Intimacy With God

TODAY’S VERSE
Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.
Hebrews 10:22

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God desires fellowship with us. He created us to have an intimate and loving relationship with Him. In his book, “Walking With God,” John Eldredge shares, “Intimacy with God is the purpose of our lives. It is why God created man. Not simply to believe in him, though that is a good beginning. Not only to obey him, though that is a higher life still. God created us for intimate fellowship with himself, and in doing so, he established the goal of our existence—to know him, love him, and live our lives in an intimate relationship with him.” Jesus, through His death on the cross, provided a way for intimacy with God. So much so, that the author of Hebrews invites us to “go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him.” We have been invited to know God and share with Him our deepest thoughts, concerns, fears, desires, and imaginations. And better yet, God wants to share His thoughts with us. What a great relationship we can have with God, but will you take time out of your schedule to spend with Him? Will you share with God from your heart? Will you quiet yourself to hear His voice? God has given you the heart to recognize Him. Will you use it?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that You have given me the heart to recognize You as Lord. Help me share my inner thoughts with You. Help me to know You, trust You, and live my life in an intimate relationship with You.

Do It Again, Lord!

TODAY’S VERSE
Give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.
Acts 4:29-35 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Is there any wonder why the Church grew so mightily in the first century? Men and women who had known Jesus Christ, who had experienced mighty miracles and had seen Jesus rise from the dead, were now filled with the Holy Spirit. They were on a mission to share God’s forgiveness and grace with everyone they could. How does today’s passage compare to your church or personal Christian experience? Erwin McManus, in his book, “The Barbarian Way,” writes, “Somehow Christianity has become a non-mystical religion. It is about reasonable faith. If we believe the right things, we are orthodox. Frankly, whether we ever actually connect to God or experience His undeniable presence has become incidental if not irrelevant.” Sadly, what McManus is saying is true. Today let us repent of our “reasonable faith” and join those in Acts asking God to fill us with His Spirit and give us boldness in sharing about Christ. Let us ask God for His healing power and miraculous signs and wonders. Finally, let us share with those in need, be united in our hearts and minds, and testify powerfully of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. May it be said of us that “God’s great blessing was upon them all.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive us for powerless orthodoxy. Forgive us for our lack of faith and sacrifice. We pray for holy boldness in our church. We pray for Your miraculous hand to come upon us and do mighty works. We pray for the unity of hearts and minds. Might the places we worship be shaken. In Jesus’ Name.

Protect My Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily.
Hebrews 3:12-13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy for our hearts to wander. Temptation, disappointment, deferred hope, loss, heartache, lust, greed, anger, jealousy, Spiritual apathy, and isolation are just some of the ways that our hearts can become sinful and unbelieving. We must do all we can in order not to be deceived and lose heart. Paul shares three ways to protect our hearts. He writes, “Fix your thoughts on Jesus.” Fixing our thoughts on Jesus will keep us from “heart” failure. He will help keep our hearts at peace and joy. In Philippians, Paul writes, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Here we see that the protection of our heart starts with our head. We need to fix our thoughts on Jesus and those things that build us up. In today’s verse, Paul gives another way to protect our hearts. He writes, “Encourage one another daily.” Isolation can be a “kiss of death” to our hearts. We get alone in our pity party, and soon we find ourselves feeling helpless, hopeless, and unbelieving. Instead, we need to fellowship with others. Today, find a friend and share your thoughts. Let them encourage you, pray for you, and help you with your burden. You can then do the same for someone else. Whatever else you do today, protect your heart!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for the times I do not guard my heart. Help me to fix my thoughts on Jesus and those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Help me to seek the fellowship of others that can, in turn, help me and encourage me. Lord, protect my heart, I pray. In Jesus Name.

His Grace Is Enough

TODAY’S VERSE
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes it is hard to hang on. With tragic news, delayed answers, unfulfilled dreams, and disappointing outcomes; it’s easy to get discouraged. But God knows what we are going through. He invites us to share our cares with Him. We can call upon God’s great love, goodness, and mercy to sustain us. Even Jesus knew what it was to throw Himself at the mercy of God. When facing His eminent torturous death, He cried out to His Father, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” And though He died, God’s grace never left Him. The Father took the cup of death from Him when He rose from the dead. What is it you need relief from? What has you down and discouraged? What is it that seems so overwhelming? Bring it to Jesus. Lay your burden at the foot of the cross and hear Jesus say to you, what He said to Paul, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” Might you find His grace enough for you today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that no matter what my circumstances, You promise that Your grace will be sufficient for me. Your wisdom will guide me. Your love will embrace me and draw me to Your side. I choose to live my life today in that reality. In Jesus’ name.

The God Who Is There

TODAY’S VERSE
But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 4:29 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever sought after God? There are many different things we seek every day, some good and some not-so-good. But the one thing that will make all the difference in the world is seeking after Him. God can meet the longing of your heart. He can satisfy your every need. The secret is seeking God with all your heart and soul. It cannot be a half-hearted search but rather a desperate longing, a deep commitment to know and love God. It is nothing less than a consecration of your life, passions, and purpose. When you seek God in this way, you will find Him. Start today. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to make you aware of His presence. Spend time with Him. Meditate on His word and come to Him in prayer. When you do, you will find out that the Psalmist was right when he wrote, “You will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You better. I need You and want to know You with all my heart and soul. I come today to seek an intimate relationship with You and ask that You help me. Please show me the way, guide me to Yourself. In Jesus’ name.

Your Story

TODAY’S VERSE
I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. — Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is your testimony? What can you tell others about God? What have you allowed God to do in your heart, mind, and life that others would want to know about? David shared his enthusiasm about God with everyone who listened. Why? Because David had an incredible relationship with Jehovah. He trusted in God with his whole heart and saw God as a righteous God, who met his every need. In this Psalm, David is an older man. Even in his last days, David proclaimed God’s power and mighty miracles to the new generation coming after him. Today more than ever, people need the Savior. They need to see Christians with a vibrant relationship with a loving, all-powerful God. What is your story? What can you say about God’s miraculous power? What can you say about God’s faithfulness and provision? So many people never enter a church. They never read the Bible. But every day, they are watching your life, listening to your conversation. They may never read the Gospel, according to Matthew or Mark. The only chance they have is to see the Gospel according to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me. Help me to share Your love with others. Help me to be faithful in my witness of Your power and provision in my life. I pray that Your Gospel would be alive and well in my story and that many would witness You in me and believe. By Your grace and for Your glory.

Love As God Loves

TODAY’S VERSE
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
I John 4:8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of ways we can try to show that we are Christians. We can go to church. We can attend religious programs. We can pray before meals. We can follow certain rituals. While these may be important, the real evidence that God is alive in our hearts is our love for other people. Over and over again, the Bible teaches that God is not interested in our outward appearances, our sacrifices, or our religious ceremonies. He is interested in our loving behavior. Are we forgiving, just, caring, kind, and benevolent toward our families and those around us? If not, then we need to take time and get to know God better. Knowing God is transformational knowledge. John said that if we don’t love, we don’t know God. In the book of James, we read, “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” If the love of God is in our hearts, it will compel us to love. Paul shares this kind of love in I Corinthians 13. He writes, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” We say we know God, but does our behavior back us up? If not, perhaps we only know “about” God. Today, spend time with Him and let knowing Him translate into loving others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that my actions don’t always confirm my belief in You. You are love, and yet there have been many times that I have not loved others. Forgive me. Help me today to know you better so I will be filled with Your love and go out and love others. In Jesus’ name.

Come Boldly To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.
Hebrews 10:21-22

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In the Old Testament, the High Priest offered sacrifices to God for the forgiveness of the sins of Israel. Each year, the High Priest would go through the ceremony, waiting upon God to see if indeed the sacrifice would be accepted. Then Jesus came. God sent His own Son, Jesus, to be the new Great High Priest. It was His blood, shed on the cross, that paid for our sins once and for all. No more annual ritual. It was finished when Christ died and rose again from the dead. Jesus opened the door for us to have a deep and personal relationship with God. In today’s passage, it says, “Since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.” Have you ever stopped to consider what this really means? It means that you have a personal invitation from God to come right into His presence anytime that you want. Today, don’t just read His word. Don’t just pray. Today, come boldly to God’s throne and enjoy His presence. He has forgiven your sins and is waiting for you to come and know Him, fellowship with Him, worship Him, and live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Your only son, Jesus, making it possible to forgive all my sins. Thank You for allowing me to come right into your presence. Help me, Lord, to know You better. Help me today to fully understand Your love for me. I pray this in Jesus’ name.

Which Way Do I Go?

TODAY’S VERSE
Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.
Psalms 77:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life’s pathways are not always smooth. There are many times when the terrain is rough at best. What do we do then? Thank God He is the one who promised to get us through to the other side. In today’s passage, we see that God was able to lead the Israelites through what seemed to be an impossible pathway. The Jews had left Egypt and were heading to the promised land when they ran smack into the Red Sea. I am sure that many of the people wondered what kind of path God had led them on. But the scriptures are clear; God had led them on a road through the Red Sea, a path that ran through the mighty waters. It was a road no one but God knew was there. He offers the same to us. He is the great shepherd. He is the one who can make our crooked paths straight. He is the one who turned the Red Sea into dry ground. So, what terrain are you on? What is your path like? Is it steep, with sharp rocks, high cliffs, and loose footing? Does it take you through dark forests and thorny underbrush? We sang a song as little children that you can take comfort in. It said, “My God knows the way through the wilderness. All I have to do is follow.” Today, choose to trust God. Follow Him. He has a path you know nothing about. He is the Great Shepherd; He will get you home.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know the journey I am on. You know the path I am following. Please guide me, Lord. Help me know which way to go. You are the Great Shepherd, be my shepherd today, I pray.

Restore me

TODAY’S VERSE
Restore us, O God; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Psalms 80:3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Children of Israel had abandoned God. They turned their back on God and began to worship Idols. God was angry at their betrayal. But a few of the people cried out to God. They repented and pleaded with God for mercy. The author cries three times in this Psalm, “Restore us, O God; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.” And God did. He has done the same for me. How often have I turned my back on God with unbelief, doubt, fear, and even apathy? How many times have I wandered far from God, pursuing other objects of affection, ignoring His love for me? And yet, God loved me when I was farthest from Him? I snarled at His hand of affection, yet He reached down to me again.  Likewise, God hears your cries. He is waiting for you to call out to Him. He loves to answer the prayer of repentance. Might your prayer be today, “Turn me again to Yourself, Oh God; make Your face shine upon me that I might be saved.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, restore my soul to You. Forgive me for the times I have wandered far from You, and have mercy upon me today. Shine Your face upon me that I might sense Your love, mercy, and forgiveness. Lead me back to You. In Jesus’ name.
