Living As You Should

TODAY’S VERSE
And I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong.
Colossians 2:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul was writing to the church in Colossae and rejoicing that they were living as they should and that their faith in Christ was strong. Notice Paul did not say that he rejoiced because they were perfect. None of us have arrived. We live here on this earth in these bodies with these minds that are prone to sin. However, in God’s plan, He has provided a way for us to be born again and live under His Holy Spirit’s influence. Therefore today, you can believe about yourself what Paul believed of those early believers. There is no reason you cannot claim for yourself this day that you will live as you should and have a strong faith in Christ. May it be so!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Christ’s death on the cross for me. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit. Help me live as I should today and have a strong faith in You.
AMEN

Jesus Is Here

TODAY’S VERSE
They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!
Mark 6:50 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been terrified? The disciples experienced it. Mark explains, “Jesus had finished ministry for the day and He told the disciples to cross the lake. Late that night, Jesus saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost.” You see, they were terrified. But here is the good news. Jesus didn’t wait for them to ask for help; instead, He saw their predicament and spoke to them at once. He saw them in their terror and said, “Don’t be afraid.” There they were, terrified, thinking there was no out, and Jesus opened the door of hope. And why could they have that hope? Because Jesus finished by saying, “Take courage! I am here!” Jesus was there, and there was no room for fear. Today, realize this heavenly truth for yourself. Today take courage and let go of your fear; Jesus is here!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for coming to me in my storm. Thank You for telling me to take courage, for You are here. Help me be conscious of Your presence. Drive fear far from my heart. In Your name Jesus.
AMEN

Thinking The Right Way

TODAY’S VERSE
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever met a person who has a victim mentality? They always have to surround themselves with turmoil. They can’t seem to be satisfied until something is wrong, and they can go into their victim mode. Worse, some people go around as if they were cursed! How we look at circumstances and what we think about can make all the difference in how we live. Pessimism, negativity, fear, and doubt can color a bright shiny day into a grey, cloudy, overcast. If anyone could be negative, it would be Paul. The Gentiles were persecuting the church, and many legalistic Christians were spreading false teaching.
On top of that, Paul was writing this letter from prison. Yet as he sat imprisoned, he wrote about one “final thing.” He told the Philippians brothers and sisters to fix their thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. He admonished them to emulate his own life, and here is what he promised. He said if we change our thinking, the God of peace will be with us. Today let the God of all peace minister to your soul. Rebuke negativity and begin to think of those things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God of all peace, forgive me for my fear, doubt, and negativity. Help me change my thinking. Help me concentrate on those things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

True Spirituality

TODAY’S VERSE
We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are more important than others. And yet they are easy to miss. We get so busy living our life going from day to day coping when God offers us so much more. Paul knew how important it was to focus on our spiritual life, so he prayed that God would give the Colossians complete knowledge of His will. He prayed that God would give them spiritual wisdom and understanding. How often do we pray this way? Do we start our day out asking God to provide us with complete knowledge of His will? How much time do we spend trying to attain spiritual wisdom and understanding from the Lord? We should. Our spiritual life depends on it. When we do, Paul promises that the way we live will always honor and please the Lord, and our lives will produce every kind of good fruit as we learn to know God better and better. Today seek spiritual wisdom and understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask that You would, through the power of Your Holy Spirit, give me spiritual wisdom and understanding and complete knowledge of Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You Treasure?

TODAY’S VERSE
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
Philippians 3:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you treasure? Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” So if you want to know what you treasure, check your heart. What consumes you? What do you spend your time on? What do you talk about? What lights you up? Paul treasured His relationship with Christ. He wrote, “For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him.” Knowing Christ was everything to Paul. He treasured it because it had value; it offered him more than anything this world could give him. He wrote, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.” Today, the power, presence, and love of Christ are yours. How much do you treasure it?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, how much I treasure You. Consume my heart. I want to know You and experience Your resurrection power.
AMEN

True Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation.
II Thessalonians 3:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
True peace comes from God. We all long for it, but how does God give us “His peace all of the time in every situation?” Paul tells us how. He writes to the Philippians, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” If you trust in God, He will give you peace that passes all your understanding. He said it this way to the church in Rome, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him.” Today, stop being anxious; instead, trust in God. Quit worrying and pray joyfully about your situation. If you do, you will experience God’s deep, satisfying, enduring peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, God of all peace. Please fill me with Your peace today as I trust You.
AMEN

God’s Perspective

God’s Perspective

TODAY’S VERSE
You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.
Mark 8:33 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter meant well. Jesus had told His disciples about having to die, and they were shaken to the core. Peter was upset and took Jesus aside and reprimanded Him for saying He would die. Somehow, Peter did not see the significance of our Lord’s death. He did not recognize the atoning sacrifice that Jesus was prepared to make, so he reacted like any of us would when someone we love tells us they will put themselves in harm’s way. When confronted by Peter, Jesus rebuked him. He tells him, “Get away from me, Satan!” Jesus was telling Peter to get away from Him with his human point of view, influenced by Satan himself. After all, nothing would have made Satan happier than Jesus giving up His very purpose for coming. How many times have we tried to stop the plans of God for our life? How many times have we used our human logic, our human emotions, our human desires and left God entirely out of the picture? This, too, pleases the purposes of Satan. So today, focus on God’s will. Align yourself with His purposes. Listen to His word and spend time praying over your decisions. Consider your life from God’s point of view.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me resist my faulty logic and the temptations of Satan. Help me listen to You and see things from Your point of view.
AMEN

Promises

TODAY’S VERSE
I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?
Psalms 56:10-11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Promises are a blessed reality. But what if you didn’t know about them? How would you apply them to the way you live? Imagine how much fear would be averted if we remembered that He has promised never to leave us or forsake us? More than the promise is the promise maker. His promises are true because He made them. Will there be times of doubt? Probably, but that is where faith comes in. You cannot have faith without doubt. It would not be faith. We come to God with our finite humanness, weaknesses, needs, and doubts and read His promises. At that moment, we make a choice. Stay with our doubt or believe the promise maker. Today, consider your situation and say with David, “I praise the LORD for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You for Your promises. How faithful You are. How true is Your word. Help me today. I lay down my doubts and choose by faith to believe Your precious promises. I trust You, Lord, and will not be afraid. Because of Jesus.
AMEN

Maturity

TODAY’S VERSE
You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.
Hebrews 5:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Maturity is not a given; rather, it is something we must strive for. Have you ever seen an adult act like a child? It is uncomfortable to watch. It is unnatural. Yet most of us have some area that we need to “grow up” in. We may be mature when it comes to handling sadness but are immature with our anger. It could be fear that causes us to revert to childlike behavior. In today’s verse, the author of Hebrews challenges us to mature spiritually. He writes, “You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.” We don’t mature in Christ by accident. We must ingest the solid food of God’s word. Through meditating on it and praying over it, God helps us mature into the person He has called us to be. You may be old in the Lord but are you mature? Today commit your life to spiritual growth.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am Your child. Help me mature into the person You have created me to be.
AMEN

Do The Word

TODAY’S VERSE
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
James 1:22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Self-deception is so real. Denial can keep an addict in their addiction. It can keep us from living the way God wants us to. The way to overcome deception is to expose ourselves to the word of God and then do what it says. For example, James writes in this same passage, “So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.” He continues, “Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” Today, read the word, but don’t stop there, meditate on it and ask God to show you what you need to do. Be a “doer” of the word and not just a “hearer.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me when I just read Your word and ignore what it says. Help me obey what You say and live the way You want me to.
AMEN
