that others would want to know about it. That is why Peter said we should always be ready to give the reason for our hope to everyone who asks about it. However, this begs the question, “Is anyone asking us about our hope?” If not, perhaps it does not show. The truth is many who believe in Christ live their lives no different than those who don’t. Today, let us examine our hearts. Are we hopeful? Are we full of desire, trust, and anticipation of what God will do today? If not, let’s repent. Today, ask God to fill your very being with hope so that others will ask you about it, and you can tell them the good news of Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for complaining, worrying, and the lack of hope I so often display. Fill my heart with hope today, so I can be a witness, and others would want to know more about You.
AMEN

True Spirituality

TODAY’S VERSE
We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are more important than others. And yet they are easy to miss. We get so busy living our life going from day to day coping when God offers us so much more. Paul knew how important it was to focus on our spiritual life, so he prayed that God would give the Colossians complete knowledge of His will. He prayed that God would give them spiritual wisdom and understanding. How often do we pray this way? Do we start our day out asking God to provide us with complete knowledge of His will? How much time do we spend trying to attain spiritual wisdom and understanding from the Lord? We should. Our spiritual life depends on it. When we do, Paul promises that the way we live will always honor and please the Lord, and our lives will produce every kind of good fruit as we learn to know God better and better. Today seek spiritual wisdom and understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask that You would, through the power of Your Holy Spirit, give me spiritual wisdom and understanding and complete knowledge of Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love Yourself

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Psalms 145:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If God is so merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry, and filled with unfailing love toward us, why aren’t we that way toward ourselves? Have you ever paid attention to your inner chatter when you don’t behave as you felt you should? Sometimes we verge on self-abuse. Where does that come from? Not from God. It is time we start to believe that God is as merciful and compassionate as David says. We must let God’s forgiveness, patience, love, and mercy toward us permeate our mind. When we start to see that God loves us that way, we will also begin to love ourselves. His love will compel us to believe that we are loveable and forgivable, helping us treat ourselves the way He does. Today, believe that the LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry, and filled with unfailing love. Now go and be that same way toward yourself.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for being merciful, compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Help me to be the same way toward myself.
AMEN

Faith And Love

TODAY’S VERSE
What is important is faith expressing itself in love.
Galatians 5:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It was hard enough trying to win people to Christ who had no idea of a monotheistic God. But to have to fight his fellow Christians over keeping the law was a real burden to Paul. In his letter to the Galatians, Paul told the Christians that Christ had set them free, not the law, and he encouraged them to live by the Spirit. He then stated what was real important; that is to have a faith that expresses itself in love. What a beautiful synopsis of our Christian life. Faith in Christ that results in Him loving others through us is our top priority. Today, ask God to increase your faith in ways that express your love to others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the death and resurrection of Christ. Please help me increase my faith and live a life that is an expression of Your love.
AMEN
