Seek Him First

TODAY’S VERSE
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (NASB)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s easy for us to assume what God’s will is instead of asking Him for it. The truth is that God’s ways are not always our ways. Jesus said to seek His kingdom and righteousness before anything else. So if we want to live out God’s will in our life, then we must seek God first. A quarterback has the same goal as his coach. They both want to win the game. But the Coach is better versed in the game. He has more experience and a more comprehensive view of the whole game. If the quarterback is going to do his best, he needs to work in harmony with the coach. How much more should we align our behavior and attitudes with God Almighty? A hurtful situation, a wayward son, a sudden illness, a loss of a job. Life has many twists and turns. When they come, stop and seek God. Let Him know your thoughts, your apprehensions, your fears, and frustrations. Come to Him, seek Him first and He will direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I do “my own thing” so many times. I do not take the time to know your will. I just assume that what I am doing is the “right” thing. Forgive me. Help me to stop when I am tempted to run in a certain direction. Help me to seek You first.
AMEN

What Do You Believe About God?

TODAY’S VERSE
And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What we believe about God makes a difference. Is He an overbearing parent, never pleased with us? Is he our celestial Genie whose purpose is to give us our wishes on command? Is he a senile old man, unable to really comprehend what we are thinking or doing? Is He sadistic, getting pleasure from making our lives miserable? Perhaps a mad scientist that started this experiment but has lost control, not able to influence any desirable outcome? If we are really honest with ourselves, we will see a little bit of our own beliefs in these scenarios. The author of Hebrews says if we want to please God, then we must believe that He is the God of the Bible, not something that we made up. Not some misconceptions that we bring with us from childhood. He is the God who created the world and loves us with a never-ending love. He is the God that rewards those that earnestly seek Him. Start to seek Him today. Study the Bible, pray, meditate on His goodness. He is the God who desires to be known.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I confess I do not really know You as I should. I haven’t spent the time it takes. I haven’t shared my real heart with You. I haven’t waited long enough to hear Your voice. Forgive me. Please reveal Yourself to me through Your word and in my prayers. Today I commit myself to know You more.
AMEN

A Solid Foundation

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
Matthew 7:24-25

TODAY’S MESSAGE
It matters what you build your life on. Both Jesus and Paul agreed you need to build your life on the truth of the Bible. Not just knowing the truth but living the truth. Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them in practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Paul wrote that we should be a “workman that does not need to be ashamed, who correctly handles the word of truth.” If we want our life on the firm ground, then we need to be grounded in His word. We need to read the Bible, study it and then apply it to our life. We need to live what we read. When we do, we will find that life will stand the tests of time.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I want to live my life on solid ground. I want to be able to stand firm when I go through hard times. Help me to read Your word and understand its meaning. Help me to live what You tell me to do. I want to be a workman that does not need to be ashamed, who correctly handles Your word of truth! In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
