A Word from god

TODAY’S VERSE

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get in the habit of reading the “word of God” without getting a “word from God.” There is a big difference. The Pharisees knew the word. Satan quoted it. But God’s word is meant for more than just reading. Paul wrote in a letter to Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Jesus said that He gave us the Holy Spirit in order to personalize His word to each of us. He said, “He will teach you everything.” The author of the Hebrews wrote, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” So when we come to the word of God, let us remember that we are coming to God and ask Him to speak to us, move in our hearts and show us His will. Today, don’t settle for the word of God; get a word from God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your wisdom. I need Your instruction. I need Your assurances. As I come to Your word, open my eyes, open my heart that I may hear Your voice, and understand what You want to say to me.
AMEN

Word and Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.
Matthew 22:29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Oops! How many times has that happened? We live under a particular assumption, do all kinds of things, only to find out that we have it all wrong! Assumptions do that. They can lead us down the wrong road. A road full of wild emotions and deep regret. Not just assumptions, misguided beliefs can also take us on the wrong journey. So it was with those who were trying to debate Jesus and trick Him into contradicting their traditions. Two things Jesus pointed out, both mistakes. One, they did not know the scriptures. They thought they did. They knew the words but not the intentions. They knew the law but not the grace. They knew the letter but not the spirit. God’s intention has always been to bring life, love, and grace to humankind. If you do not know that, you do not know the scriptures. Secondly, they did not know the power of God. They knew the stories in scriptures but not the reality. They knew about God but not the power of God. They believed in death, but not God’s power to give eternal life. Don’t make the same mistake. Today choose to believe. Get to know the reality behind every page of the scriptures. Get to know God and all the power He has for your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me get to know You. Help the scriptures come alive in my life. Help me live in the power of Your resurrection. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Convinced

TODAY’S VERSE
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.
Romans 8:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems we start out believing by nature, but soon become skeptical by practice. How many “guarantees” have you experienced as no guarantee at all? We have been lied to, taken advantage of, and let down so often we don’t know what to believe. But Paul knew one thing he was sure of. He was “convinced!” He was convinced that nothing could separate him from the love of God. How many things are you convinced of? And what a difference being that sure can make. If you were convinced that you could invest $10,000 in stock and get back $1,000,000, how long would it take you to get the $10,000? Paul had that same attitude toward the love of God. He was convinced that he could invest in God’s love that will never leave him and get back a peace that passes all understanding; God’s constant provision, the fruit of the Spirit, and eternal life. Today become convinced. God loves you, and nothing will ever separate you from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I believe, help my unbelief. I want to be convinced of Your love. Speak to my heart, move me, help me understand how trustworthy You are and how spectacular Your love is for me.
AMEN

Search Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The truth will set us free. Free from bondage, free from negative thinking, free from poor choices. But the truth can be elusive. This is why we must call upon the Lord to help us be honest with ourselves. David did this. He asked God to search the deepest parts of his mind and heart and point out any offensive ways in him. Jeremiah in Lamentations encourages us to, “examine our ways and test them.” And when we ask God for help we can rest assured that He has our best in mind. His purpose isn’t to fail us, embarrass us, or send us back a grade. His desire is to encourage and motivate us, moving us toward maturity. What better way to mature than coming before God, examining our progress, and letting Him coach us through the power of His Word and the Holy Spirit. Today, let God examine your heart. Seek His direction and let Him lead your way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, search me and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
AMEN

Thinking

TODAY’S VERSE
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“What were you thinking?” Have you ever had anyone ask you that? Usually, it’s after something goes wrong. There was a misjudgment, and your thinking has been brought into question. But Paul is suggesting something different. He says we should be purposeful before we think and watch what we let dominate our minds. Paul indicates that it is either the Spirit of God or our sinful nature. What a world of difference the two mindsets have on our life. The mind dominated by the sinful nature leads to sinful thinking and behavior. The mind controlled by the Spirit of God leads us to do things that please the Spirit. Today, say “No” to the sinful nature with its temptation and lust. Instead, be controlled by the Holy Spirit
.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to live my life for You. Let Your Holy Spirit control my thinking. I give You my mind; guide me, direct me, lead me into Your will.
AMEN

Sufficient

TODAY’S VERSE
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
II Corinthians 12:8-9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I don’t understand suffering. Pain, heartache, sadness seem so antithetical to the love, joy, and peace that we claim is the Christian experience. I don’t understand why our first and only stop isn’t Heaven instead of earth. But here we are, and in this world, we do have tribulation. All of us have crosses to bear. In his book, “Desiring God’s Will,” Dr. Benner writes, “We experience good and bad in our childhood. But Jesus’ invitation is to accept the givens of our lives and follow Him. We experience love and betrayal in our marriages and friendships. But Jesus’ invitation remains the same, to accept the givens and follow Him. – We want to either fight against the suffering or ignore it. What Jesus asks is something quite different. – We can choose to acknowledge the suffering rather than ignore it. And while holding it, we can choose to look toward God. If we do, we discover God looking toward us.” The mystery in all of this is God’s grace. Grace stands between us and our pain. It is the salve for our breaking heart. It is the presence of God amid our darkness. It is the strength in our weakness. God promises it will be sufficient. He promises. Today, don’t turn away. Quit running. Lay down your burden and follow Christ. He is sufficient.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You. Only You can be my strength. Only You can give me the grace I need. I look to You, dear God, for You promised, Your grace will be sufficient.
AMEN

Word And Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.”
Mark 12:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some mistakes are more critical than others. Jesus pointed out the worst. And sadly, we are often guilty of making it! There aren’t any two things more relevant to the way we should live than knowledge of the Scriptures and experiencing God’s power. Yet how many days do we live without the influence of either? Paul tells us, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” If this is true, why would we live day after day without it? And God’s power? Why would we deny ourselves of such an incredible reality? Jesus was attacking the religious attitudes of the Pharisees. They wanted to argue doctrine, law, and pretense. But Jesus didn’t see rules and rituals; He saw God’s word and power. The author of Hebrews writes, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” Jesus said, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.” Today may God help us to truly know both.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me everything I need for a Godly life through Your divine power and promises. Help me to know more about your word and power I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Word

TODAY’S VERSE
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Insight, inspiration, hope, wisdom, confidence, direction, correction all this and more is found in God’s word. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to take the scriptures and make them relevant to our life. The Psalmist experienced this living word and knew if He would learn it, meditate on it and let it affect who he was, that it would result in the kind of behavior that was pleasing to God. Today, we can have the same experience. Spend time in God’s word. Meditate on it. Listen to what God has to say and let His word sink deep into your heart. If you do, you will be able to say with the Psalmist, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, as I read Your word, help it sink deep into my heart. Help me hear You and understand how You want me to live. Inspire me, guide me, and empower me by Your word I pray.
AMEN

But God

TODAY’S VERSE
We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside. But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us.
II Corinthians 7:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Two words. Two words that can turn everything around. Two words that make all the difference in the world. Two words, that are available to us at any time. Paul is beside himself so he writes, “We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.” He paints a bleak picture, with seemingly no hope, and then he writes two words, “but God.” All would have been lost, “but God.” There would have been no hope, “but God.” There is nothing that could be done, “but God.” It was God. The God who encourages those who are discouraged encouraged him. And He will do the same for us. Today, let God be the difference. Let God give you all the encouragement you need. Let God be God in your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, you know all about me. You are the one that makes all the difference in my life. Thank You for being the God of all encouragement. Encourage my heart today.
AMEN

Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.
Ephesians 1:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Spiritual wisdom and insight. It is perhaps the most essential trait we could ask God for. It was so important that Paul constantly prayed that God would give it to the church. When God asked Solomon to ask for anything he wanted, Solomon asked for wisdom to rule the people. God was happy with this decision and gave Solomon “a wise and understanding heart.” We need no less. Every day we face circumstances and make decisions. How often have we relied on our understanding instead of seeking God and the wisdom that He has? James tells us that if we lack wisdom, all we need to do is ask God. David tells us not to lean on our own understanding but seek God, and He will direct us. Today, ask God for wisdom. Ask Him for insight and understanding. Seek Him, talk to Him, listen to Him, and He will give you all the wisdom you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You asking for Your wisdom and insight. Guide me, direct me, give me all the wisdom I need to make it through this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
