Intimacy With God

TODAY’S VERSE
“I will give them hearts that recognize me as the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me wholeheartedly.”
Jeremiah 24:7

“Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.”
Hebrews 10:22

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God desires fellowship with us. He created us to have an intimate and loving relationship with Him. In his book, “Walking With God”, John Eldredge shares, “Intimacy with God is the purpose of our lives. It is why God created man. Not simply to believe in him, though that is a good beginning. Not only to obey him, though that is a higher life still. God created us for intimate fellowship with himself, and in doing so he established the goal of our existence—to know him, love him, and live our lives in an intimate relationship with him.” Jesus, through His death on the cross, provided a way for intimacy with God. So much so, that the author of Hebrews invites us to “go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him.” We have been invited to really know God and share with Him our deepest thoughts, concerns, fears, desires and imaginations. And better yet, God wants to share His thoughts with us. What a glorious relationship we can have with God, but will you take time out of your schedule to spend with Him? Will you share with God from your heart? Will you quiet yourself in order to hear His voice? God has given you a heart to recognize Him, will you use it?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that You have given me a heart to recognize You as Lord. Help me use this heart and share with You my inner self. Help me to know You and trust You and live my life in an intimate relationship with you.
AMEN

Be Holy

TODAY’S VERSE
“So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy.”’
I Peter 1:13-16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Holiness is a difficult subject to grasp. The Pharisees felt they knew what it was but fell short of what Christ came to teach. They thought they were Holy by obeying the Old Testament law and all the hundreds of laws they created. Instead, Christ came to earth to die, so we could substitute His death for our sins. This is salvation. Once we accept the gift of salvation we become Holy in the sight of God. We are born again as His children. As children we are motivated to live in accordance to our Fathers wishes. We live to please Him who gave Himself for us. Peter says we should live as obedient children. Le Ann Payne in her book, “Listening Prayer” writes, ‘“ Only in union with Him, listening to Him and carrying out His orders, are we holy. – Those who treasure holiness and produce its fruits are the poor in spirit, the humble of the earth. They are fond of the Jesus Prayer. In one way or another they pray it over and over: ‘Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.’ They are quick to acknowledge their pride and lack of humility, repenting of it daily. – Holiness is both a quality we are given and a way. It is the way of remaining in Christ, of walking in the presence of God.’” Peter tells us to think clearly and exercise self control like obedient children, not slipping back into our old ways. This comes from a relationship with God through scriptures, meditation, prayer and fellowship. Pray and ask God to reveal to you how you can live your life more holy today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your provision of salvation. I accept this gift and desire to live more for You. I desire to be Holy and pray for wisdom and strength to be what You want me to be. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

How Should We Live?

TODAY’S VERSE
“And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.”
Titus 2:11-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes we lose focus. It is easy to get distracted and forget what life is really about. We get our priorities mixed up. However, in today’s passage Paul makes it quite simple. He instructs us to “turn from living out godless and sinful pleasures.” Paul calls them pleasures so it can be a difficult choice to turn away. However, he reminds us that they are godless and sinful pleasures so the end never justifies the means. Instead, we are to live in this world with hope, wisdom, righteous living and a devotion to God. But how can we do this? How can we possibility resist godless and sinful pleasures and live with hope, wisdom, righteous living and devotion to God? There is only one way. Paul ends this passage with the answer. He writes, “Christ Himself gave His life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.” What glorious provision. What a mighty plan. Today let this be your reality. Let this thought permeate everything you do, “God loves you so much that He sent His son Jesus Christ to die on the cross and resurrect from the dead so you could be free from every kind of sin, totally cleansed and committed to doing good deeds.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the hope, wisdom and righteousness that You give me. Thank You for freeing me from every kind of sin and totally cleansing me. Help me today to turn from godless and sinful pleasures and devote myself to You and the good deeds You created me for. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

An Offering

TODAY’S VERSE
“I will sacrifice a voluntary offering to you; I will praise your name, O LORD, for it is good.”
Psalms 54:6

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
Romans 12:1

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When is a sacrifice not a sacrifice? When it is an offering. Is there anything that would really be considered a sacrifice when it pertains to someone you truly love? Did a father who laid down his life protecting his family make a sacrifice? No. Wouldn’t he joyfully lay down his life as an offering, in order for his family to live? A mother doesn’t really sacrifice her own chance at possessions in order for her children to have good and nice things. It is an honor, a true offering. She joyfully gives up her own pleasure for her children. Likewise, when we truly understand the unlimited love that God has for us, when we taste of the inexhaustible grace and mercy He extends toward us over and over again, how can surrendering ourselves to Him be a sacrifice? No, it is an offering, something we gladly give. This is what David meant when he wrote, “I will sacrifice a voluntary “offering” to you; I will praise your name, O LORD, for it is good.” Likewise, Paul pleads with us to give our very lives as an sacrificial “offering” to our Lord God Almighty. Know that today, as you live your life for Him in a Holy manner, your very act of living for Him is an offering pleasing to Him. You are gladly making an offering to God because of all He means to you. This is the true way to worship Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for all that You are and have done for me. Thank You for Your love, mercy and grace that You have freely extended to me. I count it an honor to be loved by You and gladly submit to You as Lord. I come now and offer my life this day and every day to you.
AMEN

Stand Firm

TODAY’S VERSE
“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you.”
I Corinthians 15:58

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”
John 14:1

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In life we will have trials. We will have struggles. To grow is to stretch ourselves. With this come risks. So we step out in faith; and even then, we can have times of fear, doubt and anxiety. Many times we avoid conflict, hide from our struggles or simply try to escape pain through various ways. We can simply try and ignore our pressures but sooner or later avoidance won’t work anymore. We have to face the situation we find ourselves in. The good news is that God is faithful. He knows our struggles, He knows our limitations. Through Paul the Apostle, God encourages us to stand firm and to let nothing move us. We can do this because of the love and power of God. Even Jesus knew that in this life we would have tribulation so He encourages us not to let our hearts be troubled. Why? Because we believe in God.  It is not just what we believe, it is who we believe in! God is almighty. He is all loving. And God is for us. He loves us. He is our strength. So today, put all your trust in God. Stand firm, exercise your faith and give all your struggles, trials and temptations to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know all about my situation. You know my worries, fears and anxious thoughts. Help me stand firm. Help my heart not to be troubled. I do believe in You, dear God. I come now and trust You with all my life.
AMEN

Forgive Me Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“Have you not brought this on yourselves by forsaking the LORD your God when he led you in the way?”
Jeremiah 2:17

“For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.”
Psalms 51:3-4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There comes a time when we need to agree with God and own up to our sinfulness. We can try to skirt around the issue, blame others, make excuses but at the end of the day, it is our sins that have separated us and God. Jeremiah tried to tell the Israelites this. They had wandered far from God by making unholy alliances with other nations and worshipping their Idols. God brought ruin to Israel and Jeremiah let them know that they brought the persecution on themselves. King David had his own sins to deal with and God sent him the Prophet Nathan to show him the error of his ways. David repented and agreed with God about the evil that he did. David, however, did not let everything end there. David knew God and that he could count on His compassion. That is why the rest of the passage is such an encouragement. In Psalms 51: 1-2, David cries out to God,
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” He ends in verse seventeen writing, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” Make this your hearts’ theme today. Is there something between you and God? If so, come to God with a broken and repentant heart. Confess your sins to Him and He will blot them out of existence.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I have often wandered far from you. I come to You today and ask You to have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. According to Your great compassion forgive me and cleanse me from all my sins. In Jesus Name I pray.
AMEN

Who Have You Been With?

TODAY’S VERSE
“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
Acts 4:13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever noticed how deeply influenced we can be by those that we spend time with? Reading books by the same author will deeply influence you to their way of thinking. People who have been married for a long time become more and more alike. A student becomes much like their favorite teacher and a disciple of martial arts much like their sensei. Today’s passage tells us that those that were arresting Peter and John were astonished at how much influence Jesus had on these men. How about you? Can your family tell who you have been spending time with? Who do those at your work believe you are inspired by? Today, start to build a deeper relationship with Christ. Spend time with Jesus and let Him influence your mind and behavior. Let Christ teach you, guide you and direct your path. When you do, other’s will be astonished and be able to tell you have been with Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I want to spend time with You. I want my life to be permeated with You so that others may recognize it and desire the same thing for their life. Teach me, guide me, mold me I pray. In Jesus name.
AMEN

His Perfect Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Isaiah 26:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you think about? Where do you fix your thoughts? God expects us to consider what we think and judge it according to His word. Trouble comes into our life and we begin to fear. When it does we have a choice to make. Will we remain in fear? Will we let it escalate into panic? Or will we obey today’s passage and trust in God, fixing our thoughts on Him? When we do, He promises us peace. Not just any peace, His perfect peace. It is the same way with anger, jealously, doubt and a hundred other thoughts that come into our life everyday. Today, when negative thoughts come to your mind begin a new habit. Trade them in for peace. How? By giving the thoughts to God and then choose to trust in Him by fixing your thoughts on His love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me trade my negative thinking for your perfect peace. Today, help me to fix all my thoughts on you.
AMEN

The Lord Almighty

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is amazing to see the difference one sentence can make. Especially when it carries such an important message. But if this passage is such a revelation, why do most of walk around discouraged, overwhelmed and stressed out with life issues? What does it take to make a sentence go from the head to the heart? How can focusing on the reality of Almighty God in our life make a difference? How would waking tomorrow morning, conscious of what David is expressing in this verse, change our plans or behavior? What would you do different knowing that the Lord Almighty is right there with you? The reality is that God is with us. He is our fortress, He is Almighty. Might this truth sink in and cause us to live accordingly.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me aware of Your presence. Help me to see You in all Your power and glory. Help me trust You for everything I do this day. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Not Ashamed

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
II Timothy 2:15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have choices to make every day. Today we can choose to live for God or to live for ourselves. Even if we choose to live for God we will still have to make that choice each and every time we come to a decision that could potentially take us away from living the way He wants us to. Will we do the right thing or not? That is why Paul says to “do our best” at living out our Christian life. It is not easy to resist temptations, go the extra mile, love the unlovely, put others before ourselves; yet this is the life God has called us to. He has called us to be a good worker that will not be ashamed when examined, one that will be approved of. A worker who knows God’s word and can apply it correctly to their actions. Thankfully we don’t have to live the way God wants us to in our own power. We have the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us. Today call upon the Holy Spirit to fill you, guide you and help you to “do your best to present yourself to God as one approved.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live for you as a workman who does not be ashamed. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and empower me to honor you in everything I do today.
AMEN
