Fear Not

TODAY’S VERSE
“When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, ‘If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”’
Exodus 13:17

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself.
Philippians 1:27-28

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
James 4:7-8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live in two worlds. The Spiritual world is real and we are at war. We are at war, not only for our own Spiritual life, but for the salvation of the world. In battle there is plenty opportunity for fear. God knew this, so He did not send the Hebrews on the most direct route to the Promised Land. God knew if the Israelites saw battle to early in their commitment they would be tempted to run and return to Egypt. Paul also knew our temptation to fear and encourages us to live like citizens of Heaven, standing together in one Spirit and purpose fighting together for the faith! In his book, “When Heaven Invades Earth” Bill Johnson writes, “When we refuse fear, the enemy becomes terrified. A confident heart is a sure sign of his ultimate destruction and our present victory! Do not fear – ever. Return to the promises of God, spend time with people of faith, and encourage one another with the testimonies of the Lord. Praise God for who God is until fear no longer knocks at the door. This is not an option, for fear actually invites the enemy to come to kill, steal and destroy.”  The good news is that James tells us to resist the Devil, his lies and fear tactics and the Devil will flee from us. More importantly, James gives us the real Spiritual secret to overcoming fear. He tells us to run to God and God Himself will come close to us. Today, resist fear and submit yourself to God. Ask Him to use you this day for His purposes. Ask Him to give you all the courage and strength to do His will and He will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know that this is another day and I need Your strength. I want to do Your will in my life today and I pray that You will help me resist Satan and his lies. Help me to renounce all fear and to run to You. I come now Lord, running to Your loving and strong arms, thanking You that You will draw close to me. I go forward now in Your strength and power to do what You would have me do today. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Trust, Delight, Commit

TODAY’S VERSE
“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.”
Psalms 37:3-5

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Attitude is everything. How we react to situations makes all the difference in the world. David knew this and God shared with him the secret to spiritual success. First, when circumstances arise, we are to trust in the Lord. We need to move ahead in faith. But even going forward in faith, if we want to experience  the joy in the journey, we need to take the time to delight in God. Getting to know Him, building a relationship and learning to really enjoy living for God will keep us through the difficult times. Secondly, we need to come to God with total commitment. How many times do we start out with trust and delight in God, but when things go sour, or when there seems to be no relief in sight, we give up. Committing everything to God means we trust Him for the long run. Today we can start our journey with the attitude that David had. Today we can bring everything to God and trust, delight and commit.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me with my attitude. I  come to You today and trust You with my life. Help me know You and delight in You. Lord, I commit everything I am and have to You and thanking You that You will indeed help me. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Contentment

TODAY’S VERSE
“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.”
I Timothy 6: 6-8

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What if the world really believed today‘s passage? How far would corruption get? How about envy, jealously, bribery? If contentment was our goal instead of wealth, fame or one-upmanship how much better would the world be? How better would our life be? But why would the world do this if the church isn’t? When is the last time you heard a sermon on contentment? Instead, how many times do we think a person who is successful in business should be our spiritual leader? A person in a lesser station in life could be very devout in their faith yet never be considered an eligible leader. This is simply wrong. Paul is teaching us true Kingdom standards. He is saying that being Godly and having contentment is true wealth in the Kingdom’s currency. If we have our basic needs met it is not wrong to be satisfied with that and seek to devote our time to Spiritual pursuits. In today’s world, most of us have an opportunity to make a good living. Some will make an extraordinary amount of money and have what the world calls success, but all of us can have contentment. All of us can be rich in the kingdom of God. Today let’s find it in our hearts to be thankful and pray that God would teach us more about contentment.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I have so much to be thankful for, yet I wrestle with being content. Help me understand your values. Help me to strive after Godliness. Teach me about true contentment, so I may have life’s true wealth.
AMEN

You Choose

TODAY’S VERSE
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”
Deuteronomy 30:19

“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve.”
Joshua 24:15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our life is full of choices. Everyday we make dozens of them. What are we going to eat? What responses are we going to give to the many questions we are asked? How are we going to respond to the various circumstances we find our self in? However, some of the choices we make are serious, very serious. They are between life and death. Some choices are about our physical life but many choices are of a more spiritual nature. Moses tells us that we have a choice between life and death, blessings and curses. God then pleads with us, through Moses, saying, “Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” How serious is that? It is enough to cause you to freeze from making any choice, but that won’t help. You see in Spiritual issues, sometimes not choosing is really a negative choice. Joshua helps us with our everyday choices by forcing us to consider the primary choice. If we make the primary choice, many of the other choices come much easier. Joshua asks us to choose who will be the Lord of our life, who are we going to serve? If not God, then choose something, but something you will choose. Out this choice, will come a host of other choices. Today choose life. Choose to follow God and His word. Surrender your will and commit your way to Him and He will direct your choices.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today and choose to follow You. I need Your help in every choice I make. I want to choose life in all that I do. Please guide me and direct my choices. In Jesus name I pray.
AMEN

The Fruit Of The Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
Galatians 5:22-23

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I think of our human propensity for anger, confusion, impatience, harshness, lack of control and impulsiveness, I am amazed at God’s solution. Our humanness, a result of man’s fallen condition, has been trumped by God’s Holy Spirit. What a plan. God gives us a body in which we house our personality with enough room for His Holy Spirit. The result is the ability for the Holy Spirit to produce in us new attitudes, motivations and behaviors. Paul calls it fruit. What a great analogy – the Holy Spirit alive in us, growing into a beautiful fruit tree. The fruit that the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. You don’t have to make an apple tree produce apples. When watered, nourished and receiving adequate sunlight an apple tree produces beautiful luscious apples. Likewise, you don’t have to manufacture the fruit of the Spirit; rather, you begin reading and meditating on His Holy word and spending time in relationship with God through confession and prayer and the Holy Spirit will generate the results. Begin today to nourish your Spiritual life and let the Holy Spirit produce its fruit.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I desire the fruit of the Holy Spirit to be evident in my life. Help me to read and meditate on your word. Help me to relate to you in prayer and confession. Help me, Holy Spirit, live the life you want me to. Produce your fruit in my life, even today.
AMEN

Seek Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.”
Proverbs 2:1-5

“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.” declares the LORD.”
Jeremiah 29:12-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a mystery to knowing God. His love draws us to Him. God has made it abundantly clear that “whosoever will”, may come to Him. But this is the beginning not the end. If we are to follow Him, be His disciple, take knowing Him seriously, then He demands preeminence in our life. Solomon knew this. He prayed for Godly wisdom. He sought it more than anything else God could offer him and God gave it to Him. He says that it is the same for us. We must want to know God more than anything else. We need to “call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding”. He assures us that knowing God will come when we look for Him like we would look for silver and search for Him like we would search for hidden treasure. Jeremiah says it another way. He says that we will find God when seek Him with all our heart. How much have you wanted to know God? What treasure are you seeking? What has your heart sought after? If God is going to be a serious part of your life, if you are going to live in His wisdom, then you must make knowing Him a priority. God didn’t say we had to be smart, wise, rich, talented or gifted to know Him. The only requirement is desire. Turn your desire toward God. When you do, He promises, “I will be found by you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I admit I have let my desire wander. I have sought for fools gold. I have put other priorities ahead of knowing You. I come today and seek You with all my heart. Father, I yearn for Your wisdom. I desire to have understanding. I want to know You more than anything else. Teach me, guide me, lead me. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus.
AMEN

Keep It Simple

TODAY’S VERSE
“Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Matthew 6:32-33

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can really complicate life, can’t we? There are so many motivations that keep us crazy with demands. There are so many things that we think we must do. We have lost all sense of simplicity. Jesus comes along and would say to us, “Stop the insanity! Stop filling your life with false needs and let me fulfill your real need.” You see Jesus knows the “one-thing.” He knows what is really important and He offers it to all His followers. He said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” The real secret to this life is found in the next. If we want success in this life then we need to live in His Kingdom, instead of our own. We need to live in this world with heaven’s priority. God really does love you. Trust Him, live for Him and He promises that He will give you everything you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my name. You know who I am. You also know my needs. Thank You Father that You promised that if I seek Your Kingdom above everything else You will give me everything I need. So I come to You now Father and ask that You would help me live for you. I entrust my needs to You. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Real Trust

TODAY’S VERSE
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”
Jeremiah 17:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is one thing to say we trust someone it is another to put confidence in them. A famous tightrope walker was going to cross Niagara Falls with a person in a wheelbarrow. He asked the crowd watching, “How many think I can make it with a person in the wheelbarrow to the other side? Most of the people rose their hand. Then he said, “Who will sit in the wheelbarrow?” No on volunteered. How many times has God said to us, “How many believe I can supply all your needs?” “How many think I love you and will help you overcome your struggles?” We quickly raise our hand and say, “Yes, Lord I believe.” But when struggles come, when doubt raises it head, when God brings the wheelbarrow and says, “Jump in”, we slither to the back of the crowd. True trust, true faith is acted out in hope and confidence. Might you go forth this day trusting in God. Might you have all the faith you need to sit in the wheelbarrow. If anyone can get you to the other side it is God your Father.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me put my faith in You. Help me trust You, really trust You. Help me have real confidence in Your resurrection power and hope in Your undying love for me.
AMEN

Boast About God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is what the LORD says: ‘Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth.”’
Jeremiah 9:23-24

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” This is one of the beatitudes that Jesus taught us. God puts a premium on humility. This runs counter to worldly wisdom. In modern society there is a premium put on self reliance. Kudos are given to the person who is a success. With success comes bragging rights. We live for that illusive fifteen minutes of fame. Why? Because we want recognition. We want to feel important and appreciated. So we boast. But God offers a better way. He says not to boast in our wisdom, power or riches, instead we are to boast in the fact that we know Him and understand Him as the Lord. What makes this so ironic is that the very thing that we are looking for, love and acceptance, is found in Jesus Christ. We get to boast in the fact that God loves us with unfailing love. We don’t have to earn it. We don’t have to perform to certain expectations. He loves us unconditionally. So today, rejoice in all that He has done for you. Bless Him for His love for you. Boast in the fact that God is a gracious and loving God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for bragging about my own abilities. Forgive me for  putting such a high importance on my own possessions and accomplishments. Instead, I praise You dear Lord, for Your unfailing love for me. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Fear Not

TODAY’S VERSE
“I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.”
Psalm 34:4-7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times a day do you fear something? You get called into the office and you are sure you are going to get fired. Your child is late and your mind goes crazy with thoughts of what might have happened. Your spouse is in “that” mood again and you know it is going to get ugly. The credit card bills came in the mail and you don’t know how you are going to pay them. You found a lump and you are waiting for the report from the Doctor’s office. Fear can be healthy, as in, “Don’t step in front of traffic.” But fear can also be false, exaggerated, a lie. It has been the same since Adam and Eve; most of our spiritual struggles center around a truth encounter. Will we believe the lie or the truth? Fear or God? David knew the answer. He prayed to God and God answered him and freed him from all his fears. The Lord listened and saved him from all his troubles and He will save you. What is it today that you fear? What is holding you back? What keeps you from being still and knowing that He is God? Today renounce your fear. Bring it to God. Present it to Him and He will free you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my fears. I bring them to You. Help me, protect me, free me from this bondage. Thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear. I choose to live by faith in You.
AMEN
