Good Things

TODAY’S VERSE
You have done many good things for me, LORD, just as you promised.
Psalms 119:65 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many good things has God done for us? Is it possible that we haven’t noticed? Could we be like spoiled children who are raised in affluence and take everything for granted? True, children may know nothing about the dollar’s value, but how tragic if we don’t know anything about God’s goodness toward us. During the day, are you consciously aware of God’s kindness, grace, forgiveness, and mercy toward you? Do you recognize His provision? Your health, shelter, safety, the very air you breathe; are gifts from God. Are you conscious of His presence? Today, STOP and consider all the many good things God has done for you and thank Him. He is worthy of all your praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for all the many good things You have done for me, just as you promised.
AMEN

God’s Kindness

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you?
Romans 2:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Can you imagine if God dealt with us according to our behavior? Who would stand a chance? And yet, so many use the wrath of God to motivate us into submission and obedience. Fear works, but it doesn’t produce the kind of response God is looking for. He created us to be objects of His love and grace. So Paul asks a very specific question. He asks, “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you?” Paul was disturbed, wondering, how could anyone know the mercy and grace of God and not be motivated to live for Him? Paul continues with another question, “Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?” It is His grace, His kindness, His tolerance, and patience that motivates us to turn from our sin and follow Him. Today, take time to notice. Take time to consider how kind and patient God has been toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for not focusing on how kind, tolerant, and patient You have been with me. Help me, Lord, understand Your great kindness toward me so I can turn from my sin and follow You.
AMEN

Harvest Of Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.
Psalms 126:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Having hope doesn’t mean we don’t feel emotion. It doesn’t mean things are going to follow our timetable. Life is hard. Bad things happen, but God is still on His throne. I can’t imagine how it must have been to be a Jew when Jerusalem fell to its enemies. To be taken captive and become a slave in a foreign land would be overwhelming. Generations would come and go, and yet no answer from God. Finally, the city was rebuilt, and the Jews began to return to their city once again. The Psalmist wrote, “When the LORD brought back his exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy.” Their hope that was planted with tears returned in a glorious harvest of joy. I know it can seem hard to believe that when everything around us seems to be in ruins, we will ever have joy again. But the mystery is this. As we plant seeds of hope, faith, and perseverance, even if our circumstances don’t change, we do. God promises we will produce a harvest of joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for all the seeds of hope You have helped me plant. I know there will be a harvest with shouts of joy. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Plans

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever.
Psalms 138:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
One of the all-time favorite passages in the scriptures was written by Jeremiah. It has brought comfort to millions upon millions of people over the centuries. Jeremiah wrote, ‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”’ We love to think of God taking a personal interest in our life and directing us along a plan that He has for us. Today’s verse is a reminder of that truth. David wrote that the Lord would work the plans that He had for David’s life. Why? Because God’s plans come out of His great love for us and David had concluded that God’s faithful love toward him, would never cease. God’s has loving plans for you. And His plans will endure any calamity, any seemingly human mistakes, and any personal hardships. God’s love for you will endure forever. Today, put your trust in God. He has plans for you now on this earth and forever in the next.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for your faithful love for me. I trust You to work Your Your plans for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Thankfulness

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a difference between appreciation and thankfulness. When we appreciate something, it gives us a good feeling. Whereas appreciation is an inward expression of gratitude, thankfulness is an outward expression. It is relational. You show gratitude and give thanks to what has caused your appreciation. Giving thanks opens your heart toward a deeper relationship. It is that way with God. Paul wrote that we shouldn’t worry about anything but let worry be a cue to pray about everything instead. We do this by telling God what we need and expressing thankfulness to Him for all He has done. Paul writes that the result of this gratitude toward God is the ability to experience God’s peace in ways we cannot even imagine. This peace guards our emotions and our thinking as we live out our relationship with Him. So today, show God gratitude. Be thankful and delight in Him. Make it a habit, and it will change your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for all You have done for me. I am deeply grateful and full of appreciation for Your wondrous love for me. Fill me with Your peace and protect my heart and my mind. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Hears

TODAY’S VERSE
Come quickly, LORD, and answer me, for my depression deepens.
Don’t turn away from me, or I will die.
Psalms 143:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How I thank God for David’s honesty. When I went through a dark season in my life, the Psalms were an oasis for my soul.
I would come to today’s verse and feel a deep assurance that God knew exactly how I felt. Why? Because He understood David’s plea. David cried out to God in his depression and requested, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.” It was this deep trust in God that led him to the assurance that he would be delivered. David finishes the Psalm by writing, “May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. For the glory of your name, O LORD, preserve my life. Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.” Today, come to God with your deepest concerns, with your heavy heart, and walk away like David with the full assurance that God has heard your cries and will lead you forward.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You today knowing that You hear my concerns, that You care for me, and I can trust You. Thank You for Your love.
AMEN

Bring Your Concerns To God

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.
Psalms 5:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a wonderful relationship God is offering us. David knew about it. He writes, “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” He brought God His groaning, his deepest concerns, the cries from the bottom of his heart. Paul picks up on this same theme and writes, “The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Today, bring your concerns to God. Pray and share your heart with Him. He knows you. He loves you. He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love and concern for me. Thank You for hearing my prayers and helping me with all my needs. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Enter In

TODAY’S VERSE
Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.
Psalms 5:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who could ever earn God’s love? We would like to think we could. We have some sort of built-in “goodness” scale that records good and bad behavior, and somehow we think we are way ahead. But seriously, a finite person able to stand in the presence of a Holy infinite God? It is something only God could do. It would have to be His deliberate choice to make a way we could be in fellowship with Him. And that is what He did. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are saved and are in fellowship with Him. The Apostle Paul wrote it this way, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” So today, because of His unfailing love, enter into His presence and worship Him with the deepest awe.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Almighty God. Thank You for providing a way that I can enter Your presence as Your child and worship and love You.
AMEN

Return To Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalms 94:19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of Christ, we have a choice. We can return to joy from painful emotions. The Psalmist knew this. When he was overwhelmed with anxiety, it was the consolation and comfort of the Lord that brought him back to a place of joy. The choice was to believe that God’s love toward us is unconditional. To believe that He alone can and will give us the peace that passes all our understanding. To believe that the Holy Spirit is indeed the comforter and He will sustain us. Today, allow His presence to console you. Allow Him to quiet your anxious heart and return you to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You know my heart. You know how I am. I bring all my anxiety to You. Console me I pray. Return me to joy. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Thankful

TODAY’S VERSE
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5:18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often, we forget how gracious God is. We forget all the good in our life. Like spoiled children, we take so many things for granted. Worse we tend to complain to God when things aren’t going our way. God abhors complaining. Paul knew this, so instead of complaining, Paul encourages us to be thankful. How different would your life be if you began to thank God in all things? What if you began to praise Him for His love, power, wisdom, majesty, and grace toward you no matter what the circumstance? What type of relationship do you think you would develop with Him? What kind of spirituality would you develop? Today begin to thank God in all things. It will change your life. Out of praise will come contentment, peace of mind, faith, and hope. This is God’s will for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for complaining. Forgive me for my lack of faith. Today I come to thank You. Might Your praise be continuously on my lips, my Lord and my God.
AMEN
