More

TODAY’S VERSE
May God give you more and more grace and peace.
I Peter 1:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wanted more of something? The pizza was so good, just one more piece. The alarm goes off, and you think just 15 more minutes. You fall in love, and want to spend more time with that special person. More is a natural response. And yet, for some of us as children, we heard, “Don’t ask.” “Quit begging.” “Don’t bother me.” “That’s enough.” So deep down, the thought of more is perceived as being greedy, selfish, or inappropriate. True, more of some things is not good for you. Gluttony, addictions, lust are forms of “more” out of control. But when it comes to spiritual things, our Father wants us to have more. Paul wanted us to know the love of God more and more. Peter is writing in today’s verse that God wants to give us more and more of His grace and peace. So how do you get more? What were we taught? You have to ask for it. Today, ask God to give you more. More love, more grace, more peace, and more awareness of Himself. You can ask for more of these; He wants you to have them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I just don’t need more; I want more. More awareness of Your love, grace, peace, and joy in my life. I want more, Lord! I ask in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hope For The New Year

TODAY’S VERSE
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hope is a powerful word. I have often thought of it as an emotion, as in, “I am hopeful.” While hope can generate a positive emotion, it is much more than that. Dr. Brene Brown, in her book, “The Gifts Of Imperfection,” writes about being resilient. She said that one of the critical ingredients in resilience is spirituality. Our belief in God and that He has plans for us gives us hope. We are not alone. But then Dr. Brown says that hope is also an action. She lists three ingredients. Hope is: having a goal, knowing how to reach it, and believing you can. This is where faith comes in. We believe God has plans for us and we move forward seeking to live for Him. Today, ask God to give you hope. It is the beginning of a new year. Move ahead in faith and know that all things are possible with God. He loves you; He is with you, you are part of His great plan.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you that you have good plans for me. Help me to move into this new year with faith and hope.
AMEN

Do Right

TODAY’S VERSE
So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.
I Peter 4:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes there is a price for doing the right thing. But there is always a reward. It may not be the kind of reward we were looking for. Materialism is so addictive. We judge our value by our accomplishments, net worth, and how many toys we have. However, with all that can come Godless attitudes of self-sufficiency and pride. So we decided instead to follow Christ. Peter explains, “You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.” As a follower of Christ, the good you decide to do may be countercultural to where you work or those that you associate with. Peter says that this could result in people slandering you. You could suffer because of it. That may be the price you will pay, but Peter also explains the reward. He writes, “So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.” He will never fail you. He will never fail you! Keep on doing what is right.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me keep on doing right because I know it pleases You. Thank You that You promised You will never leave me or forsake. You will not fail me.
AMEN

Thank You Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning.
Psalms 92:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Mornings are mornings. Some of us get up, ready to go. Others are in a fog for a few moments. Many of us are in a hurry. Life with all its demands begins to squeeze us as soon as we hit the floor. It is easy to skip any time with God and head out the door. Or, if we do try to get something spiritually, it may be a devotional or a scripture. But where is the relationship in that? We are a friend of God! Jesus said, “I have called you friend.” What kind of friendship does not relate to each other? What sort of friendship does not care for the person, admire them, treasure their friendship, and show love and respect? Perhaps that is why the Psalmist said to God, “It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning.” Don’t just run off in the morning. Don’t just read about God. Don’t just dictate out some prayers. Talk to Him. Love Him and let Him know how much you care about Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I thank You for Your unfailing love! How great You are. I come and say, “Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for Your love for me.”
AMEN

Sphere Of Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
II Peter 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter admonishes us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The word translated as “grace” in the New Testament means “favor, blessing, or kindness.” Peter suggests that we are to grow and mature in our experience of this grace. Interestingly, “in” usually means “passing through a door” as if you are going from one room to another. But this word that Peter uses for “in” is special. It means “to enter a new sphere of reality.” So in coming to God we have passed into a different sphere of existence, a new atmosphere of God’s favor, blessing, and kindness! Today, open your eyes to this new reality. You are living in the sphere of God’s grace and His unconditional love. Go and grow and mature in it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me understand what it means to live in this sphere of grace you have invited me into. Help me grow in your grace and knowledge.
AMEN

Father

TODAY’S VERSE
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!
I John 3:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the confidence in this verse. There is no doubt about God being our Father. God chose man and woman to procreate. He allowed what He considers precious to be brought into this world through parents. But make no mistake. Before you were procreated, you were created by God as an object of His love. So no matter who your caregivers are, God too is standing by, ready to re-parent you. He is your real Father. Today He calls you His child and wants you to know that you are loved, cherished, and deeply favored. He calls you His child and that you are!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for calling me Your child. Help me know the depths of Your love for me. Help me understand what it means to call You Father.
AMEN

Praise and Remembrance

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.
Psalms 103:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many things that we get excited about and praise. We can remember a championship that happened decades ago and praise the team. We get emotional and praise the remembrance of a concert we attended as a teenager. We can get excited about a movie and tell everyone, praising the production. But how much do we sincerely praise God? David writes, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” David could write this because he experienced God. He knew Him. He spent time in God’s presence and depended upon Him time and time again for His protection and guidance. David was called “A man after God’s own heart.” Oh, that I would be like David. That I would raise my awareness of God all around me. That I would trust Him in all things. That I would read and meditate on His word. Then and only then, I would experience God in a way that would be unforgettable. Then I would begin to praise God. This is my heart’s desire. Is it yours?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for my pitiful praise. Forgive me for my spiritual amnesia. How I long to be like David. I want to be a person that experiences you in a real and vital way. Come, Lord, fill my heart with praise and my mind with remembrance. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

You Have A Crown

TODAY’S VERSE
He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
Psalms 103:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In a perfect world, you would have been loved deeply. There would be no question of your value, significance and worth. But we don’t live in a perfect world. Somewhere our meaning got lost in the translation. But God’s desire is for you to know the truth of who you are to Him. David writes, “The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.” God the Father comes to you today and has a crown for you. A crown of meaning, a crown of royalty for you are a child of God! He crowns you with a crown made with love and tender mercies. Run, doubt run. Flee fear. Be gone shame. Vanquish all lies that stand against the declaration that you are deeply loved. The King has come, and He has crowned you His beloved. The Father has lavished you with His compassion. Rise and walk in the truth, for you wear a crown!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the crown You have placed upon my head. A crown of Your love and tender mercies. I humbly receive this gift and will wear it with gratitude and humility and profound thankfulness. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Delights In You

TODAY’S VERSE
No, the LORD’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Psalms 147:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What does God delight in? He delights in you! When my boys were born and started growing up, it was apparent that they were human. They had all the traits, quirks, and characteristics that any average child would have. But what delight they gave me. There was no surprise. I knew what to expect in a child. I knew their tendencies, accepted their idiosyncrasies, and loved them. They gave me happiness. How much more God takes pleasure in you. He knows exactly who He created. You are no surprise to Him. He knows all about you and delights in you. And He appreciates when you know Him, trust and hope in Him. He is your Father and delights in you. Today, delight in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that I am Your delight. Help me today to delight in You.
AMEN

God’s Perfect Love

TODAY’S VERSE
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
I John 4:18 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear is hard to conquer. It puts us on high alert, and all of our focus is zeroed in on the object of our fear. Our stomach flitters, our blood pressure rises, we can feel the panic. Even when the alarm stops we obsess. It takes us, prisoner. What can we do? How do we find relief? We find it in His love. Not just any love, it is God’s perfect love. When you switch your focus from fear to His love for you, fear loses its power. Why? Because His love for you is relentless, unquenchable, unstoppable, never failing, never-ending and immeasurable. It is tender, full of mercy and kindness. It is forgiving and understanding. It is unconditional. He is the one who we run to, and our worries dissipate. Today, when fear comes, switch your focus. Turn from fear to God’s love. His love for You will cast out your fear.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love. It never fails, so today, help me turn to it again and again. Every time fear comes, Lord, help me focus on You and Your perfect love for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
