Strength Of My Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.
Psalms 73:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life can get hard. Sickness, financial difficulties, relational heartaches, job-related issues can all play havoc on our life. Like the Psalmist, there are those times when our health fails, and our spirit grows weak but thank God, our Lord remains constant. His love never fails. His attention toward us never ceases. His purpose for our life will be accomplished. If you let Him, God will remain the strength of your heart. Today remember, you are His, and His presence is yours forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the fact that You will never leave me or forsake me. Your love is constant. Your presence is forever. Today, be the strength of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

I Believe It’s True

TODAY’S VERSE
Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”
Luke 1:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It was hard to take in. The Angel had visited Mary and told her that she was favored among women and would give birth to the Messiah. It seemed so impossible. She was a humble young woman and a virgin, but the Angel explained that it was God’s will, and unlike her relative, Zechariah, who doubted the Angel, Mary submitted to the Lord’s will. She said, “May everything you have said about me come true.” What if we said that? What if we took God at His word when He says that we are totally forgiven, deeply loved, and His very own child? How would our life be different if we believed that nothing can separate us from His love and that He will always give us grace and mercy in our time of need? What joy would permeate our life if we believed with all our heart that we are complete in Him, that we are His workmanship created for good work, and He has given us everything we need for Godliness? Today, believe. Say with Mary, “I am Your servant God. May I believe that everything You say about me is true!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for my doubt and apathy. Help me live as Your servant, and know and believe that everything You say about me is true.
AMEN

Called To Live For God

TODAY’S VERSE
An elder must live a blameless life.
Titus 1:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul had sent Titus to appoint Elders in the different house churches. They were to lead the church. Paul wrote, “An elder is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life.” Again Paul wrote, “He must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.” But what about you? What if you are not an Elder? What if you are not a teacher? Can you live any way you want? Of course not! Paul also shares the moral responsibility of an Elder and it is safe to say that these would apply to you and I as well. He writes, “He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. – He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money. Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life.” These same behaviors apply to us. You may not be called to be an Elder but you are called to live for Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me live for You. Help me to mature and live the kind of life You have called me to. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Dare To Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope.
Lamentations 3:20-21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life takes us on many twists and turns. There are times in our life that are hard to forget. They leave deep scars in our souls. Jeremiah starts this passage with the memory of an awful time. He was grieving over his loss, but everything changed when he dared to hope. What do we dare to do? We could keep on grieving. We could stay in a state of hopeless depression. We could let bitterness and cynicism take over our life. Jeremiah dared to hope. He dared to hope because he remembered that God was in the picture. And it was what he knew about God that changed everything. He writes, “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” You see, you have a choice. You can choose what you want to remember. Do you want to remember the awful time or the faithful love and mercies of God? Today choose God. His mercies are fresh this morning.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my grief. You know my heartache. Today I bring my grief to You. Take it, Lord. I choose to hope in You again. Show me Your faithful love. Fill my heart with Your tender mercies. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Teach Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth!
Psalms 86:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When is truth not true? When it is a lie! Just because you believe something is true doesn’t mean it is! There may be many things we believe about life, ourselves, and even God that are wrong. “I am unloveable.” “God can’t forgive me.” “I am damaged goods.” “God doesn’t care about me.” “It’s no use trying.” These core beliefs come from life experiences and our immature interpretation of those events. When we use words like always and never, we make huge assumptions that leave little room for faith and grace. That is why we must be retaught. David wrote, “Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth!” Jesus said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” Paul wrote, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Why live your life believing deep-seated lies? Bring all your beliefs to God. Ask Him to teach you truth through the power of the Holy Spirit and His word.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I need to know and believe the truth. Through Your Holy Spirit and the Bible, please teach me what the truth about You, life, and myself is.
AMEN

Live Like Christ

TODAY’S VERSE
Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
I John 2:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How true is this? How often do we hear the word, “hypocrite” in association with Christians? Why? Because we follow a high standard. We claim to follow Christ so people assume we are going to live like Him. Why not? Isn’t that what Jesus expected? He said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works because I am going to be with the Father.” Isn’t that what Paul meant when he wrote to the church in Corinth, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” Peter wrote, “Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.” It is a tall order. Sure we will fail, but in humility, we confess and ask for His strength to help us to try again. The good news is He hasn’t left us empty-handed. He has given us the Bible. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Today, let us live like Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, I try to live like You, but I fall so short. I cannot do it by myself. Please help me, through the power of Your Holy Spirit and Your word, to live like You.
AMEN

More Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.”
Luke 17:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are so many gadgets. So many software programs, and if that isn’t enough, there are apps for about everything. It seems that I have all I can handle to learn the basics. I learn just enough to do what I have to do. So a when a complex problem comes along, I do not know what to do. What an embarrassment when I find out that the software or app could have solved my problem. It was there all the time, inherent in the tool, but I did not take the time to learn about it. It is that way with our faith. When some scripture or sermon challenges us to increase our faith, we think naturally focus on our faith. As if we could whip up faith through some mental state. A certain tone of voice, body posture, heightened emotion, and voila, a deeper faith. But the secret is not in the faith; it is in the object of our faith. Our faith increases as we know and experience God. As we hear the testimonies of others, as we read about the lives of faith others have lived. As we join others and begin to ask God for great and mighty things, our faith grows. It’s already there. Everything we need is in Him. Today, know Him, experience Him, believe Him. Your faith awaits.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, show me more of Yourself. I want a deeper knowledge and experience of You. Through this, I pray, increase my faith.
AMEN

Feed Yourself Spiritually

TODAY’S VERSE
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I was an intern, I had to help a child learn to eat. They could not do it themself so over and over, I would try to help them with the simplest of movements. Now that person couldn’t help themself but how sad is it when a person who can eat chooses, for complex reasons, not to do it. Paul was just as concerned with the Christians in Corinth. He wrote, “I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready.” The Psalmist says that we need to digest the word of God, hide it in our hearts if we are going to be healthy spiritually and not sin against Him. We need to feed ourselves spiritually to live the life Christ has called us to. Today, spend time with God. Feed yourself on His word. Let the Holy Spirit nourish you and give you spiritual strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to feed on Your word. Nourish my soul through the power of the Holy Spirit. Help me grow into spiritual maturity.
In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Speak To My Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”
Luke 24:32 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who do you read scriptures with? Who explains the truths to your innermost being? These men had read the scriptures before. They knew of the Messiah, but when Jesus shared with them, when He shared the truths of the word and how it applied to God’s great plan, their hearts burned within them. Isn’t that what the Apostle Paul meant when he wrote, “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand.” God wants more for us than Bible knowledge. He desires understanding. He wants to spend time with you, through the power of the Holy Spirit, and enlighten you. Today, I pray that you will spend time with Jesus. Ask Him to warm and illuminate your heart with understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come to You today for I am hungry and thirsty for understanding. I need Your instruction, Your enlightenment, Your truth to invade my heart and make me more like You. Help me as I meet with You.
AMEN

Mind Control

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.
Romans 8:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How often we feel trapped. We try and try and still give in to sinful desires. Cravings, habits, negative behavior, painful emotions have us running in circles. And then Paul comes and says we don’t have any obligation to do what our sinful nature urges us to do. What a prospect, but how? He gives the secret when he writes, “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” If you know Christ, you have the Spirit of God in you. Today, make it your obligation to follow God and ask the Holy Spirit to control your mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, control my mind today and help me think and do those things that please You.
AMEN
