Inner Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our inward journey significantly affects our outward one. How we live is dependent on how we think and feel. If we live in the truth, if we know that we are loved, if we have the resilience to bounce back from painful emotions, we will find our outward journey one of peace and joy, the abundant life Christ talked about. However, if we allow life with its trauma to sicken our inner life, we will find ourselves living with festering emotional wounds, lies, and dysfunctional behavior. Paul had the cure to an unhealthy inner life. He believed that God, with everything He is, wants to influence everything we are. Therefore, Paul prayed that we would allow the Holy Spirit’s unlimited resources to empower us and give us inner strength. He prayed that we would trust Christ and let Him live at home in our hearts. He prayed that we would let our roots grow deep down into God’s love. If we do these things through prayer, meditation, and reflection, Paul promises that God Himself will keep us Spiritually strong.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please empower me with inner strength through Your Holy Spirit. Please make Your home in my heart and help my roots grow deep down into Your love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Faith, Hope, and Love

TODAY’S VERSE
We think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do people think of when they think of our life’s achievements? There are many good things we can do with our time, but not all are the best. God puts a premium on some goals more than others. In today’s verse, Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica, stressing the importance of their “faithful work, loving deeds, and enduring hope.” God has called us to love the world as He does. This means being faithful in loving others no matter how hard it is. It means filling our time in helping those around us all we can. Finally, loving the world means loving people, even when it is not easy and when there are not enough resources. Even when people reject the very love, we offer them. Today, when people think of us, might they think about our faithful work, loving deeds, and enduring hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, help me live for You. Help me be faithful in my serving You. Help me be loving in all I do. Finally, give me the ability to endure because of my hope in You.
AMEN

Be Amazed

Be Amazed

TODAY’S VERSE
All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What is this teaching? With authority and power, he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!”
Luke 4:36 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Are you amazed yet? Not everyone was. In today’s passage, when people heard Jesus’ teaching, witnessed His miracles, sensed His immense love, they ended up saying, “What authority and power!” Matthew tells a different story. He writes, “When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.” Isn’t that just like us? We worship, and we doubt. We trust, and we fear. We have hope, and we despair. What can make the difference? What can take us from doubt to worship? The answer is, spending time with Him. Those who were with Him, watching and listening, were amazed as they experienced His power and His authority. Today, let yourself be amazed; spend time with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come today to be amazed. I want to know You, know Your love, know Your power. Open my eyes, open my heart to all that You are. I come and worship You.
AMEN

Live Like Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Philippians 2:3-5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The world is looking for Jesus. The truth is that people love what Jesus stood for and how He lived His life. It is the way we, the church, live that turns them away from Christianity. Paul knew this. It was the love and grace of Jesus that consumed him, so he knew if we were going to make an impact in the world at all, if anyone around us were going to come to Jesus, then it would have to be through an accurate portrayal of the person we name our self after. If we are Christians, Paul says that we “must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” And what was this attitude? It was an attitude of love and selflessness. Paul said it this way, “Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Today, let us humble ourselves and live as Jesus would. Might He live in and through us so much that people would have to take a second look, mistaking our love for the Lord Himself.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me to live the way You would. Help me have the same attitude that You do. Help me live for You so much that those around me will be compelled to know You as I do.
AMEN

Living love

TODAY’S VERSE
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul starts Romans 12 by telling us to present ourselves as a living sacrifice to God. Then he shares how we can do it. We serve God sacrificially by loving one another. It is the Christian trademark. It is the distinguishing call of Jesus to all His disciples. If we follow Jesus, then we must be devoted to one another in brotherly love. This is a love that puts others above ourselves. It is this form of community that the world is looking for. It is this kind of love that completes us as human beings. This unconditional love that we offer each other allows us to mature into the type of people God has called us to be. Praise God that you have been called into this wonderful fraternity called His church. Bless God that you can be part of a fellowship where you love each other dearly, putting the needs of each other above your own. Today follow Jesus, devoting yourself to loving others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for Your love for me. Thank You that You have called me to the same kind of love. Help me devote myself to others around me. Help me honor others above myself. Help me love like You do.
AMEN

Zeal

TODAY’S VERSE
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Romans 12:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
As much as we want, we cannot live on last week’s provisions. Sooner or later, we need to do something to replace the food and water that we have already consumed. Paul knew that this was true of our spiritual life. We may have had a dramatic “born-again” experience, but sooner or later, the “honeymoon” wears off. We may have had a mountain top experience of worship and revival but soon we come back home. There needs to be more. We need consistent daily growth and maturity in our spiritual life. But maturing doesn’t come naturally. If we are going to grow in Christ, we must decide every day to be proactive. We must be zealous about our spiritual life. It is this zeal that causes us to pray, meditate, and worship. It is this zealous following of Jesus Christ that raises our spiritual fervor resulting in serving Him with abandonment. Today, determine not to be lacking in zeal about your spiritual life. Decide to do whatever it takes to keep your spiritual fervor, serving Him with all you have.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live for You. Help me be zealous in all that You ask me to do. Help me know You, love You, worship You and serve You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit I pray! In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real worship

TODAY’S VERSE
No, this is the kind of fasting I want – Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.
Isaiah 58:6-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What would God say about us at eleven o’clock on Sunday? You know, when we meet to worship. We sing our praise songs, we listen to the preaching, and we pass the offering plates. And then we go home, back to our own business, until we do it all over again a week later. All the while, just miles from the front door of our church, there are hundreds if not thousands of people hurting. Some hungry, some depressed, some broke, some addicted, some suicidal, some sleeping in their car. These all have families who are also hurting because of their plight. How many fathers and mothers are broken-hearted over the plight of their children? How many children suffer because of the plight of their parents? And yet we worship. And then drive right by on our way home. When is the church going to listen to Jesus when He said, “Go into all the world?” not “Come into my house.” Surely we need to worship God in song and praise. Yes, we must feed on the preaching of His word. But not at the expense of ignoring what else God commands us to do! Jesus said it best when he saw the crowds and had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Today, worship God by loving those hurting all around you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for only worshiping in Your house and not worshipping in Your world. Forgive me for ignoring the glory you receive when I help those in need. Help me worship you with my love for others.
AMEN

Living For Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
II Peter 1:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter shared how we are to live. He writes, “Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness.” This is living out our faith. This is experiencing Christ and allowing Him to live through us. He says it this way, “The more you grow in these qualities, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of Christ.” Your experiential knowledge of God will help you live for Him better. That’s because as you get to know Him, your personality, behavior, and desires will be more like His. His power, knowledge, and, most of all, His love will be exhibited in your life. Today, choose to know Him more so you can live for Him better.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me be more productive and useful in my knowledge of You and live the kind of life You want me to. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:9-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When Paul decided to write about love, he didn’t mix words. He starts by telling us to quit being phony and really love each other. We are to hate what is wrong and do good. We are to have a real genuine affection for each other and not fake it. We are to delight in honoring each other! This kind of love Paul is writing about is not lazy. It serves others. And what is love without encouragement? Paul, who knew real hardships, modeled encouraging love and asked us to do the same. Love helps us to rejoice in hope, be patient in trouble, and pray when things aren’t going our way. Finally, when those we are supposed to love are in need, then love insists that we help them. Love is eager to practice hospitality. Today, let’s commit ourselves to real love, the love Paul is writing about. Let us love those around us the way Christ would love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me love the way You love. Help me love with action, not just words.
AMEN

It’s Your Choice

TODAY’S VERSE
So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering His glorious miracles and obeying His commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors-stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
Psalms 78:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have choices. In today’s verse, the new generation had to choose whether they were going to be rebellious, unfaithful, and stubborn toward God as their ancestors or be different. Thankfully, they appreciated God’s goodness and decided to follow Him. It started with a choice, a choice to break from their ancestral influence and follow God. What’s your choice? Are you going to be stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful to God like the ancestors? Or are you going to remember His glorious miracles, love, and grace and live for God? Perhaps you are not sure and don’t want to choose. However, not choosing is a choice not to live for Him. The good news is that it’s not too late; a new pathway is only a choice away- Today, choose to follow God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the freedom to choose. Thank You that by Your grace, it is never too late to follow You. That is what I want; I want to follow You. Help me to that end.
AMEN
